Saturday April 27 2024 Forecast (8:49AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 27 – MAY 1)

Another chilly sunrise on this Saturday morning as high pressure sits overhead. And another dry day ahead, with a slightly better ability to warm the air mass up during the day than we saw yesterday, but not all that much. The coast will still be vulnerable to a sea breeze, so it’ll be cooler there. Also, the sun won’t stay as bright as it did yesterday, as we’ll have high cloudiness fanning in from the west as the day goes on, thick enough to start filtering then dimming the sun as we head toward late afternoon. This is from a warm front approaching the region from the west. The clouds will thicken up this evening and overnight when a couple of periods of light rain will probably occur in much of the region as the front moves through. Sunday, we enter the warm sector, and you’ll notice that, along with a noticeable increase in humidity (not the stifling type you feel in summer, but nonetheless you’ll notice the air definitely has a more humid feel). A southwesterly air flow will be the transporter of this moisture into the region, but also be a direct sea breeze for the South Coast, which will be coolest compared to the remainder of the region. A weak trough approaching from the west along with a couple disturbances moving through in a northwesterly air flow can trigger a couple of showers, but the vast majority of the day will be rain-free. A similar set-up exists into Monday but with a lesser shower threat, being triggered mainly from daytime heating over interior locations. With the exit of low pressure out of southeastern Canada and an area of high pressure across southern Hudson’s Bay, a back-door cold front will make its way down the coast and into our area during the day Monday, setting up a significant temperature contrast by mid afternoon from northeast to southwest across the region. A trough of low pressure and surface frontal system will move into the Northeast via the Great Lakes and Midwest on Tuesday. Most guidance has trended to an occlusion of the low and our region staying on the cooler side with unsettled weather for Tuesday. The clouds from this system may linger into Wednesday as we keep an cool easterly air flow with weak surface low pressure moving into the waters just southeast of New England. If that system is a little quicker or weaker, Wednesday’s weather will be less cloudy and less cool than what I’m currently calling for. Check updates…

TODAY: Sunniest through midday, then increasing high cloudiness. Highs 56-63 coast, 63-70 inland. Wind SE to S up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Cloudy. A period of light rain possible overnight. Lows 47-54. Wind SE to S up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain showers through midday, then partly sunny. Highs 63-70 except cooler South Coast. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Passing rain showers possible. Lows 48-55. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated afternoon showers possible well inland. Highs 65-72 except 58-65 Boston area northward occurring by midday, with potentially falling temperatures midday on, especially Boston area north. Wind variable up to 10 MPH, but may turn NE 5-15 MPH in southern NH and eastern MA.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 43-50. Wind NE-E 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Cloudy. Rain showers likely. Highs 51-58, coolest coast. Wind E-SE 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Chance of rain. Areas of drizzle/fog. Lows 44-51. Wind SE-E 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Cloudy. Highs 53-60, warmest inland. Wind E up to 10 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 2-6)

Medium range guidance is inconsistent for this time period with 3 major models showing somewhat different setups and scenarios. This is not unusual for spring. The basic idea is the same. A disturbance may be nearby sometime around May 2 or 3 with a shower threat, and another may be around later in the period, but the overall pattern to me looks dry, and while temperatures can be variable, they shouldn’t stray too far from what is typical for early May.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 7-11)

Generally dry pattern with a couple minor systems to threaten brief unsettled weather. Overall northwest to north flow should result in temperatures averaging slightly below normal.

  1. good morning and thank youi TK.
Made it only to 54 yesterday. We should do better today.

    Ocean temp: 45 (Boston Buoy)

  2. Some of those videos that came out yesterday with the Tornado’s wow and looks like there will be more today as that system moves east.

Some recent news on my end, I defended and passed my defense I now have my M.S and will be working as a restoration technician here in the USVI.

    Now to the Patriots.
I like the Maye pick, I am not sure about the others, I wanted them to trade the 34 pick to the 9ers for one of their receivers. I also think we need to realize that the Patriots have not changed much in terms of their philophy in picking wide receivers. I hope Polk is good but he has some of the same issues as previous WR the Pats have selected.

What Bill has done and what Kraft has done continues to show who was really responsible for the issues the Patriots have had over the past 5 years. I am not saying Bill is completely innocent in this but Bill masked so many of the issues that probably started well before. Owners are even talking about keeping Kraft out of the Hall of Fame because of what Kraft has done. Everyone that knows Bill personally and even the national media is now saying this. Its just the local little beat reporters that complain about him because he wouldn’t take their bait for a headline. I can not wait to see the Manning cast and Bill this upcoming season.

