The Week Ahead

10:24PM

One more cold night tonight as high pressure builds across the region from the west. Clear skies, slackening winds, and super dry air will allow temperatures to fall to below freezing in many inland areas. The cities and immediate coast will not be quite as cold.

High pressure will bring sunshine and pleasant weather Monday after a cold start to the day.

The first few days of May will be more unsettled as a frontal boundary is nearby. A wave of low pressure will bring showers to the region on Tuesday. Less of a shower threat is seen for Wednesday though clouds may try to hang on if the wind stays off the water. By Thursday-Friday, a more southerly flow will result in warmer weather but there will be some shower risk as additional disturbances move through the region. Still not sure of the timing of showers and any sunshine, so temperature forecasts for the second half of the week are low confidence. It may continue unsettled for at least part of the weekend though no major storms are expected.

Forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southern NH…

  1. Thanks tk, not sure if anything was effected by the freeze warning, my temp as of now is 34.6 degrees so I don’t think anything did happen 🙂

    1. Got to 32.9 here last night but no frost even so warnings were certainly not accurate in this area. Still I’d rather know to be prepared than not. And in 35 minutes it’s already up to 43.9. Once the sun comes up it sure does warm quickly.

    1. Coastal is your temp going up as quickly? Maybe not if you are near the ocean. I’m up to 52 now.

  2. What good though for areas that did get down to 32 if u have trees around chances are it was a degree or 2 warmer near and under any trees and from what I’ve heard there were little if any damage, I’m sure way west and north it was colder, I even talked to a friend that had tomato plants and they were not affected, so it’s good news all around 🙂

  3. It will be interesting to see later in the week if we make it into the warm sector. If we do and what a front coming through on Friday there COULD be some thunder. I think the best shot of thunder right now stays west of SNE. Even if we do get thunder I don’t see severe weather.

    1. I used to get excited to see storms here but then I lived in Texas for 5 yrs and now I really don’t get very excited, bc they more than likley miss and r usually just thunder and lightning, take it easy jj 🙂

    2. There was 1 time the highway stopped bc a bunch of cars were under the overpass shielding from ping pong size hail, I really have a bunch of severe weather stories in 5yrs than I will ever have here 🙂

        1. Probably Vicky bc 35 years of living here I’ve never seen any thunderstorms here come across eastern Mass like they did in Texas, plus u get a severe storm in the area every week from March-Early June, it was some crazy stuff in the Springtime, I don’t think I ever said anything about not liking weather here 🙂

          1. I didn’t mean to imply in any way that you didn’t like the weather here. I just said I do like it for the exact reason you named – of course that’s just part of the reason.

I have trouble understanding comparisons which is why I probably don’t understand what you are saying. For me, I figure if I spend my time comparing I’ll just miss all that’s incredibly special about what I have. That’s for me only. Everyone has to do what works for them.

  4. I just want some to track since the weather has been boring which is good for most people.
Our severe weather pales in comparison to the rest of the country but if things come together like they did on June 1st of last year you could get some very nasty storms that COULD produce tornadoes.

    1. I am very happy enjoying the weather here which for the most part does not get severe although we certainly have our fair share. I just smile when people complain about the weather here because it can be so much worse and so much more dangerous in most any other part of the country. Nope, I’ll stick with new england where you can actually enjoy it without it being life threatening (again for the most part)

  5. I 2nd that Vickie!! Our weather pales in comparison to most places around the country in regards to severe nature.

  6. I agree with you saying Vicki. Every part of the country has there couple month stretch where the weather is crappy.
As I always say give my two feet of snow over a tornado any day of the week.

  7. Matt I agree with you its cool to watch a tornado form as long as it is in a field and not affecting a neighborhoods or major cities. It will be interesting if the tornado hunt team on the Weather Channel is able to capture a tornado on live television. I remember the one in Wyoming which was in a field and you saw right inside the tornado, how it formed and when it lifted back up. I thought that was cool.

  8. Does anyone know if the chances of steady rain will tail off as the afternoon goes on tomorrow? Say, around 3-4pm? I’ve heard different forecasts and haven’t gotten a real good idea about timing and intensity yet.

  9. I’m not going with the warmth Saturday. I think my 66 may even be too generous.
