The Week Ahead

10:11PM

Upper level low pressure hangs near the northern Mid Atlantic Coast through midweek then should get pushed a little further south late in the week. Tropical Storm Alberto is expected to meander offshore of the Carolinas before heading out to sea by the middle of the week. For southern New England, a weak surface low pressure area will spin some moisture in from the Atlantic later Monday into Tuesday which will hang around into the middle of the week as well. This should get pushed out toward the end of the week as the northern jet stream gets a little stronger and further south and pushes things along.

An early call on the Memorial Day Weekend: Cold front passes through on Saturday which means a shower and thunderstorm threat, but not a widespread heavy rain event. High pressure builds in Sunday with a northerly wind and dry air, then moves offshore by Memorial Day when it warms up in most locations with continued dry weather.

  1. Thanks TK !!

Well, the EURO has been interesting to watch the last six days. Middle of last week, it brought a strong ridge all the way into the northeast, with very high 850 temps…a true blast of summer……..then, starting around Friday and continuing over the weekend, it projected the ridge to be more suppressed, scaled back the 850 temps, even on its one warm day, and allowed a push of cool air to easily come into New England for Sunday and especially on Memorial Day.

Just assumed this morning that trend would continue…..ah…..no. Its trended back towards an overall warmer solution. It will be interesting to see what the 12z run brings. I’m guessing the models must be struggling with the projected NAO and am guessing that later today, the NAO outlook will probably look more neutral or positive than it has the last few days.

Have a good day all !

    1. That period of time is very much up in the air which is why I didn’t tweak the #’s down too much so far out. 😉

  2. Thanks TK.
Looks like an overall good holiday weekend at this point with the exception of late Saturday and Saturday night with a frontal passage. I don’t like to use the term cold front this time of year since the air behind the front is not cold. Those storms should they develop do not look severe at this time.

        1. Thanks. I just saw the the Weather Channel and I think I heard them say winds about 40 mph. So the storm may not be a tropical storm anymore – unless they count gusts of wind.

          1. Alberto such a tiny circulation and you could see the dry air getting into the storm. I don’t expect
this to strengthen and it will remain over the fish which is hopefully what will see all during hurricane
            season.

  3. 12z EURO is back to the cooler scenario for the weekend, as the 00z run was much warmer.

    1. Bite your tounge JJ! You can have that weather in October. It’s closing in on summer, supposedly. Although you’d never know it here in Cambridge today. Horrid day weather wise today.

      1. When don’t have triple h weather you save money on the electric bill since you don’t have to run the AC.
I can’t think of anyone who would not want a few extra bucks in their wallet.
Cool temps as long as it sunny is not a bad thing. When its cool cloudy and damp then it is a different story.

        1. I could say the same thing to snow and cold lovers. Why would you want snow and cold when u can save money on oil 😉
          Onshore east wind bites!

  4. Warmest spot in New England, at 86F…..one Caribou, ME.

Interesting drive down Rte 139 eastward into coastal Marshfield….Breaks and splashes of sun up near Rt 3, but darker skies and thicker, lower fog as you head closer to the ocean. Not surprised, it’s kind of muggy.

    1. Caribou ME the warmest – that’s a kick.

Saw that line of showers – hope you are eating early!

  5. Thin line of intense showers approaching the south shore. Should pass through right about the time the food is ready to come off the grill. 🙂

  6. Quick 0.03 inch of rain here – would like more for grass and flowers but not looking too promising in the near future
