DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 20-24)
One month after the vernal equinox, as we enter “mid spring”, we find ourselves in a typical springtime pattern with a variety of weather coming. Today, a narrow high pressure ridge slides across the region as an upper trough departs, providing fair weather, less wind, milder air after a chilly start, and eventually less cloudiness than we saw during the last few days. The high center shifts north a bit to near the Gulf of Maine on Friday which allows it to stay mild inland but cools the coast more prominently, setting up a larger temperature contrast from coast to inland then we will see today, but it will continue fair with plenty of sun. A warm front will approach the region Friday night into Saturday with an increase in first high and mid level clouds, though some sun is still possible Saturday for a time before the clouds thicken. Eventually this leads to an episode of warm frontal rainfall Saturday evening or night, and then a ribbon of showers/rain in the region on Sunday as a cold front approaches but slows. This is going to be in response to a slowing of movement of features in the atmosphere and the beginning of the evolution of a closed low pressure area, which will hold cloudy, wet, but cooler weather in the region Monday.
TODAY: Intervals of clouds especially eastern areas early and southern areas later, but also some sunshine. Highs 63-70 except 55-62 immediate coast. Wind W to variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes developing.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy evening. Clear overnight. Lows 42-49 coastal areas, 35-42 inland, coldest in valley locations. Wind variable under 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs ranging from 53-60 coast to 60-67 just inland to 67-74 further inland. Wind variable becoming E 5-15 MPH, strongest coast.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 50-57. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Highs 55-62 South Coast / Cape Cod, 62-69 elsewhere. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain. Lows 50-57. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Cloudy. Showers likely. Highs 57-64. Wind SE 10-20 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Areas of fog and drizzle. Chance of showers. Lows 48-55. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Cloudy. Periods of light rain and drizzle. Areas of fog. Temperatures steady 48-55. Wind E-NE 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 25-29)
Continued uncertainty but leaning toward an unsettled/cool start to this period with low pressure lingering, and a drier/milder end as high pressure returns.
DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 30 – MAY 4)
Unsettled/cool weather returns for at least a few days during this period – timing to be worked out.
Good morning and thank you TK

Julie, I seem to think you are not far from Mac’s brother in Moraga. Our niece is in Walnut Creek. Did you feel any shaking from the 3.7 in Antioch? I have not read more since I saw this late last night. Hope all is ok.
Not far compared to our mutual distance to New England, but still about an hour away. Didn’t feel that one- at that level I’d expect localized shaking but unlikely significant damage or injuries. Different fault line from the one closest to me. Then again, there was a much closer earthquake to me a few weeks ago that lots of people near me felt and I didn’t, so maybe I’m just oblivious! 🙂
Ahhhh makes sense. Have not called my BIL but the same may apply to him. Thank you.
Ευχαριστώ,TK. [it’s all Greek to me]
These letters look familiar 🙂 🙂 🙂
He’s speaking old salty 😉
🙂
Thanks TK
Thanks TK.
I feel very badly for the engineers who worked so diligently on the SpaceX rocket. It exploded after launch.
I don’t know why, however, the explosion was described by the SpaceX team in such euphemistic terms: “Rapid unscheduled disassembly.”
I have seen it described as a “Starship”. Is this rocket supposed to mimic the Star Trek tv series in terms of far distance space travel? Good that there were no passengers.
I think that this was quite an accomplishment. The rocket made it to at least 39 kilometers, past the so called max q or maximum dynamic pressure condition
I doubt that many employees are really surprised or disappointment. My son and I have been following the exploits of SpaceX from early on. They have a strategy of testing early and publicly. This type of experimental launch is the only way to get so much valuable data.
I don’t know for sure, but it is likely that the explosion you saw was a result of the Flight Termination System (FTS) safely aborting the flight in a controlled manner over a safe zone on the earth. If that is the case, they were able to hold off on the termination for quite some time after the event that caused the instability. This is good for data retrieval and the next steps.
It is an iterative process and I applaud the entire team.
Make that “surprised or disappointed”.
Thanks for filling me in on this. I stand corrected.
Wow. Thank you both. SClarke. Fascinating info
My Weekend Outlook is up:

Thanks!
Thanks, TK…
My best wishes continue for everyone here and everyone’s loved ones for better health, strength and peace.
Congratulations to all celebrating recent birthdays!!
Mrs. Fantastic and I are celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary today!!!
Only 0.10″ of rain since April 2. I normally don’t have issues with allergies, but the pollen in the air has really gotten to me this spring. We need a rainy day to clean out the atmosphere.
I am trying to get someone over to the home really soon to powerwash the siding. It’s way overdue and filthy. I am hoping to get someone here before the City issues a water ban again.
Parts of the area are back on the Drought Monitor:
https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?Northeast
No surprise. Dry early spring pattern.
Here we go again? Sigh.
This is a result of a dry pattern currently. It doesn’t mean we go back to what we had. Also, these types of things are common (too dry, too wet). Seldom is it “exactly normal”. In fact, “normal” anything is the least common. 🙂
Congratulations and wishes for a very happy anniversary. Wow.
We have a power wash company we use. They did go to a friends home in wellesley so might go to you. Shoot me an email if you can find anyone
Happy Anniversary !
The Hot&Cold Sox had it today. 11-5 win over the Twins.
Actually they’ve won 5 out of the last 7, not so COLD.
They are still in LAST place. 😉
In the league overall they are exactly in the middle.
They are in last place in their very good division.
They are a middle of the pack team.
The rain expected on Sunday into Monday “could” clear up that Drought Map in quick order.
It’s the pattern overall going forward that will help it. Heaviest rainfall from the upcoming system may actually be north of the driest areas. Remains to be seen. We’re not in dire shape. Just something to watch heading into ag season.
Part of CT in a moderate drought with the latest update. Everywhere else is abnormally dry.
SClarke .. you’re right on the button about the rocket. The rocket was destroyed intentionally (and safely) as is the plan for such an event, but as “late in the game” as possible so as to gather the maximum amount of data possible. Science at work!
Charges against actor Alec Baldwin have been DROPPED!
MLB: The Oakland A’s will be moving to Las Vegas in 2027.
Good for them! Finally! No more sewage in the clubhouse. I wonder if the possum family will be able to keep their home in the broadcast booth that can’t be used for broadcasting……
If the 18z GFS somehow has an accurate depiction of the upcoming weather, after tomorrow we’ll hardly see the sun again until sometime in May. 😉
Of course ……..
Environment Canada’s map of our Northern neighbor definitely shows winter’s continued grip over far Northern areas, like Nunavut, but also St. John’s. Also, there’s no warmth to speak of to our north and northwest. The hot spot in Canada is in the low to mid 60s. https://weather.gc.ca/canada_e.html
New weather post…
