Quiet Battle

4:47PM

The next several days will see a quiet battle of high pressure to the north and low pressure to the south. A weak boundary with a disturbance moving along it has really only been able to produce some clouds across western and southern New England during the day Saturday, but these have battled drier air trying to press in from the north and plenty of sun has been enjoyed in much of the forecast area. This high pressure area will win the battle Sunday through Tuesday, and it will press far enough south so that winds that will be mainly north to east on Sunday will turn more southerly by late Monday and Tuesday. By midweek, low pressure will start to win out for a couple days as a frontal system moves in and provides an avenue to bring some moisture into the region. High pressure will again push the unsettled stuff back to the south at the end of the week.

  1. Thanks TK. It turned out to be a nice day with dry air and clouds moving out this afternoon.

    1. The pattern should favor warm/dry. And I sure hope so. Planning a York Beach Maine trip on the 24th…

  2. Thank you TK – wonderful clear blue sky this morning!!!

Any thoughts on weather Fri-Sun around the kennebec river ME? Son will be heading that way for rafting.

    1. Cautiously optimistic. How much does high pressure build in Friday-Sunday and keep low pressure pushed off to the east and south will be the question. The Euro model shows the upper trough “not too far” away out there so always have to watch that.

  3. Thank TK. I’m planning on spray some bug spray on the lawn late morning, but am wondering how long it will remain free of any substantial breeze?

    1. I’d be surprised if the wind gusts above 15 MPH through Monday, maybe Tuesday.

  4. Thanks TK.
Its going to be great the weekend of the 23rd since The Farmers’ Almanac is calling for dangerous thunderstorms and it always seems the opposite happens on what they predict.

  5. According to Barry’s morning blog today, due to a developing El Nino this summer should be cooler compared to the previous two summers. It will be nowhere near the summer of 2009…but the way I figure it, how could it be any worse than that one? 🙂

TK…what are your thoughts regarding the timing of showers for Wednesday? I will have to be outdoors much of the time unfortunately. 🙁

    1. I tend to agree with Mr. Burbank.

Current thinking is showers are more likely in the morning on Wednesday but I hesitate to call for a dry afternoon at this point.

  6. Despite the onshore wind, the temperatures have come up to the middle 70s in Boston. But that may fall during the afternoon.

    1. Agreed Tom! I only wish every day this summer would be like today…maybe just a tad warmer along the coast. 🙂

    2. I agree Tom except I feel as if we’ve said that too many times to count this year. Even in January we had some remarkable days.

      1. Ouch Emily

Matt I had that happen as a very young child and still remember how much it hurt. Ouch for you too.

        🙁

  7. John, I was busy all weekend am finally able to get nonline. I went on the Dawn last October for the 2 night cruise to nowhere and I loved it. Of course it helped that my husband knew a lot of the crew since he is former employee. I heard thatthe cruise director we had is still on and he was fabulous. They had a ton of stuff for kids and it made me want to bring my boys. I do wish they still docked in St. George’s though. I love it there.

  8. Hello everyone Taunton is getting a casino and a water park the size of hurricane harbor at six flags off 495, great news!!

  9. Houses prices are the same as they were 10yrs ago around here, maybe slightly down which is good for growth and new growth, houses in NE cannot go up anymore and there not. Storms Wed!!

  10. Charlie I would say home prices can and will go up but all depends on your location.

Don’t get me started on a Casino, that’s not how you spur an economy. As far as I am concerned it brings bad stuff to your location so keep it away from my area 🙂

    1. Absolutely agree Hadi. As far as home prices increasing, our kids have enough problems to face without having to figure how to own a home that is ridiculously overpriced. It’s the cost of living here that is driving kids away.
