Sunday May 12 2024 Forecast (8:06AM)

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 12-16)

An upper level low crosses there region today with a weak surface low passing to the south. By evening, it’s already moving out to the east. Instability and sun fuel will be limited today so I only expect a few pop up showers later in the day, mainly to the north of Boston, while anything with the low to the south passes well offshore. Monday, high pressure slides off the Mid Atlantic coast and we see milder weather. A warm front scoots through the region Monday night and may produce a few showers. As a result, Tuesday’s a warmer day with dry conditions during the day as an approaching cold front stays far enough to the north and west. This front finally brings showers to the region that night as it moves into and across the region. Medium range guidance has been advertising a slowing down of this front and a wave of low pressure bringing more rain for Wednesday, but recent trends are this taking place further and further south, and based on some recent happenings with models in relation to the overall pattern, I’m going to lean cloudy but not too wet for Wednesday, with more notable improvement for Thursday with drier air arriving. However that day we may have to watch for a pop up shower as we’ll have solar heating and cold air aloft.

TODAY: Partial sun, especially eastern areas through mid morning, otherwise clouds dominate, but sun breaks may return later in the day favoring northern and western areas. A pop up shower possible this afternoon, favoring southwestern NH and northern MA. Highs 57-64, coolest along the coast. Wind variable to SE up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Clouds decrease. Lows 46-53. Wind variable to W up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 56-63 South Coast and Cape Cod, 63-70 elsewhere. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. A passing shower possible. Lows 50-57. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 68-75 except cooler South Coast / Cape Cod. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy early, then mostly cloudy with showers likely. Lows 54-61. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers possible, favoring areas south of I-90. Highs 58-65. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 45-52. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. A possible shower. Highs 56-63. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 17-21)

My outlook here largely ignores medium range guidance in anticipation of some errors that have been pretty consistent, so I lean toward a return to unsettled weather for a brief period May 17, improvement for the May 18-19 weekend which carries into early the following week along with a warm-up.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 22-26)

This period should feature upper level low pressure returning to dominate the pattern with a cool-down and some occasionally unsettled weather.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

ONLY made 54 here yesterday, again!
    42 this morning.

Can we top 54 today? I certainly hope so.

    Ocean temperature: 50,0 (Boston Buoy)

Spring in Eastern MA is BRUTAL in the SPRING!!!!!

    1. I had to work for a 6th straight day yesterday (usually have Saturdays off) but I was doing a fill in and preparing for a mother’s day tea at our place that was going to host over 100 people. Thankfully, I can open the window next to where I work much of the time, and it faces EAST, and let me tell you, that easterly breeze was very welcomed by me. 🙂

I’ll welcome any cool air today too when I do a 2+ hour lawn mowing / cleanup chore this afternoon. 🙂

  2. Thanks TK.

Mark, we landed in San Francisco on the 4th in heavy rain and winds and mountain snow. Winds for the remainder of the day were 20-30 in the gusts and also into Sunday too. The rain did stop mid-afternoon on Saturday. The plus to the storm was that there was no marine layer on Sunday morning, leading to a spectacular view of the Golden Gate Bridge. We then went Muir Woods national park and Alcatraz too on Sunday. The winding roads to the park were crazy with the height and with limited guardrails!

    1. Yikes, sounds like you landed right in the middle of it. Glad the weather improved quickly for you though. The Golden Gate was partially socked in when I was in SF last. You definitely lucked out there. And no thanks to those winding roads with no guard rails! Don’t think I could handle that now as my fear of height seems to be getting worse and worse as I get older.

  3. Thanks, TK.

    Happy Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day sometimes coincided with my mother’s birthday (May 10). So as a very young kid I thought that Mother’s Day was ALL about my mother and that everyone was celebrating her.

    1. My birthday can fall on Father’s Day. I used to love sharing it with him. Today is my oldest’s 17th anniversary as well as Mothers Day.

    1. I remember it well. My daughter and SIL were hosting their 2007 wedding reception at a venue on Cohasset harbor. We decided to have Mother’s Day brunch there in 2006 to test the food, etc. We and others had water dripping on our table from leaks above. Fortunately, all problems were rectified and the reception was amazing.

  4. Thanks, TK!

Happy Mothers Day to all moms, stepmoms, foster moms, nanas and all who fulfill that special maternal role in our lives!

    Thank you! We love you!

  5. Thanks TK! Happy Mothers Day to all. Leaving NYC in some heavy rain that is now fading away – my dad is in a rehab facility on Long Island dealing with post effects of sepsis / he has a long road ahead of him for an 84 year old. Thanks for all the support and prayers from everyone.

  6. Just want to say that in ALL my life of following the Red Sox – so starting in 1970 – I have NEVER seen the Sox have such good pitching. I’ve definitely seen better teams before, both offensively and defensively. But it’s the pitching that really stands out. The weird thing is that there’s not a star pitcher on the staff except perhaps Jansen.

    1. They’re definitely playing better, EXCEPT still not enough S.O.G. … 2 goals on 9 shots is an anomaly against that goalie. They can’t ride the game this way or it’ll implode on them. More shots. Intensity is there. Hitting is there. Defense is strong. Keep it up. Get more shots!

      1. Agree! I do feel they came to play, but they need more shooting. can’t win with just finesse alone.

        1. 23-11 shots with 7 left in the 2nd period is not good enough. We should be up around 20, at least close to matching Florida. I know they have more offensive fire power, but we have to find a way…

            1. Bruins are trying hard and Swayman has been unbelievable.

I just think the Bruins are outclassed.

Good gracious, the Panthers have so much offensive talent.

  7. Agree, Tom. The Bruins are being outclassed.

It doesn’t mean the series is over. Crazier things have happened. But they haven’t risen to the occasion. And maybe that’s simply because of a talent differential.

    1. Florida is a better playoff team right now.

Bruins are not “out of it” but they’ve been playing like they’re out of it. 😉

Well, now it’s win or go golfing. 😉

      1. Florida has a hex on the Bruins much like the Montreal Canadiens did back in the day. No way Florida is going to just give up a 3-1 lead like the Bruins did last year.

        ON TO THE CELTICS!!!

        1. Yes, it’s possible they can give up a 3-1 lead if the Bruins put together 3 good enough games. They’re not incapable of it. I’m not sure why people automatically count teams out when they’ve lost a couple or a few times. They call this a best of 7 for a reason. They’ve played FOUR games. There are up to THREE games left. So, no, they’re not done. They’re not done until Florida has won their 4th game in the series. Might be Tuesday, might be Friday, might be Sunday, might NOT be. You’re not allowed to watch any further Bruins games this season under TK’s “Fairweather Fans” rule. My goodness I wish I could make that a real rule for hockey watching. 😉

            1. HAHAHA!

              Boston fans disappoint me. 🙂

              COME ON GUYS!

              Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
