DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 9-13)
I’m still kind of wrapping my head around my experience in northern VT yesterday, witnessing a total solar eclipse. I’ll share stories and a pic or two soon via the comments. But first, onto a quick outlook on our coming weather. No big changes in the short term. Today will feature fair weather but it’ll be cooler along the coast with high pressure to our north. A warm front will make a slow approach Wednesday with an overcast sky and eventually some light rainfall. This front will face a bit of a struggle but eventually will push through the region Thursday, a showery day with a warming trend from south to north. As low pressure tracks to our northwest and north, a cold front will move across the region from west to east Friday. Ahead of it, more mild and showery weather will occur. A wind shift will bring in drier air late Friday, with some clearing, but a trough rotating around the base of the low as it heads for eastern Canada will make Saturday cool and slightly unsettled with additional showers possible.
TODAY: Partly sunny. Highs 51-58, coolest at north-facing and east-facing shores. Wind NNE 5-15 MPH shifting to E.
TONIGHT: Clouding up. Lows 41-48. Wind E up to 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Cloudy. Drizzle likely. Light rain possible. Patchy fog forming. Temperatures steady 41-48. Wind E 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT / THURSDAY: Cloudy. Areas of drizzle and fog. Periodic rain. Temperatures may hold 41-48 southern NH and northern MA and rise to 49-56 to the south. Wind SE-S 5-15 MPH, higher gusts possible.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain showers likely. Temperatures steady or may rise slightly. Wind S 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.
FRIDAY: Cloudy with rain showers, some heavy, ending from west to east midday-afternoon. Breaking clouds later. Highs 58-65, except cooler South Coast. Wind S 10-20 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to W by late in the day.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 35-42. Wind W 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Scattered rain showers. Highs 45-52. Wind W 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.
DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 14-18)
A little adjustment to the forecast here. Still expect fair weather during the day of April 14 then a disturbance to bring a rain shower chance that night and into at least a portion of Patriots day April 15, but not expecting a widespread rain event from that. A fair interlude follows, then more unsettled weather later in the period. Still many details to work out.
DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 19-23)
Dry, milder early period. Unsettled weather may return later in the period with a cooling trend.
Thanks TK.
Thank you, TK!
Looking forward to your stories of your adventures!
And, hopefully, photos!

Thank you TK!

Thank you, TK.
Just checked my temperature here and it has zoomed up
to 59. I see 57 at Logan. Wind has NOT come on shore as of yet at Logan, but winds are light and it is destined to turn on shore soon. Meanwhile, I’ll take the NICE temperature!!!!
Low here was 41.
Looks like low at Logan was 48
Thank you TK. Glad yesterday was all you
Hoped for.
So where are folks getting the idea that 68 will be our high today. I checked four main networks and they are all in line with TK
where did you see 68 as a High?
Wankum had 68 for high like next Monday or something like that. π
A sutton friend said it was to be 68. Iβll check where she saw it
The weather channel
Ahah, the world’s most leading authority on accurate weather predictions. π π π
btw, the way things are going, Sutton may very well reach 68. π π π
Yep. Sadly leads the pack in creating criticism of meteorologists
My niece sent me a txt from a coworker who went to Burlington. 7:12 to get to Bow. 5.5 was just to get to VT/NH border. All under 40 till there.
I do remember 7-8 hour drives to or from Stowe. They were in snowstorms and one ice storm. Perhaps if itβs your passion, then it is worth the trip. π
Now 60 here in JP and 61 at Logan which is still with a NW wind. π
I Hit the LIKE BUTTON!!!!!!
Logan’s wind has just gone around to due North at 8mph. Won’t take much to turn it NNE and then NE. π
Then we’ll see what happens to the temperature.
Btw, there is due to by a FLYOVER today prior to the Red Sox
home opener? YES?
They generally fly right over my house or very nearly right over it.
If I know exactly when, I could get a very nice view.
In any event, I SURELY can hear them as they rock the house!
We have seen a couple even out here but used to see them often in Framingham. Itβs a thrill. Good luck.
61 here in JP. Still 61 at Logan, however, the wind has
shifted to a little bit East of North, say 10-20 degrees or so.
Any moment, we should begin to see a temperature fall at the airport. It will be much slower to happen here, but still likely to do so.
Logan DROPPED to 57. Wind ENE at 10 mph.
THERE IT IS!!! Right about on Schedule!
Now, how long to penetrate inland to my location?
At 62 now. π
Yup π
Wonder if you might get another degree or 2 ?

