Monday November 7 2022 Forecast (7:32AM)

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 7-11)

Summer ends today. Oops. I mean the feel of summer in November ends today. Our warm spell comes to an end after one more day of well above normal temperatures to start the week. A cold front is moving across the region as I write this discussion shortly after sunrise, accompanied by lots of clouds, though a nice sunrise was seen in some eastern areas, including a morning rainbow here at Woods Hill as rain showers approached from the west. This front crosses the region by midday with its briefly unsettled weather, then exits the region, but we’ll have already warmed nicely, and the much cooler air lags the frontal boundary by several hours, so we get the bonus warmth today before we feel the chill set in tonight on a gusty breeze. Canadian high pressure then brings us dry and seasonably chilly weather for Tuesday and Wednesday, a gusty breeze Tuesday with the high center still to the north, and lighter wind Wednesday as the high center comes right over the region. By Thursday and Friday, the high shifts offshore and we see a moderation in temperature, with fair weather through Thursday. But on Friday – Veterans Day – we will see an increase in cloudiness ahead of both an approaching trough from the west and low pressure from the south. The latter is currently Subtropical Storm Nicole to the east of the Bahamas. Nicole is expected to meander generally westward, passing through the northern Bahamas Wednesday and reaching Florida Thursday, before turning northward and moving across the Southeast States and likely off the East Coast, approaching our region by late Friday just as a trough starts to move in from the west. As it stands now, I’m reasonably confident that we’ll see dry weather through the daylight hours of Friday, including for any Veterans Day ceremonies / parades. It is late in the day and especially at night when we’re likely to see the wet weather arrive from these approaching systems…

TODAY: Clouds and rain showers cross the region from west to east morning. Sun returns west to east late morning through afternoon. Highs 70-77. Dew point 60+ falls through 50s later. Wind SW 5-15 MPH, gusts 20-25 MPH, shifting to NW from west to east.

TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 38-45. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

TUESDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 50-57. Wind NW to N 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 30-37. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Sunny. Highs 48-55. Wind NE up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 32-39. Wind SE under 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 57-64. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 43-50. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Increasing clouds. Showers likely by end-of-day, rain at night. Highs 59-66. Wind S 5-15 MPH becoming variable and gusty at night.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 12-16)

Stormy start to weekend as low pressure passes by November 12, then exits with dry, windy, cool weather for the November 13. Overall theme into next week is dry with below normal temperatures.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 17-21)

Unsettled weather is most likely early in the period with passing low pressure, then a return to mostly dry weather and below normal temperatures as we’ll be in a new weather pattern which will have shifted the warmth out and the November chill in.

  1. I’m all about the November chill in the extended forecast. Our A/C kicked on Saturday night and then again last night…

    1. Agreed. It was 69 here at 4 am. But this seems to be more common. Mid November 2021 and 2020 we saw the same. I didn’t go back further. But one of my favorite memories was in 2015 when we had a stretch of warm weather this very week. Folks here were understandably wishing for cooler weather. Mac had just come home in hospice and I mentioned for once I didn’t mind the warmth. We were able to put a cushioned chair outside doe Mac to sit in the sun

Tom….and I cry every time I think of it,,,,,commented then we will all hope for the warm weather to continue. I’m paraphrasing but it is one of those moments that touched us all very deeply. ❤️

      1. We are looking for a list of some names of our military so we can send holiday cards. I can find places to send a number of cards and they will distribute. I can’t find specific names and there may be a good reason for that. But if anyone has ideas, I’d sure appreciate it.

  2. Record late spring cold in the southern hemisphere rolls on. Especially South America.

Southern Brazil has seen its first November snow in over 120 years.

I theorize Tonga is playing a roll.

  3. Thank you, TK.

I’ve been absent for a while. I hope to be a regular again soon.

Things are stabilizing slowly on the home front. I thank you all for your kind words and best wishes. This means a lot.

The weather is weirdly humid for November. Not unprecedented. I don’t want to sensationalize. Yet, it does feel strange.

      1. Good to hear from you Joshua. Glad things are improving at home. The C-19 blog is still alive as well so feel free to post over there as well when you feel up to it! No rush.