  3. Thanks TK.

Down to 30F again this morning after 28F with heavy frost yesterday morning. I believe this is the 5th consecutive day with below freezing temps for lows if I am counting correctly? Pretty impressive for late April.

  4. With all the cold temps at night this week, the ski areas have lost very little snow.

Sugarloaf ME where we were last weekend still with nearly 100 trails open.

Killington VT has also re-opened the K-1 gondola and North Ridge area for this weekend in addition to the typical late season Superstar terrain. 41 trails open there now with some all natural snow trails still open as well. Again, impressive for late April.

  5. Thanks TK !

There was one supercell yesterday the storm chasers were capturing live on the weather channel.

I was amazed with the incredible rotation of the clouds in the wall cloud and the size of the circulation. It was massive !

And they captured a 30 second or so timeframe where the funnel went from just off the ground to a major on the ground, tornado.

    1. Wild !

      The multiple vortices are Mesmerizing.

      Saw that on multiple tornadoes.

The atmosphere must have been perfectly aligned yesterday.

Interestingly, I think SPC was only at enhanced and 10% tornado contour yesterday.

I am certainly not questioning their abilities. Just pointing out they’ve had a couple moderates and 15% tornado contours earlier this spring and the atmosphere on those events didn’t produce what occurred yesterday.

    1. Awful.

I hope the death toll isn’t high.

Not surprised with that type of damage based on the radar signatures and the video of the tornadoes.

  6. It’s a reminder I shouldn’t need, but after seeing yesterday, I should be more thankful for our cooler spring climate.

  7. Thankfully it is rare to get strong tornadoes here in New England. The last strong one I remember was the Springfield EF3 tornado June 1st 2011.

  8. Two week old bunnies in my oldest’s veggie garden. She went out to clear the garden just when they were being born. Sadly, their mom was killed. Daughter and family are on the way to meet a rehabilitator who will raise them

  9. I would not be surprised if another PDS tornado watch is issued to the east to include Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

  10. It looks like there’s a good chance the Sox will win at home today. They’re leading 17-0 after 8 innings!

    1. I love Ullmark. He’s great. But Sway is the hot goalie. And when you have it working, you stay with it! Right move tonight. Let’s hope the scoreboard supports that at the end of the game…

          1. They haven’t been able to figure out a cause for what’s going on. All the neuro tests have come back “normal”.

          2. I’m sorry to hear this about Jack.

He did have a classic line right after the B’s went up 3-0.

            “I’ve been in quieter libraries”

            1. HAHA! Some of his phrases are classic.

People have been pretty harsh and nasty toward Jack on social media, but the thing is, he has something going on, and they can’t figure it out. His speech has been slowing and he’s been having more and more difficulty with particular sounds and words. He’s chosen to step down because he knows he can’t keep to the standards he set for himself.

Jack is a passionate fan of the game, the team, and he could always announce far better than most of his keyboard warrior trash-talkers ever would have been able to. I wish him nothing but the best. But he’s got at least one more game to call!

The final game of this series will be his final game in the booth as play-by-play announcer.

      1. Impressive talent!
Most of the reason, IMO, why Americans in general don’t like soccer is because Americans, in general, are impatient and don’t care to take the time to learn the game. 🙂 Great sport! Not my favorite of the bunch, but I do like it a lot. 🙂

Hockey will always be my #1.

        1. for me, it was bsseball, then hockey, then football with bastketball dead last. Soccer, NOPE.

I have a little more appreciation for soccer now. Watching 3 seasons of Ted Lasso helped

  11. Bruins joined the win party. And after a 3-1 win they are up 3-1 in the series and can end it on Tuesday in Boston. 🙂

Mark, I really hope today was the start of a big Islanders comeback. I’d love to see them bounce the Canes. But it’s going to be hard.

    1. All four games thus far have been very tight one goal games (and I am not counting the empty netters in the first two games). Islanders outshot the Hurricanes in games 1 and 3 and probably should have won both. They also had a 3-0 lead in game 2 and squandered it late in the third period. The series could easily be 2-2 or even 3-1 Islanders.

I was happy to see them pull out a win today and send it back to Carolina. They definitely didn’t deserve to be swept. I’m certainly not expecting a comeback in this series but would be cool to see them scrap out another win in game 5 and send it back to UBS for game 6.
