Low Spins About (What’s The 4-1-1?)

4:11PM

Low pressure will continue to spin in the northeastern US into Wednesday before departing via southeastern Canada late Wednesday and Thursday. The center of this low northwest of New England means a mostly southerly wind tonight, shifting more to the west as the low starts to move north of the region during Wednesday. Spokes of energy moving around this low pressure area will cause a chance of showers during this time. Thursday, another low pressure area will move rapidly eastward from the Midwest, bringing a chance of wet weather late day and mainly at night. The track of this low may be just south of the forecast area, which puts us in a risk of a steady period of rain at night, though it does not look like a heavy rain event. This low departs on Friday with drier weather and a gusty wind in its wake. Fair weather is expected Saturday but by Sunday, the next disturbance will return clouds and a chance of showers to the region. A peek into early next week shows mainly fair and slightly milder weather.

Forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southern NH…

TONIGHT: Variably cloudy. Isolated to scattered showers. Low 41-46. Wind S 10-20 MPH gusting around 30 MPH diminishing to 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated to scattered showers. High 55-60. Wind W 10-20 MPH gusting around 25 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Low 42-47. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

  1. Who here is on Facebook that has not liked the Woods Hill Weather FB Page? Well go do it! 😉

    1. me – my FB account isn’t in my real name and isn’t associated with any email address I have. I know too many who’ve had their email addresses picked up and then have had to change them. Mine is a gazillion years old and I don’t want to lose it and don’t trust FB unless there is a reason you need likes and then I’d think about it.

    1. You’re welcome. BTW every time I see “Charlie” I think of the ice cream place on the north side of town called “Mr. Charlie’s Ice Cream”. They actually serve Richardson’s.

  2. made my own blog and scott did as well. 😀 This blog made me want to make my own just for fun 😀

    1. I have a few too but more for discussion – politics stuff. Did younuse blogger or word press?

      1. nice blog Matt – love the look of it. Can’t comment since it picks up my work information but will try to figure that out tomorrow.

      2. I like the pic Matt. Looks like somewhere along the coast of the UK, possibly Wales or Ireland?

          1. Love Wales. I’ve been travelling to North Wales for business the past couple years and its one of the most beautiful places in the world. Talk about changeable weather!

  3. It would not suprise me in the least if some locations came in at around a quarter of an inch of rain Thu evening

  4. I went out today with my brothers and we found that some of the lower level pathways are flooded over.
we went kyaking and we felt a current going against us for the first time. It took us a while to get out so we did not get to the otters but a large amount of bird life and many of the plants are turning green.

    1. Per the climate data from Taunton NWS…as of yesterday, the storm brought all four reporting stations to normal precip up to April 23rd. I think Logan is .14 in above normal and Worcester (?) is at -.14 in below normal.

March was exceedingly dry as the four stations received about 1 inch each for the month, which was about 2.5 to 3 inches below normal. Almost the same for Feb.

      1. Hey Tom…I really believe that if that storm was 100-150 miles further east and made it near the benchmark we might have been buried in snow like in 1997!

Also the CPC has us bone dry for the next 14 days, so I am not really confident of much more rainfall for awhile. We may be hearing fire danger warnings, etc. again at some point. 🙁

        1. That would have been interesting.

I have noticed that as well about the drier long term outlooks from the CPC. We’ll see if that storm ends up being one big rain producer within a several month or longer dry stretch.

  5. Couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon and evening to open up the company golf league. The breeze wasnt too bad, actually helped me out a few times. The course was soaked though, I was surprised it didnt drink up more of it.

      1. Not too bad Vicki, shot a 41, not my best but not my worst. We split the match so cant complain. Unfortunately there is a chance for some rain on Thurs but it might hold off till later in the evening/night.

  6. Was I hearing things or did Todd on his 6:00 newscast say the word “frost” for some areas in the coming days? 😯 He also suggested that gardeners shouldn’t plant any tomatoes until May.

      1. I really thought we were done meteorologically with hearing the “f ” word until October, lol. 🙂

    1. that’s a cool site AceMaster

I ran outside and sprayed down all of my plants after I pulled the window shade up this morning and saw frost on the ground. (strawberries and some annual flowers I grew in a greenhouse in early march)

      I may cover tonight

      1. Thanks AceMaster…my risk for frost in Boston is May 1st as well. I suspect much of SNE is around that date. Also I am guaranteed frost up until April 15. Up until now I always assumed it was a bit earlier. 🙂

  7. Look like the 00Z GFS is looking dryer for Sunday like you suggested TK. It does now show over 1/2 an inch of precip for Thursday now for a lot of Southern New England. We will see if that is just one run or if it continues tomorrow.

    1. I caught Harvey at 11PM and he said he thought at this point that the Sunday thing would stay south.

  8. I don’t think we will see the red flag warnings that we have been experiencing lately. One reason is the rainfall we just experienced and another reason is the leaves are coming out on most of the tree’s. This will provide a canopy which does not allow the forest floors to dry out as quickly. But that could all change if we don’t get any appreciable rain.

  9. I am almost afraid to ask but told my husband I would. He is wondering what everyone sees as the timeframe for rain tomorrow night and how hard the rain will be. His golf league starts and I believe tee time is about 4:30.

    1. btw – he hasn’t been the least bit concerned about a drought. He was certain the rain would appear as soon as he started to play golf in earnest !

      1. Does he have any hobbies that predict snow too? He might be our secret weapon to getting a few good storms next year! 🙂

        1. hahahahaha – I am convinced he wishes away every snowstorm I’m excited about.

oh dear – I had a thought while I was typing that – could I subconsciously be wishing for golf rain to get even??

          1. Vicki, I wish I had better news for ur husband. Yesterday it looked like the rain for tomorrow would hold off till just near of after dark, but its looking more and more likely that it will begin earlier in the afternoon. Good thing is, I dont think it will come down too hard, more of an annoyance than anything else. Tell him to bring the rainjacket and umbrella though!

            1. Thanks AceMaster. He has a good rain shirt/jacket thing. You probably know what it’s called better than I do. But rain this time of year is so cold. Darn.

  10. Looks like the 12Z GFS is now showing less rain tomorrow for MA, CT and RI. Looks like it is having a tough time handling this one as it was showing .5 to .75 in the 00Z run last night

    1. I tend to this a little more than what the 12zGFS is depicting, I’m thinking widespread .15-30 isolated higher amounts 🙂

    1. Hi! I’m here.

Bruins win tonight, and score between 3 and 5 goals. 6 is not out of the question but this would be if we had a 5-4 or 5-3 game late in the 3rd and it would be empty net.

      Go B’s! Show us!

  11. A fresh blog has been unwrapped from its package and placed out for your consumption. Add dressing to taste and enjoy. =)
