Remembering those who served and did not make it home. May their sacrifice not be in vain and may they forever rest in peace.
DAYS 1-5 (MAY 29 โ JUNE 2)
On this Memorial Day with many parades / ceremonies scheduled, the weather will be favorable with dry conditions and much cooler air in place than what we saw yesterday. This is due to a back-door cold front that passed by overnight, introducing a northeasterly air flow. If there is one “problem” today, it is that the wind will be rather gusty this morning, which can make it challenging for some of the activities, like carrying/holding a flag, for example. Use caution with any open flames today too, as it has been dry and even post leaf-out our fire danger is still somewhat above normal. High pressure will continue to control our weather through the middle of the coming week, and after today’s cool northeasterly air flow, the high will gradually sink southward and the temperature trend will be up, slightly at first, then more noticeably as we head through midweek into late week. Thursday-Friday bring back the pre-summer heat, and by Friday you’ll finally feel a little up-tick in the humidity after several dry days before it. The only rain threat this week comes later Friday, based on current expecting timing of an approaching cold front. This may have an impact on many area high school graduations that take place on Friday evening, so that will be something to keep an eye on as there will be a shot at showers and thunderstorms with the approach of that front. We’ll still also see some Canadian wildfire smoke in our sky at times this week, giving it a hazy appearance. In addition, a large fire burning in southern Nova Scotia is producing smoke that may be at surface level, clipping part of Cape Cod and Nantucket due to the northeasterly air flow. It now appears that this smoke plume will work its way northwestward into more of the region Tuesday, and may be mixed all the way to the surface, reducing visibility and detectable by smell.
TODAY: Hazy sun – high altitude smoke, also some lower altitude smoke may arrive on parts of Cape Cod and Nantucket. Highs 65-72, coolest in eastern coastal areas. Wind NE 5-15 MPH, gusts 20-25 MPH especially through midday.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 43-50. Wind NE to variable up to 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: Sunshine but smoke may expand across the region. Highs 68-75, coolest coast. Wind variable to SE up to 10 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear though smoke may linger. Lows 47-54. Wind variable to S under 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 77-84, coolest South Coast. Wind S up to 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 51-58. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 83-90 except cooler South Coast. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 55-62. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of afternoon and/or evening showers and thunderstorms. Highs 83-90, cooler Cape Cod. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 3-7)
High pressure brings fair, cooler weather for the June 3-4 weekend. First half of next week sees a gradual increase in shower chances as the pattern changes and low pressure at upper levels arrives from the east in a retrograde.
DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 8-12)
A broad upper level trough is expected to be in control with a few episodes of showers and possible thunderstorms, but not a very wet pattern, and no major heat.

Good morning and thank you TK.
Thanks TK.
Some tv mets this morning still advertising 90 for Thursday and/or Friday.
My โ1/2โ birthday is today! ๐
Happy half ๐
Happy half.
I heard a real doozy on WBZ radio very early this morning. The on air traffic reporter reported โa fistfight in the westbound lane in the Ted Williams Tunnel.โ During the next segment the incident was resolved and traffic returned to normal.
The things one hears on early morning radio I guess. ๐
Thanks TK !
Seemed right around sunrise I felt a huge rush of wind through the window and since, the big pine trees have been swaying in a gusty breeze.
15 hrs + of sunlight in Boston from today until July 14th.
Nice! ๐
Made it to 86 here yesterday with an overnight low of 62 early this morning.
Currently 67 here.
Ocean temp: 55.76
Pretty breezy out there for sure.
Block Island buoy water temperature is 58 degrees I went in the water yesterday I only could stay in for about 10 minutes.
I need it to be about 65 before I can get in. I have been in with it as low as 53, but that was insane. I thought my heart was going to stop!!
You’re a brave man.
Thanks and I’m 67.
Thank you, TK. Gusty to be sure here. We may have had one day recently without gusty and I kind of missed the wind. Iโve discovered that as it come down the hill it also delivers interesting perennials to a garden bed we have near the street
What does 4G16 mean under a wind speed column?
I think it means wind is at 4 mph with gusts to 16 mph
OR knots as the case may be.
Ohhhh makes perfect sense. Thank you

