Sunday November 5 2023 Forecast (6:51AM)

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 5-9)

Daylight Saving Time ended and we returned to Standard Time early today. Remember to change any manual (non auto-changing) clocks if you haven’t. Sunrise is back to the earlier 6:00 a.m. hour for now and sunset is just after 4:30 p.m. today, with the former to get later and the latter to get earlier still during the course of the next several weeks, as is the case every year of course. Otherwise, weatherwise… An area of high pressure hangs on to our south today through Tuesday. Today will be fair with a diminishing amount of cloud cover with time after a weak cold front goes through the region. If you were up early you may have seen a pretty heavy dew, due to a shot of relatively higher humidity ahead of that front. Cloudiness makes a comeback Monday as the boundary comes back as a warm front and passes through the region the other way. Low pressure passes north of our region on Tuesday and drags the front back through again from the northwest as a cold front. A pre-frontal trough and the front itself may produce a couple rounds of rain showers, otherwise rainfall looks limited and it will be a mild and relatively humid day Tuesday. Chilly, dry air arrives Wednesday courtesy Canadian high pressure. The front won’t get all that far to our south before another low runs along it, but I continue to lean toward a suppression scenario with the bulk of any precipitation from this low passing to our south early Thursday, with our area just under a cloud shield for several hours before we clear again and remain chilly on Thursday.

TODAY: Partly to mostly sunny. Highs 58-65. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear to partly cloudy. Lows 41-48. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Partly to mostly cloudy. Highs 55-62. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers overnight. Lows 48-55. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of a shower early morning and late day. Highs 60-67. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 38-45. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 47-54. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, gusty.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clouding over. Chance of rain near the South Coast late. Lows 35-42. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Cloudy start, then increasing sun. Highs 45-52. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 10-14)

Clouds, possible brief precipitation southern areas as another low passes to the south at the beginning of the period based on current expectations. November 11-12 weekend looks dry, breezy, and chilly in a northwesterly flow from Canada, then high pressure brings fair weather with cold nights and milder days later in the period.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 15-19)

Trend is for mostly dry, mild weather with a high pressure ridge dominating the weather in the Northeast.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.
Now the model results come in an hour earlier, but with nothing
    happening, does it matter? πŸ™‚

    1. It definitely makes a difference, and plenty is happening. πŸ™‚

I have 3 frontal passages in the next 3 days and 2 waves of low pressure to watch after that, just through Friday. πŸ˜‰

      1. ha ha ha, to me that is nothing happening.

Do we have any Tropical Storms on the horizon?
        NOPE
        any thunderstorms?
        NOPE
        Any Big Rain events?
        NOPE
        Any Big Freezes?
        NOPE
        Any Snow storms?
        NOPE

        Q.E.D.

        To each his own.
To me this is a VERY boring stretch of weather. πŸ™‚

Yes, I know, I am NEVER HAPPY!!!

        1. You are definitely the most weather-unhappy person I have known in my weather-interested life. You win that one. πŸ˜‰

I am probably as completely opposite as is humanly possible when it comes to weather. HAHAHA

            1. And you entertain us all in the process. We’re here for ya, Dave! πŸ™‚

BTW I’m aiming for my winter forecast to be written and posted about November 22.

I’ll be lucky if I can finish anything on time this year…

  2. Thanks TK !

Well, for me, winter starts at 4:35pm today or whenever the sun sets. 5pm darkness is winter.

I’m not unhappy though, the last couple weeks have been tough in the early morning, and I’m very happy to make the trade for morning light.

    1. Eric is in your camp. He says winter starts today, but he also thinks we should be on Atlantic Time and I don’t agree with either of those opinions. πŸ™‚

Eastern Time is fine, and Winter begins on December 21. πŸ™‚

As you know, the early darkness doesn’t bother me in the least. But I’m a rare kind. πŸ˜‰

      1. Winter begins when we get day time highs below freezing. Sure helps if ground is snow covered. But that is asking a lot theses days.

        1. I am With Tom on rather having early light than later light.
I don’t like starting my work day in the dark. I could give 2 craps, about it getting dark earlier.

  3. 32 inches of snow at Logan, 25 of which, will fall in one storm.

Meteorological winter to avg 2.5F above average temps.

    26” Concord, NH
    41” Worcester
    35” Hartford, CT

    1. Thank you, TK. I’m in your camp re darkness. When it falls early, I think of it as natures winter blanket

Also. Will there be a winter prediction page? If so, I can move Tom’s there. For now, I’ll save it.

  4. SClarke, I may be incorrect but suspect today is a difficult anniversary for you. Sending hugs❀️

  5. Regarding Dave’s & Vicki’s question above .. Yes let’s do a snowfall prediction contest.

I’ll create a page most likely as that seems the easiest.

Cities can be Boston, Providence, Hartford, Worcester.

  6. 14” Boston, MA
    10” Providence, RI
    19” Hartford, CT
    29” Concord, NH
    24” Worcester, MA

A sad outlook for a snow lover, but I’m now quite pessimistic – more a gut feeling – about snowfall this winter.

  7. Thanks TK. I’m copying to my notes and will add to the pages you creste. No hurry.

So far I have tom and Joshua.

    1. I also apologize for assuming. If someone else wanted to keep track, please let me know. I don’t want to step on toes. Otherwise, I’m happy to keep a record

  8. For the most part, it’s been a splendid 10 days weather-wise for my daughter’s visit to Boston and vicinity. The same can’t be said for the past 10 days in London. Quite dismal, wet and windy.

She’s leaving on a jet plane early tomorrow morning, back home to England. The distance `kills’ me a bit inside. 3,000 miles is far any way you slice it. There are figurative ways in which the distance has diminished since, say, 1990: Email, Zoom, whatsapp, easier long distance (video) calls. Still, it’s bloody far as they English would say.

  9. Well the Pat’s are in this game for sure, leading at the half,
14-10. They have been inconsistent, sometimes looking good and at other times, well, not so good. We’ll see how it ends.

  10. My 2023-2024 Snow Season total Snowfall Guestimate based on El Nino, suppression prospects and gut feeling.

Not expecting a bunch in the way of snow. More than last year, but well below average

    Boston: 21.4 inches
    Worcester: 29.8 inches
    Providence: 15.2 inches
    Hartford: 19.3 inches

There you have it, right or wrong, out to lunch or not, after all it is a fun quiz. πŸ™‚

  11. Just a sneak into what I am thinking, this winter is not going to be as bad as some might think.

In terms of the Patriots I didn’t watch the first half as I was playing ultimate frisbee. Will have to look but seems the Patriots defense has been getting torched

  12. Ok i am done with Mac Jones.
Poor decision making. That interception would not have happened if he just waited 2 seconds, he would have had a wide open running back to the left that would have gotten it into overtime or even a first down

    1. I am not sure what the problem is. On one play Jones looks great, the next play he has happy feet and looks awful!!

NOT CONSISTENT, so I guess that means ship him out of town.
I’d have no problem IF they gave up on him. πŸ™‚

        1. That was for Matt. TK I saw why my three posts went into moderation and fixed it. No need to make extra work for you.

      1. This was a reply to you JPD

Frankly, if BB stays, the best thing for Mac would be to get as far away from the pats as he can. Sadly, it may be too late.

  13. Boston, MA: 32″
    Worcester, MA: 46″
    Providence, RI: 28″
    Hartford, CT: 37″

[Bonus Question] Lunenburg, MA: 97″ πŸ™‚