    1. Sure brightened my day to see your name here. Wonderful news, Joshua, and prayers that your son’s progress continues.

  4. Love the warmth but my kids weren’t happy last night with the bedroom temps. They were asking me to put the AC’s in, I said I am the biggest baby but that’s not happening. Lol

  5. DP’s were the issue. We have a Cape and the upstairs gets so warm. Now the DP’s are lowering a fan in the window will take care of it.

  6. Thank you for checking in Joshua .. glad to hear some positive news! Hoping this continues! Best wishes!

Just got back from a wonderful walk in the woods. 🙂

      1. This year I am allowing some Christmas music into my listening line-up before Thanksgiving as well. Not too much, but some. And like you, mainly instrumental. There are SO many instrumental collections on Spotify it’s hard to decide which ones to listen to. 😉

  7. JPD .. regarding the volcano. It’s hard to say what impacts it may have in the N HEM, but I suspect it will have some (though not as impactful as S HEM).

  8. We may very well salvage the 2nd half of Saturday dry. I think things are going to be hauling.

  9. Vicki, I saw your post from earlier today. Are you looking for local veterans in your town? If so you can go to your local veterans office of your town. Every city and town in Massachusetts is mandated to have a town office. You can speak with the rep and he most likely will share a list of names and addresses for you. My son and I did this 2 years ago for a Boy Scout project and had a wonderful time meeting folks. He made gift bags from donated items he raised and handed them out. Including $50 Market Basket gift cards! We still send holiday cards here and there to some WW2 vets here in Andover. It means the world to them.

      1. Thanks! There are so many great things your local town office do for veterans. This year his scout troop is planning on attending the Veterans holiday dinner in uniform. Older Veterans eyes light up when they see scouts come to there events. It also gives young kids a chance to talk face to face with real heroes of there community.

    1. Diamond. I cannot thank you enough. I am not sure how to find the local veterans office but planned to call the Dudley Gendron in Sutton tomorrow and I’m sure they will know.

I have goosebumps. I truly am thankful for your post !!!

      1. There should be something on your town website. Normally the office is with the town hall or town offices. Let me know how things go and if I can help at all. As a veteran, and retired USAF, I thank you for this!!

          1. Awesome! Oh, and one thing. Earlier when I said “real heroes” I meant that as real community heroes instead of sports stars, etc. I certainly don’t want to discount other community heroes such as police, fire, school teachers. All heroes in my eyes!

  10. Diamond, thank you for your service and all veterans.
As a teacher, thanks for your kind words, but you and all veterans are the true heroes.

I am the PA announcer at the Middleborough High School football games. Before introducing the student singer of the national anthem, I always ask the fans for a round of applause and acknowledgement of all of our vets, active military, first responders and health care workers.

  11. In addition to the holiday beverages and cups at our local coffee shops, WSRS (96.1) went all holiday music last Friday afternoon at 5 pm.

It’s quite strange listening to “Let It Snow” when your car thermometer reads 77º!!! 🙂

    1. As you know my indoor decorations are going up. Maybe outside this weekend but not turns on yet. Even with that, I prefer to wait until after thanksgiving for the songs. That said…..I could hum along with a let it snow instrumental…..I’be been known to sing it on the hottest summer days !!

  12. Thanks TK and Joshua, glad to hear things are going better for your son.

It was an incredible 80F today in New Haven and 79F in Bridgeport. That 79 broke the all-time November high temperature in Bridgeport.

And to think 10 years ago today many of us were shoveling snow as an early season Nor’easter barreled up the coast just one week after Sandy. This was the start of what would be a 100″ snow season for me in the Winter of 2012-2013.

  13. Well that was an interesting 18z GFS run.

If it materializes, 2-5″ of rain in SNE this Friday-Saturday from the remnants of Nicole and a coastal storm next Wednesday 11/16 delivering 6″+ of snow across interior areas.

  14. Best start to the winter in years across the West.

Solitude Resort in Utah has already received 55″ of snow on the season and the Wasatch Range is under a WSW for another 1-2 feet of snow tomorrow through Thursday AM. Solitude is opening for operations on Friday which will be their earliest opening date since 2013. Utah’s statewide snowpack was at 384% of normal for the season as of Friday. This is a common theme throughout the West right now.