This day in weather history goes back to 1995 and the F4 Great Barrington, MA tornado. The same day an F1 tornado hit Southbury, CT.

yes, I remember that. If I remember correctly, there was NO tornado watch out.
I donโt even remember last Memorial Day being rainy. I guess Iโm just used to 3-day weekends with one weather issue or another.
Next year I probably wonโt remember this wonderful weather either. ๐
I remember that quite well also. My daughter and a friend she rode with were grooming for their riding instructor at a show in great Barrington. They were camping not far from the path.
The tornado was on the ground for 11.5 miles. In New England you don’t see tornadoes on the ground for that long and usually there weak EF0 EF1. Of course the EF3 Springfield tornado which happened 12 years ago this Thursday was on the ground for 38 miles.
It has dropped to 65 here and 64 at the airport.
That wind is really chilling the air.
Ocean: 55.94
That air is being transported inland on winds of 20 mph from the ENE.
Brrrrr……
71 here but wind as you said is cool.
Yet again another cloudless sky

Very interesting. Thank you
Thanks, TK.
As TK mentioned it can get hot and humid in Amsterdam, but that is unusual. It is much more unusual than in Boston, for example. And tropical nights are rarer still – when the temperature doesn’t dip below, say, 72F. On average the summer daytime temperature in Amsterdam is about 8-10F below Boston, and in winter about 6-8F above. The record high for Amsterdam was 98F, but that is really extreme for this city. 90F days are pretty extreme, too. They happen, but not nearly with the same frequency as Boston. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Amsterdam was -18C or 0F, but is also very extreme for this city. Temperatures below 15F are highly unusual. Last winter the mercury never got below 27F in the city. It’s a more temperate climate. Keep in mind that the Western part of the Netherlands – where the main cities are located – is more temperate than the Eastern parts. It gets hotter in Limburg (capital city is Maastricht) in summer, and colder in winter.
While the lupines our son planted on the hill behind the house several years ago struggled returning this year due to weather, there are at least 50 12-15ish inch maple tree babies between our house and neighbors
Temp now down to 62 here.
That ocean is a Bleeping refrigerator and someone left the door open!)(*@(*&()*!@)(*#()!*)(#*!)(@#*)(*!@#
Now 61. same at the airport.
69 here. Wind ENE quite cool. Great day for planting.
NWS taking Thursday’s temps down a notch or two on the latest updates.
Climbed Mount Major this past Saturday. Weather perfect and views looked like 50 miles. Decent climb; some scrambling; not much mud; but there a few bugs. Always a worthwhile hike.
I thought Iโd replied to this. Wonder if i messed up
My log in info.
The weather sure worked for you. So happy you had a great climb and I can just picture the view.
Thanks Tk , chilly night here . As I was waiting in line for a Frappe In Hanover I was freezing .
A tad chilly reading my book on the deck. If I were not feeling so lazy, Iโd start up my fire pit; but the propane needs connecting
May have been cool in New England today boy on the return side of the high, it was 87-93F in a good chunk of Canada north of the Great Lakes.
Not too far inland Thursday looks 90-92 or so, but the gradient will be too light. Seabreeze highly likely at Logan and coastal areas likely to prevent 90F.
Friday too.
Real toasty at 850 mb both days.
Riding lesson for granddaughter Friday was just moved from 11:30 to 10:30. I drive her and donโt get up early any more โฆugh
I return on Thursday. Looks like it’ll be quite warm. I guess I’ll savor the 48F mornings and 64F days.
On the Celtics, well, what can we say other than it’s a wildly inconsistent team. When you thought they would lose, they won, and then when you thought they’d win they would lose. Bizarre, especially to lose 3 out of 4 at home during this series.
I will say this, some folks who gambled on the Heat made good money.
think about you last paragraph.
We started watching that game and witnessed brick after brick after brick being thrown up by the Celtics. It was obvious from the get go that they were destined to lose.
hmmmmm
New weather post…
