DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 27 – MAY 1)
The final disturbance to impact our region as it rotates around an upper level low pressure area will do so today with lots of clouds and a shower threat, and then the system finally makes its exit to the east by tonight. High pressure builds in for Friday giving our region a very nice spring day. A complex low pressure system then arrives for the weekend, but it will be slow to do so with high pressure hanging on and holding the rain from the initial system at bay for a good part of Saturday. The low center from this system will be weakening and eventually be pushed eastward, just to our south, on Saturday night as its lingering rain shield finally moves in. We’ll have to wait for a second low, this one stronger, to wheel its way up the Appalachian Mountains and into the eastern Great Lakes later Sunday for a more solid surge of showery rain in the region. This system will then move into southeastern Canada by Monday, but as its broad upper level low pressure circulation moves into and over our region, there can still be showers despite some drier air working in.
TODAY: Lots of clouds with limited sunshine. Chance of showers, especially midday to mid afternoon. Highs 51-58, coolest in coastal areas. Wind variable, mainly SE to SW up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Decreasing clouds. Lows 40-47. Wind variable to N up to 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 53-60. Wind N up to 10 MPH shifting to E.
FRIDAY NIGHT: High clouds arrive. Lows 36-43. Wind E under 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Filtered sun to start, thicker clouds follow. Light rain may reach eastern CT and central MA by late-day. Highs 53-60, coolest coast. Wind E 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT / SUNDAY: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Areas of fog. Temperatures generally 45-52. Wind E-SE 5-15 MPH inland, 10-20 MPH coast, higher gusts possible at times.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Showers likely. Slight chance of thunderstorms. Temperature rise slowly into 50s. Wind SE-S 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
MONDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers, especially early in the day. Highs 60-67, coolest South Coast. Wind S-SW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.
DAYS 6-10 (MAY 2-6)
Once again our weather pattern will feature upper level low pressure in the region with near to below normal temperatures and occasional chances for showers, but rain-free the majority of the time.
DAYS 11-15 (MAY 7-11)
Still indications of the mean trough position lingering in the Northeast but trending slightly east with time. This translates into no big warm-ups, but overall dry weather and limited rain chances.
Thanks TK !

NAO ……
On the 3 charts below, nothing earth shattering to see that the 7 day forecast of this teleconnections ends up being far more accurate than the 14 day forecast.
https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/pna/nao.gefs.sprd2.png
the 14 day outlook works out ok if NAO ends up being close to neutral, but it doesn’t forecast the strongly positive or negative phases well 2 weeks in advance.
Good morning and thank you TK.
Glad to read yesterday that your wife is feeling a lot better.
Yes, thank you TOM. She was sick for 3 weeks!!!
Although she never tested positive, She and I are both CONVINCED she had covid and a pretty bad case at that.
She had every single possible symptom of the latest variant circulating in our area. If it were something else, I surely would have contracted it, yet I did not catch it. Therefore,
I really think it was Covid. I must have had better protection than my wife from the vaccines, plus I have been out more than she, so perhaps picked up a little immunity here and there. And finally, some people just don’t contract covid.
Cheers
Makes sense to me. I mentioned before that my daughter in law never got it from my son after his two bouts. One was well before any vaccine was available. As is the case with most of us, I know of many couples where one did not get Covid from the other. I have yet to see studies in why these Folks have some sort of natural immunity. Maybe I just missed them; but if there are none, there sure as heck should be
So glad she is better.
My wife and I are still laughing at these:

These are absolutely hysterical. I saw the second one last night and laughed just as hard this morning when I opened your link. The first โฆโฆwell, I think Iโll watch it a few more times. There is nothing like an early morning laugh
Thank you.
Thanks TK. Also TK hope your brother continues making progress in a positive direction. Glad to hear your wife is feeling better JPD.
Thank you Scott.

Thank you, TK.
SClarke, thanks for sending the Tampa Bay Rays security guy doing his dance moves. Given the Rays’ success – they’re 20-5 – he may become a major national hit in October during the Rays’ likely playoff run.
As we know, you can get in trouble extrapolating from the start of the season. But still, it is very impressive that the Rays tied the modern record for longest winning streak to begin a season and broke the record for longest at-home winning streak to begin a season.
Logan is up to 54 with a SSW wind. Nice seeing the wind from a
different direction than EAST!!!
BUT, alas, it will soon be switching to East anyway!
It’s been a wet and cold April in the Netherlands. [Well, until now. They’re expecting a very nice stretch of weather over the coming week] Due to this month’s unusual cold – some moderate frost in parts of the country, as late as a few days ago (this is quite rare for the Netherlands) – and saturated soil farmers haven’t been able to follow their normal planting schedule. Unfortunately, new European and Dutch rules – bureaucracy and rigidity often go hand in hand – require that most of the harvest be done by the end of September. Because of the very late start of planting (which still hasn’t been done pretty much anywhere in Holland), many Dutch farmers say they won’t be able to comply. https://nos.nl/artikel/2473021-boeren-verplicht-tot-oogsten-door-kalenderlandbouw-maar-kunnen-nog-niets-zaaien
Thank you, TK
Rainshine I just saw your post this morning. I do not recognize the name and think I would if he were the dentist we used. Thank you. Hope you are well. It is always great to see you here.
Thanks TK.
Current Boston sun angle at solar noon (12:40 pm) : 61.55 degrees above the horizon.
In other words, 2/3 of the way to being directly overhead
Current temps:
Logan: 55F
Worcester: 47F
Providence: 52F
Hartford: 50F
Lets see if that works elsewhere
Southern FL max sun angle today is around 78 degrees above the horizon and noon-time are already in the mid 80s. It doesn’t, shocker !!!!!
Apr-May up here is awful !!!!!!
Just poured out in pembroke W/ thunder
Same here.
Some of my students don’t hear a word I say (I think ๐ ), but it thundered and holy moly, they reacted like they hadn’t heard thunder in 5 years. Life of a middle school teacher.
Is anyone else experiencing front door theft of packages delivered by UPS?
I just experienced this again today. It’s the second time in 3 months. Unlike USPS, UPS rings the doorbell and if you’re not home (I was on a work teleconference, so I couldn’t answer the doorbell, which goes directly to my phone) leaves packages outside the front door (USPS never does this).
I can’t get suppliers to use USPS to avoid this problem. It seems they favor a more expensive and frankly worse option, in my opinion, in UPS or FedEx.
That’s awful, I’m sorry that is happening Joshua.
Do you know if anyone around the vicinity of your place has a recording camera that you could ask the police to check ?
Thanks, TK
Pouring here in the Boro! Kids are asking if their sports are are cancelled. A few lighting strikes in amongest the heavy rain!
Check out the lightning strikes on the Gulf coast!
Man-oh-man!

