Friday May 3 2024 Forecast (7:38AM)

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 3-7)

The pattern during the next 5 days will transition from blocked to more progressive. For today and Saturday, while we’ll have a fair amount of clouds around both days, we’ll be rain-free as high pressure in Atlantic Canada extends its reach into our region. Overall, the region will be noticeably cooler than yesterday was, with the coastal areas the coolest – typical for springtime with high pressure in control. Sunday, the high slides away and a frontal system moves in from the west with clouds and eventually showers, which seem more likely to occur in the afternoon and evening than earlier in the day. This system will exit early Monday with no more than lingering start-of-day showers in southeastern areas, but high pressure will build in with fair weather and mild to warm air early in the week, again with many coastal areas being cooler than interior locations.

TODAY: Mainly cloudy start but a partial clearing trend from east to west allows intervals of sun to become more prevalent with time. Highs range from 53-60 coast to 60-67 inland. Wind NE-E up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Lows 46-53. Wind E under 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Highs 54-61 coast, 61-68 inland. Wind E-SE up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 48-55. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers arriving west to east afternoon-evening. Highs 52-59 coast, 59-66 inland. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely. Patchy fog. Lows 50-57. Wind S 5-15 MPH shifting to SW.

MONDAY: Clouds and showers lingering in eastern MA and RI early, otherwise a sun/cloud mix. Highs 57-64 South Coast / Cape Cod, 65-72 elsewhere. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 48-55. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 68-75 except cooler Cape Cod. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 8-12)

Unsettled weather is most likely May 8 with a trough and front passing by, and again in a potential longer stretch as blocking returns mid to late period, along with a cooling trend (low pressure to south, high pressure to north). Will watch this trend and adjust details.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 13-17)

Overall spring block or slow-moving pattern should feature upper level low pressure over or just east of the region – US Northeast to southeastern Canada. This pattern is seasonably cool but not too wet, despite some unsettled episodes with shower chances.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

    What a lovely day, NOT!

    Typical PUTRID SPRING weather.

Let’s hope the 2 days of 70s materializes early next week. That would be nice. Most of yesterday was nice, so that’s something.

In the Spring, New England is just a Southern extension of Atlantic Canada.

Wake me up on June 15th, perhaps we’ll be out of this crap by then. 🙂

Oh and for what it is worth, ocean temperature at Boston Buoy is 46.8 which of course is NOT helping matters.

I will post the ocean temp almost daily.

  2. TK, thank you!

Your best estimate / guesstimate of time when heavier rain arrives in Boston on Sunday …?

  3. Break out the beach blankets, it’s a whopping 50 degrees out.
A day at the beach is in order!!!

  4. Water temperature at Block Island Buoy a couple of degrees warmer at around 48 degrees. Sun angle the same as August 8.

    1. Pretty chilly. Do you know if the block Island temp
is “about” average for this time of year or a bit warmer or cooler?
      Curious and thanks

      1. I think the lowest water temperature never got below 39° this winter. My guess Block Island buoy is maybe 1°-3° above normal for this time of year.

          1. Closest I can find for normals is Montauk, where the water temp is currently 48.7. The normal for April is 48.6, and the normal for May is 53.6

  5. Thanks, TK!

It’s Senior Skip Day here. I suspect that they are not at the beach.
I have been telling my underclassmen that, when it’s their turn to have Senior Skip Day, to check the forecast before picking the date! 🙂

    1. Good day for skipping for gamers. It is May the 3rdth be with you day on Fortnite. They were going to be use May the 4th but it is copyrighted.

  6. Can anyone give me a quick forecast for next Saturday night (May 11) for the kids’ Junior Prom?

  7. I want to apologize for any negativity I may have imparted regarding the Bruins.

I’ve been a fan of the Bruins since 1970. My (still) best friend had pictures of Orr et al. in his room. I learned to skate in the winters of 1970, `71, `72 and `73 on a small pond on the Needham/Dover line. Yes, that pond froze over (usually beginning in early December) for a good portion of the winter, though there were a few holes in the ice (we’d sometimes lose the pucks until the following summer when the pond would dry out and we’d retrieve them from the mud). We pretended we were the Bruins.

A true fan stays through thick and thin. No matter what the outcome I’m a true fan. I especially learned to appreciate this mentality while living in Europe and observing soccer fans sometimes see their teams get relegated from the top division to the 2nd, then to the 3rd and then the 4th. What was (and is to this day) remarkable is that the fans remained loyal, at the stadium and cheering on their team no matter what.

    1. You know how I feel about a true fan…Boston is fairly sparse in that regard. You are special to apologize. Everyone gets passionate when it comes to sports and that’s what I read your comments as. ❤️

    2. I always cheer for my teams, no matter what. Having said that, I can’t decide if I’m:

      A. insane
      B. a glutton for punishment
      C. an optimist
      D. all of the above

because I will be in the Garden tomorrow night for Game 7.

      1. You know I have the same philosophy, and while I won’t be at the garden for game 7, I’m not sure which one of those describes me best. But hey, if you’re a fan, you’re a fan, and that means bad and good and everything in between. I hope the Bruins give us some good tomorrow night.

        1. If I really had to name one it would be plain Fan. But C May cover this. And I absolutely know you feel the same.

    1. Wow Joshua. This is an exceptional article. And timely. I’d love to chat with you more on this. Sutton is in the middle of a related controversy

  8. Simply a great moment, as Mick Jagger introduces Irma Thomas on stage in New Orleans (at the Jazz Fest) as the person who first recorded Time Is on My Side before it became a RS hit 60 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlxc3SHLKKc

This tweet from Ronnie Wood contains a clip of him, Thomas and her jazz band playing in New Orleans’ famous Preservation Hall after the RS concert yesterday (it’s also where Robert Plant played last year): https://twitter.com/ronniewood/status/1786333950069059638

  9. I love this car – 1969 Corvette – 4-speed manual transmission, 350 hp V8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiqfcrClSsk

What got me thinking about the late 60s/early 70s Corvettes was that when I lived in Needham (where the pond was I skated on) and waited for the school bus on South Street, I’d see a `69 or `70 Corvette go by. I was just a kid so I asked my Mom for a Corgi Corvette. I still have it to this day.

      1. What a cool memory, Joshua.

So so nice, SClarke. One of my racing friends had a 69. 67 was best year but all are amazing.

A neighbor has what I think is a later year pace car. Oddly, I just messaged him tonight to ask the year.

        1. Neighbor just messaged me. His is an 88. He just went out again and I can hear it’s deep rumble a block away

    1. oh, you saw me. Just kidding.
I had a brand new 1970 mercury cougar, 350 manual tranny. loved that car.

      1. My cars went from a 390 Mach I not stock, a 71/72 GTO and a 73/74 formula 400 firebird. Last two couldn’t touch the Mach I. Still miss that car
