DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 27 – JULY 1)
The upper level low pressure area in control of the current stretch of unsettled weather will keep its influence on our region through the final day of June, or less dramatic sounding, through Friday. This system will be drifting slowly eastward from the Great Lakes through the New England area during this time frame, still centered to our west through Wednesday, right over us on Thursday, and finally shifting off to our east by Friday. There are generally no changes to the overall idea of periodic showers and thunderstorms today and Wednesday, with stretches of rain-free weather too, then a more pop-up shower/storm day Thursday and less of a chance of this occurring by Friday as we see the moist southerly air flow we have now become variable Thursday then more westerly by Friday.
TODAY: Clouds dominate. Areas of fog South Coast / Cape Cod. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms, but long rain-free stretches many areas. Highs
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Areas of fog. Scattered showers and possible thunderstorms. Lows 61-68. Dew point 60s. Wind S up to 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Areas of fog, especially in the morning. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms likely, especially during the afternoon. Highs 72-79. Dew point middle 60s to around 70. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Lots of clouds. Lingering showers, chance of thunderstorms, and areas of fog. Lows 60-67. Dew point 60+. Wind S up to 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Variably cloudy. Scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly in the afternoon. Any heavier showers/storms may contain small hail. Highs 75-82. Dew point 60+. Wind variable up to 10 MPH, possibly gusty near any storms.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Isolated showers early. Patchy fog. Lows 60-67. Dew point 60+. Wind variable under 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated showers and thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. Highs 77-84, coolest coast. Dew point near 60. Wind W up to 10 MPH with some coastal sea breezes.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy to mostly clear. Patchy fog mainly interioer lower elevations. Lows 60-67. Dew point upper 50s to 60. Wind variable to W under 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 78-85, coolest coast. Dew point middle 50s to 60. Wind W up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.
DAYS 6-10 (JULY 2-6)
The next upper low appears that it will be a weaker version of its predecessor and send a disturbance through at some point on July 2 with a shower/thunderstorm chance, then be pushed back to the south and southwest by a slightly stronger westerly flow that brings a drier weather pattern in for July 3-5 before a disturbance brings a shower/thunderstorm chance to end the period. Temperatures closer to normal and no major sustained heat.
DAYS 11-15 (JULY 7-11)
Zonal pattern with weak westerly flow but a tendency for surface high pressure to be located in eastern Canada. This increases the onshore wind chance and is a factor in keeping major heat at bay. Limited but still a couple shower and thunderstorm chances, but not as active as the June pattern.
An amusing story about how the weather impacts everybody even the weather forecaster…
So most people who read this blog are not unfamiliar with the craziness surrounding my brother’s situation and of course the ripple effect that has on daily activities. Toss in an active and unsettled pattern and trying to decide between getting a haircut and mowing the lawn, and you have the setup for this.
I had some hope based on short-range guidance that the activity would miss my area enough yesterday during the day so once I finished work I could go home and give the lawn a quick trim and mulch mow and forget about it through the July 4th period. Mother nature of course had other ideas when I saw a downpour rapidly developing just upstream to my south).
Usually I make an appointment with the haircut place as it lessens the chance of needing to wait as a walk-in. So at the last second I pick up my phone and call them and good luck intervenes. “Yes, she (my favorite haircutter) has an opening at 4:30.” So I say “Great! Put me down for it!”
I hang up, hop in to take a quick shower which I would have waited until after mowing to do, get dressed and just as I step out the door the sky opens up. This is one of those times I was exceedingly happy to step outside right into a downpour. That is when I knew I made the right decision. š
So now that the haircut is out of the way, I hope again for a long enough stretch of dry weather sometime during the next two to three afternoons to get this lawn out of my way. I begin a stretch of off days on Friday and I do not want that as part of my agenda during those. Haha!
ha ha ha
well, at least the hair cut is done.
Good morning and thank you TK.
Well the last 2 days, my area was spared any rain, however, in the wee hours this
morning, we did catch some rain. Now we see what happens here this afternoon. In this pattern, we are due.
a karge slug of rain appears to be moving up from South of RI and Long Island. we shall see
Thanks TK.
I was āout of sortsā yesterday. Today my day āshouldā be more normal.
Thanks, TK. Love the story! Our lawn is likewise waiting for a sufficient dry stretch to get a needed haircut.
We got our second downpour sometime in the middle of the night, but no thunder and lightning with it. Such a wonderful sound!
Thanks TK.
I CANNOT believe how incredibly HUMID it feels today.
Worse than the previous few days, even though the actual DP reading is a tad lower.
Currently 71 here with dp 69!!!
I feel like I am sitting at the bottom of a swimming pool. I am drenching wet! This SUCKS!!!! BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, TK.
Quite the storm last night. And we were only on the eastern edge of it. It reminded me of the thunderstorms weād have when we were in Charleston visiting Macās parents. Even when it was well past us, I could still feel the house vibrate. Great lightning show also. I believe it was finally warned but may be wrong
Thanks, TK.
We got a pretty good thunderstorm last night. Lots of thunder and eventually it poured. Sun is in and out here now and there is a breeze out there. Not helping much with the humidity except blowing it around, if that might be a correct way of putting it.