Tom, no camera out front though we do have one out back.
In any case, the stolen packages aren’t even for me. They’re gifts I bought for my daughter and for a friend.
The good news is that just now I was able to contact the online store in Brooklyn. Spoke to an actual person named Darren who assured me he would file a claim and the package would “get to me one way or another.” Last time this happened it did take 6 weeks for this to occur, but I did eventually get the package.
I’m glad the store is being helpful.
Oops. Missed this. Sorry.
Joshua, that is awful. Do you have a ring doorbell or just a bell that goes to your phone. There has been a lot of package theft out this way.
Other option I use is only use Amex for online. No fee and they have always immediately refunded $$ while they investigate. I like the business side amex better than personal.
It’s a bell that goes to my phone. Unfortunately I really couldn’t pick up as I was talking to a client.
I’m not too worried about the claim being processed, especially as the store is going to do this on my behalf. It’s just the hassle at this point.
By the way, like you, I only use Amex for online purchases. In the 2000s I got nailed with fraudulent purchases (>$1,500) on my Visa card (turned out to be a scam originating in a small town east of Moscow; I pursued the case relentlessly and ultimately got most of my money back), and ever since I’ve been very cautious.
Good news it is being handled well. You are a Smart man. I am not at all surprised you use Amex. It is hands down the best of the best for credit cards.
Today was echocardiogram day. Quick and easy.
Doctor will assess it but I don’t expect any issues to be found. ๐
Still on track for moving my brother to the next facility tomorrow. My other brother is going to be doing the transport to avoid the nearly $200 transportation fee they didn’t tell us about. Good thing he did a little digging. Nice try, money grabbers. ๐
Good news and good move.
Best wishes for you on that assessment and all with your brother.
Awesome that the echo is done. Prayers that nothing unusual is found. My brother is moving to a rehab today also and a friend is driving him. I am shocked and pleased that hospitals/rehabs/insurance now approve personal transport. Brigham would not allow us to move Mac and the rehab would not allow us to transport to Dr appointments. But that was years ago. And a bone of contention for him and for me. His insurance covered transport, but ambulance was not a choice he wanted
Thoughts on medium & long range outlooks from CPC.
I completely agree with their assessment of medium range (6-10 & 8-14 day outlooks) with the continued cool regime and tendency to be drier than average despite episodic unsettled weather.
What I am confused by is their monthly outlook for May itself was warm warm warm, issued just one week ago. I saw no evidence of a really warm May, yet they put us in the highest percentage chance of above normal temps for the entire lower 48. Seems to be the default to have a very warm bias on monthly, 3 monthly, and seasonal forecast for far too much of the country, and then they have to back track and cool big areas down. It’s been happening for months, especially out West. I think they could do a bit better here. At least this time the monthly was not as warm biased for the West.
Medium ranges are great though. ๐
CFS says the cool pattern that lingers through the first half of May will also linger for the second half of May. ๐
PDS warned tornado in the panhandle of FL
Cluster of showers to the west of Boston (Acton / Maynard area) has become thunderstorms as well. At least 4 CGs so far – one very close to my friend’s condo. Trying to get some distant video as I can see that storm from the hill here in Woburn.
Graupel and/or Hail in Berlin, MA
I am checking back to see if your forecast for this weekend in Plymouth, NH has changed much. Hope there will be enough dry weather to get out for some activity. Thanks.
I think the first of Saturday is the prime dry time.
My Weekend Outlook is up: https://stormhq.blog/2023/04/27/weekend-outlook-april-28-may-1-2023/
Samuel Morse was born on this day in 1791. To celebrate, here are the B-52s with Planet Claire, a song that starts out with about 30 seconds of Morse code. It’s an extraordinarily avant-garde piece from 1978. This performance from 1987 was videotaped for British children’s TV (I think it’s recorded in the UK, too). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOjAzI5zALo
And a little irony, it was also B-52’s singer Kate Pierson’s birthday. ๐
New weather post…