Tomorrow could be very dangerous across the gulf coast area (links 1 and 2)
Today has a danger too (link 3
No wonder, a very impressive, cold upper low about to put a strong jet over warm, humid air streaming out of the Gulf (link 4)
We just hit 60. And an hour ago we were at 50
I love the warmth of the spring sun.
I do also
Logan now 55
Was there a temperature drop at Logan yesterday during the eclipse?
Looks like a couple of degrees
https://ibb.co/28hxrWK
Thanks Vicki. π
I was outside at the maximum. It may have dropped a degree or 2, but COMPLETELY UNNOTICEABLE!
What a BEAUTIFUL DAY it was!!!!!
It was noticeable here but only because there was a breeze and if suddenly felt cooler. Iβm still disappointed thsf i coild not tell the difference in lighting.
OH, There was quite a difference in light. Although it was clearly still daylight, it was dimmed for certain here.
Quite noticeable. π
BUT still the sun cast a decent shadow. Amazing what
just 7% of sunshine can still do. π π π
Still 62 here in JP while it is 55 at the airport. Let’s keep it that way. π
Thanks TK
Interesting and a GOOD sign.
Back up to 57 at Logan with an ENE wind. That is Awesome, given how cool it could be!!!!
Logan up to 59 with EAST wind at 10 mph.
Well now, not too shabby!!!!
Still 62 here. π
Up to 61 in SE Sutton
WOW!!!!
Logan is up to 61 with an EAST wind at 12 mph.
That is truly amazing!!!!!
High temp projections dashed to S**T…….
Fairly mild/warm airmass above and sun at nearly 55 degree angle will get this done.
Yes, but right at the shore with the decent EAST wind REALLY surprises me!!!!
Can’t get Boston Buoy water temp, but Stellwagen is
at 42.3 F
HOW is Logan at 61???????????????, excuse me, it’s not. Just dropped back to 59. π
Still 62 here.
Now 57 at Logan. π Fascinating watching this. π
Still stuck at 62 here and that has been the high for the day. π
I SEE a 70 at Windsor Locks CT
and even a 68 at Martha’s Vineyard and New Bedford. π
Warming above my fcst. Wind shift later than I expected.
It’s happening though.
Our temp has dropped 2 tenths in 5 minutes. Now 61.8
I appears to be responding now to the East wind.
I suspect we’ll be in the mid-to perhaps upper 50s during
most of the afternoon. I can deal with that as long as it doen’t
go low 50s or below. π
Warming above everyoneβs forecast (I checked 4,5,7,10 this morning) but it happens and this is when I doubt many will complain
It’s 66 here and was 67 a few minutes ago.
Now Logan is back down to 55 !!!!! That’s more in line with what i would expect, if not even a bit cooler. π
Still stuck at 62 here. So whatever cooling influence we are
getting here, it is keeping any temperature rise in check, but
so far, not dropping the temp. I suspect it will do so soon. π
65 here

There must be some longer than usual flights today, if the path goes through Texas.
Nws. 69 in sutton.

