Son had major relapse. Back in hospital, but they sent him to another hospital that doesn’t treat his condition. In this one he feels unsafe because of fighting between patients and even staff; also patients try and steal things from roommates. He is not at all a violent person or a substance abuse person. Why they keep doing this, I don’t know (other than the critical bed shortage, but even that doesn’t explain it fully).Trying to get him into an appropriate facility. It’s a long and arduous process, with no definite endpoints, if you will.
So sorry about that Joshua. Can’t his doctor intervene on your son’s behalf getting him into a proper facility?
Joshua I am terribly sorry. If you need any help, advocating, please reach out. I can make phone calls, etc. Mac’s Dana and Brigham doctors tried to convince me to become an advocate so I am familiar with much of the processes.
RSV cases in children are now overwhelming hospitals throughout. Up until now, I never heard of it even though it is not a new virus or anything.
Is it possible I had it as a kid? I certainly had my share of colds and flu at one time or another in my much younger days,
Like most other common viruses, with mask wearing, RSV cases were much lower. It only appears worse now with the relaxation of masks. I highly doubt RSV cases are worse now than pre-COVID. With that said, it’s still nasty. I’m curious how it’s diagnosed now. I remember both my kids getting it when they were around 1 but the pediatrician diagnosed solely by symptoms and a physical exam. Most of the time, a severe longer duration cold was presumed to be RSV
Unfortunately, my son is stuck where he is. And perhaps for a very long time. He’s more miserable than ever and detests where he is (the last place he was in wasn’t great, but he didn’t hate it and actually liked some of the staff).
There are no lateral transfers in our peculiar mental healthcare system. Been on the phone for 2 days straight now, talking to all the key decision-makers at multiple hospitals. I do have advocates – in my family; some of whom are doctors – but there’s no budging on the part of the hospital(s).
In any case, I’m a basket case. Can’t sleep. Can’t eat (losing weight quite rapidly – stress will do that, at least to me; I have zero appetite). Can’t work.
It’s disheartening how much our health care (mental health & physical health) system is broken. I sincerely hope improvements are ahead but more importantly I hope something changes to the positive in this situation extremely soon. Continued best wishes.