The ECMWF received an upgrade this morning. Is it better now? We’ll see….

Sounds like it might be an improvement, but who knows?
I guess we’ll find out. š
Many thanks for sharing.
I canāt wait to see how different it looks from the GFS.
For me in Boston this has to be the driest “rainy” or “unsettled” period I’ve experienced in a while. I do realize that what I just wrote is a contradiction in terms. Sure, there’s been some rain during the past few weeks, but frankly not that much, and for the most part very little during daylight hours.
July 2021, on the other hand … that was a very rainy summer month.
I appreciate TK’s levelheaded approach to forecasting. He tells you the truth: For example, today (and many days this month) there will be long stretches of rain-free weather. I don’t want to criticize local TV mets because they do a marvelous job. But I do find the way in which forecasts are presented – graphics, especially – problematic. I see the extended forecasts which show rain drops every day for weeks on end, essentially, and with relatively high percentage chances of precipitation. That’s just not an accurate reflection of what’s happening. It makes it seem much worse than it is.
Looks like I may get hit or clipped by rain moving up.
Still looks like bulk of it slides East. The last 2 days
everything was sliding West, today it is East. š
Itās sprinkling here, but getting darker in the southern sky.

Interesting. Never have I seen that before. š
Neat.
Really cool. Thanks, Joshua
UK forecast this week. See below. Daughter Lisa picked a bad week to visit her friend in Scotland. Oh well, weather-wise most weeks are bad up there. But it’s a lovely part of the UK. You’ll notice the range of the slow-moving Atlantic low, just south of Iceland. Its impact is felt over a very large area. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=th1tK3E5_D8
Starting to get into the dark greens and first yellow echos on the rain area moving into the south shore and accordingly, we now have steady rain. Itās dark.
Radar shows it should be raining here, but all I see are some
sprinkles…..
Thanks, TK!
70 air/66 DP at the noon hour. 0.85″ in overnight and morning rains. Had two thunderboomers in the early morning hours. There was a Flash Flood Warning for South Coast, Bristol County around 5 am.
It was a very dark morning here, but we are now having sunny breaks in the overcast!!
Sunny breaks usually fuel more storms later, unfortunately.
Hope your summer is off to a great start, Captain !!
It is, thanks, Tom! Hope yours is as well.
Working on the list of summer chores and errands and puttering in the garden. Can’t believe the Fourth is a week from today! Wow!
Do you have travel plans this summer?
Yes, we leave for Nova Scotia for 3 weeks this Friday. My wife has a relative getting married up there early in mid July.
We start right on the Bay of Fundy for a week and head further east after that.
Would love to return to NS. Safe travels. I know youāll enjoy.
Heavy storm in Amesbury yesterday eveningā¦I canāt get the lawn dry enough to mow it. And, while we havenāt had large amounts of rain, this has been a really dreary June.
Water enthusiasts who use the CT, Merrimack, Hudson and Saco rivers should see more water flow than usual for summer the next couple of weeks. Hopefully, those folks will take a bit extra caution.
Anyhow, the CT river in Vermont getting a lot of rainfall delivered to it today and I know the saco, Merrimack and Hudson watersheds have seen a lot of rain with this cutoff low.

Thanks TK. Ed Sheeran at Gillette Saturday and hoping we avoid the rain.
Nice to see you and I love him. Enjoy.
Ryan Seacrest has been named new host of Wheel of Fortune after Pat Sajak retires next year. For now Vanna White will remain with the show.
I like that choice.
It ended up being quite a lovely evening Iāve been out on deck for a few hours.
New weather post…