Yesterday was a wonderful experience. I was along Lake Champlain in Burlington, VT. (I need a tip on how to post pics here). It really was breathtaking and left me feeling that all is good with our world – even with the bad. I just left there with a feeling of goodness and peace. So much so that when we left at 4:30 and immediately hit traffic on a side street in South Burlington, that I didn’t even sweat it.
The traffic on I 89 southbound was EPIC – but just part of the experience. Fascinating to see nothing but tail lights for miles while hardly a car coming north. And the rest stops were overwhelmed on a Monday night. I felt for parents with little ones – they looked exhausted! It took us 9 hours and 40 minutes to get home to South Dartmouth at 2:10am. I am back at work on three hours of sleep but wouldn’t change anything about yesterday at all. And to be surrounded by GREAT breweries (Burlington Beer, Zero Gravity, Stackhouse) with such friendly and wonderful staff just added to the magic of the afternoon.
The only thing that would have made it better is if we could have experienced it along the ocean but Lake Champlain was a fine second choice. I hope I can still do it again in North Dakota in 2044 at the age of 74!
What an awesome post. Thank you. I spent a good deal of my youth on isle la Motte (furthest island up In Champlain) so love thatis where you headed. As far as driving time, I know what you mean. For the too many times Iβve been stuck in very long traffic tie ups, it has always been for something special. Time pales in comparison
This is what others here have suggested I use for photo uploads
https://imgbb.com/
When I post my summary in a bit, you’ll find many similarities. π
NWS has 72 in sutton. That sensor is very close to me. It isnβt 72 here Mr Kestrel has 68.1 which is in line with two other thermometers I have. We do have a weak east wind now
52 at Logan, 59 here
Seabreeze gaining strength + sun lowering from solar noon max = temps crashing near the coast.
As the sun continues to lower the sky, that will slowly progress inland.
This morning was a nice surprise though temp wise, even at the coast. We’ll take it !!
I believe that if the eclipse was today, the skies would have been much better for viewing. Didnβt earlier forecasts have more cloudiness for today?
The sky was excellent yesterday – just a bit of filtering to the far west and southwest.
Wow!
48 at Logan and even down to 55 here!!!
REFRIGERATOR out there with that Ocean!!
Was 73 here and now down to 70. I switched to my first short sleeve tee of the year
Today in weather history, from the Weather Guide Calendar.
April 9 1877.
“I wonder how long it would take humans using 2024’s latest technology and equipment to accomplish this same result: Oregon Inlet, along NC’s outer Banks, joins Pamlico Sound with Atlantic Ocean and separates Pea Island from Bodie Island. On this date, the winds and waves of a nor’easter widened the inlet by 3/4 of a mile. The power of pounding wind and surf is amazing.”
Yet another example of how nature will rearrange the coast as it wants. Don’t spend thousands of dollars on a pile of sand to block your property from the ocean. The ocean doesn’t give a shit. π
Nature fascinates me. And You donβt even have to go as far as NC.
In 1898 (I think was the year) the Portland gale separated Humarock from Scituate at Fourth Cliff and then it was joined again to the mainland at Rexhame beach near Tom. I often see humarock mentioned as part of Marshland but it is Scituate.
Oh as far as giving a shitβ¦.man does need to start giving one. The rising sea is on him. The stormsβ¦.well with warming oceans they may be now also.
I may be repeating re eclipse and perhaps I heard the words of wisdom on here first in which case I apologize. I heard it said that it is amazing how it took just one small event to bring everyone togetherβ¦..for change.
Iβm paraphrasing. But so sad that we cannot see that
49F in Boston; 63F in Providence; 78F in Washington DC.
That’s a VERY typical April scenario.
I’m exhausted from my otherwise very nice trip to my daughter overseas. Travel and jet lag can be draining on both the outbound and inbound trips. I sincerely don’t know how others do it, especially as we age. I managed well 30 years ago, but not now. I admire people’s capacity to do long distance travel and quickly overcome jet lag: Actually sleep; I’ve essentially been up for most of the last 48 hours; when I sleep it’s basically nap sleeps that only last an hour or 2.
This is one of the reasons I LOVE spring. π I love those big temperature contrasts!
So glad you had a special trip, Joshua.
Does anyone know how to find Bostonβs temp 46 years ago today (1978)? I think that week was much like today but I may have the wrong year.
i can tell you that o 4/8 there were snow showers in the air with tempd in the 30s. Day my son was born 46 years ago.
Then I have wrong year. I remember our company international client conference β¦.always held marathon week,,,,was unusually warm one year. Mac asked me to Marry him 46 years ago today and we had dinner at the Copley where the conference was always held. And wondered if it was that year.
Did you know I ran & finished the marathon on the Hospital team
Excellent!
I do remember that. My son ran it not long after you I believe
Iβll never forget it . Have a nice frame in the living room with pictures , bib , official medal & my finish time 5:33
That’s awesome !!
Thank you, JPD. Looks as if we both had a special week. Happy birthday to your son
