Monday May 27 2024 Forecast (8:26AM)

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 27-31)

As many of us pause to remember the fallen at parades / ceremonies today, we’ll do so under an overcast with some areas of fog and light drizzle, and a few passing showers which can be around through the middle of the day. The warm front responsible for this will approach the region during the day, but not likely pass by until the evening, at which time a cold front from the west will be approaching steadily. This will send a swath of widespread showers and embedded thunderstorms across the region during this evening, ending from west to east by shortly after midnight. This is slightly faster than the timing I was expecting on yesterday’s update, but still slowly enough that we get through the daylight hours in most of the region before it arrives. Use caution if planning to travel during the evening as visibility will be lowered and there can be ponding of water on many roadways. Behind this system, expect a fair and warm day on Tuesday. An upper level trough will move through the region via the Great Lakes at midweek, presenting a cooling trend and additional shower activity, mainly Wednesday night and Thursday, based on current expected timing. This feature will move along so that we end up with a nice day on Friday to end the month of May as high pressure builds in.

TODAY (MEMORIAL DAY): Cloudy. Foggy areas, patchy drizzle, and a chance of brief passing showers through midday. Widespread showers return to western areas by evening. Highs 65-72, coolest South Coast / Cape Cod areas. Wind SE up to 10 MPH through midday, increasing to 10-15 MPH later.

TONIGHT: Cloudy. Widespread showers and embedded thunderstorms evening, ending west to east overnight. Lows 55-62. Wind S to SW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts possible.

TUESDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 68-75 South coast, 76-83 elsewhere. Wind SW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 52-59. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Sunny start, cloudy finish. Highs 66-73. Wind W up to 10 MPH shifting to S.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Showers likely. Lows 55-62. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy with showers likely in the morning. Sun/cloud mix with a chance of an additional passing shower during the afternoon. Highs 65-72. Wind shifting to NW 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 48-55. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 65-72. Wind NW to N 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 1-5)

We may have to watch for a weak disturbance around June 2 with a passing shower, otherwise most of the first weekend of June looks dry and mild. Another shot at unsettled weather comes toward the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 6-10)

Pattern looking a little unsettled early portion of this period before fair weather returns. Temperatures variable, averaging fairly close to normal.

  1. Good morning and thank uou TK

    made 76 here yesteday.

    Only 60 now.

    Ocean Temp: 58.8 (boston buoy)

  2. Thanks TK
Thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country on this Memorial Day!

  3. It’s mild/warm and muggy down in southeast Mass

Getting a few splashes of sun, both temps and dps are in the 60s. Humid to almost tropical feel.

    1. I’m pretty confident I’ve turned the corner. Now it’s just to rise out of the flare up and back to remission. I’m on my way…

Mom is responding very well to treatment. I think one more day. Release by midweek.

  4. Some areas are going to find themselves with some bonus sunshine, and as a result a few high temps may nudge above my forecast range. I forecast for an overcast sky today. It’s thinning / breaking more generously than I’d imagined it might.

    1. Just reached 70 here with quite a bit if sunshine. fairly humid as well with dps in the lower 60s. 🙂

  5. I didn’t even know Bill Walton had been battling cancer. Sad to see him lose that battle.

His ability added to the talented mid 80s Celtics created the 86 Celtics, 67-15 in the regular season and 15-3 in the Playoffs to win a title.

He and Bird, 2 of the best passers, produced much watch basketball.

  6. One thing you probably haven’t heard, but should of, is the extreme cold this month throughout parts of Scandinavia, the Baltic States and the European part of Russia.

You may recall my talking about this a couple of weeks ago as accumulating snow fell in Moscow during the Victory Parade (marking the defeat of Nazi Germany). It was the first time in recorded history that Moscow had accumulating snow on May 9th.

Here’s a weather report from that period: https://x.com/extremetemps/status/1788541954537422954

Here’s another report from a week later: https://x.com/sizov_andre/status/1791117614325928373

And so while it’s true that more heat records are being broken than cold records, it’s not uniformly warmer across the globe. I do wish the media would present a more nuanced perspective.

Why is the cold in Russia and parts of Eastern Ukraine important? Well, large crop losses estimated at between 10% and 30%, especially wheat. Keep in mind, that Ukraine and the European part of Russia are the bread basket for Europe and other parts of the world. This will have an impact on prices of break throughout the world. Moreover, an already suffering Russian economy -self-inflicted from its senseless war in Ukraine – will be further damaged. Regional state of emergencies have been declared in the farming regions of Voronezh, Rostov, Tambov, Lipetsk and Volgograd.

  7. Out on deck. I love this weather. Breeze and cooler and clouds flying by. Some sprinkled. Not quite enough to chase me in but hid my roam under the table so I don’t kill it.

    1. My daughter is making her connection in Charlotte and departs at 10:Ey are west of the box, so they should be good. Hopefully the heaviest rain is past when they land here at 1am. Late night for Ivy and I.

        1. The fight was smooth and they got in 15 mins early. We hit the torrential downpours on the way there and 1/2 the way back but were fine.

  8. Oh dear. I know he hasn’t been here in a while but happy birthday Shotime. So sorry it took me all day
