Saturday Forecast Update

10:42AM

High pressure centered over the Canadian Maritime Provinces will  provide fair weather this weekend with ocean-modified air. A wind off the ocean into eastern areas is already pushing some low clouds onshore but these will eventually break up and dissipate under the strong June sun into the afternoon. Enough low level moisture will be in place tonight and Sunday morning for low clouds and areas of fog to become more widespread, with this process to be repeated Sunday night and Monday morning. Sun should burn any of this off easily by  midday Sunday, but may have a little more difficulty doing so on Monday if enough high and middle clouds filter the sunshine. This would take place as warm air started to move in aloft.

By Tuesday and through the middle of next week, high pressure will have shifted to a position off the US East Coast, and this will allow a west to southwest flow of much warmer air into New England. I still hesitate to jump all over 90+ temperatures, but the fact we are now in a stretch of mostly sunny and dry weather is rapidly starting to dry out the top soil and will make at least upper 80s and possibly 90 more possible by Wednesday and/or Thursday. Leaning toward Wednesday as the warmest day now as a very weak front may cross the region early Thursday and introduce very slightly cooler air into the region for that day. Timing of course is not certain this far out anyway, and anything midweek is speculation based on guidance at this point.

For now, the forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southeastern NH…

TODAY: Areas of low clouds moving into coastal areas (and several miles inland) through early afternoon with sunshine elsewhere, then sunshine dominating most areas mid to late afternoon. Another area of low clouds reaching some coastal areas by early in the evening. High 65-75 coast to inland, may approach 80 in a few locations far inland. Wind E 5-15 MPH inland and 10-20 MPH coast.

TONIGHT: Low clouds spreading east to west, areas of fog forming. Low 53-58. Wind E under 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Low clouds and fog burning off by midday then mostly sunny in the afternoon. High 65-75 coast to inland. Wind E 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Low clouds & areas of fog return. Low 53-58. Wind E under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. High 68-78 coast to inland. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 59. High 83.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Low 66. High 88.

THURSDAY: Partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Low 66. High 85.

FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Low 68. High 86.

  1. Next weekend should be cooler once again as a cold front comes through late Friday with thunderstorms and put an end to the brief heat wave. Hopefully the front will be strong enough to do so. 🙂

    1. I think it will be a heatwave midweek if we change the definition of a heatwave to 3 or more days of 80+ instead of 90+. 😉

  2. Looking at the visible loop for the last several hours it’s really a relatively small area where the clouds dominate, but it’s also where the majority of the population is. 😉

  3. Not sure if this is an error, but the NWS has 98 for Boston on both Wednesday and Thursday…

    1. How is the baby doing Hadi and how is big brother liking having competition? And most important how are mom and dad holding up?

      1. We are all doing well!! Big brother is behaving for the most part :). The little guy has been angel about sleeping!! Thank goodness 🙂

        Thanks for asking!

  4. NWS has Boston for 100 on Thursday…yikes! :-0

Compared to what is in store for Wed-Fri, today for me was a top 10 day albeit a bit too windy and cool for BBQ. However, a woman in my neighborhood was barbequeing and did it smell good. She had franks, burgers, and chicken cooking…yummm. 🙂

I should have asked her….how soon will dinner be ready? lol. 😉

TK…are you finally going to drink the kool-aid and have 90-95+ for the entire Wed-Fri timeframe like the other mets? 😉

    1. Not a bad idea…I should pick up some kool-aid at the store before the heatwave arrives. Coincidently, I am all out of it. 🙂

  5. The mets are touting Wednesday as the first day of summer, but according to my wall calendar, it is on Thursday. ❓

I always trust my wall calendar. 😉

    1. Solstice is 7:09PM on June 20, making that the first day of summer by definition. But one can also argue that June 21 is the first full day of summer.

  6. Be interesting to watch when that front approaches next Friday. If it comes during the peak heating of the day then we could get some pretty good boomers around here.

  7. Cousins high school grad party in West Roxbury today and clouds dominated by noon. Ended up moving the party inside, too cool and windy for an outdoor BBQ especially with granparents and such. Disappointing day IMO, felt like late march/early april

    1. Hahaha. I’m a grandparent and have been sitting on the porch until a few minutes ago. Actually I just found out today I will be a grandparent for the fourth time come next feb 26ish. 😀

      1. Haha, sorry Vicki, didnt mean to generalize 🙂 G-parents and g-aunts n uncles at the party were well into their 80s and even a couple 90s, some are either sick or sensitive to cold and wind. Congrats on being a g-ma again! I feel like u are still young to be a g-parent, although, my mom just turned 63 and keeps telling me she wants g-kids and that shes not getting any younger!

        1. And she should have them! Us 63 yr olds have to stick together. I do understand that cold gets harder for elderly:)

    1. Did you all have the clouds that we saw when we were in Wellesley? I was surprised they came that far inland. I still marvel at the difference a few miles makes.

    1. Echoing Vicki’s wish for all the dads!

Philip… See above for my reply about the 1st day of summer in case you missed it up there.

      1. Thanks TK. Happy Father’s Day to you as well and all the other Dads here! What a nice day already outside.

  8. First heat wave lets go. 90s second half of the week. 🙂 This will warm up my pool just before the party 😀

  9. The heat wave will peak on Thursday with temps mid-upper 90’s…ouch! 🙁

Thanks TK…I saw your response regarding the first day of summer. I also would like a response from you regarding Wed-Fri temps. I believe that 90 for Friday is possible if no clouds even though mets have now back-tracked on 90+ temps. Quite frankly, I see no real difference between an 88 and a 91 for instance as far as my personal (dis)comfort is concerned. 😉

    1. I am getting closer to 90+ Wed & Thu as the top soil is drying rapidly! I was paying close attention the last few days out there.

Friday is a question, because of the timing of the front. Some guidance hints more and more about progressive flow and a faster solution which could possibly get this front through here on Friday morning, so if it was “hot” day it would be a hot & dry one with a little chinook action if it were to clear out quickly. It could also be one of those days (if the front was slow) that is muggy and unsettled early then very warm & drying out. The timing of that cold front will have a big impact on the actual weather that day. 5 days to figure it out though. 🙂

  10. Happy Fathers’ Day to all the Dads’ out there.
Reading the discussions from the NWS impressive CAPE values for Wednesday if that cap could be broken but that does not look to be the case. If that front comes through early on Friday the severe weather threat is very low but if it comes during the peak heating of the day with sunshine then keep an eye to the sky.

    1. Since I don’t like thunderstorms then I will be rooting for the front to come through early. Even if it will be hotter like TK suggested, then it will at least be less humid. 🙂

  11. Happy Father’s Day to all !

We pretty much had the run of the beach on the Cape yesterday. I was surprised by how quiet the area down there seemed. Anyhow, despite the coolness, I found the south side water (Nantucket Sound) to be mild. However, when we got to the north side and Cape Cod Bay’s waters, that was still cold !

Nice to see the sun today…..I think given that the highest temp at Logan this month has been 79F and lately it’s been in the low 60s, I wonder what 95F with higher humidity is going to feel like on Wednesday and Thursday.

    1. Happy fathers day Tom. We just spent some time in your area and were suprised how quiet Humarock was. It’s either the rocks or cool breeze or both. The waves were great. The traffic home was moderate to a few stop and go spots but heading south on 3 was bumper to bumper. No idea where they are all going mid afternoon Sunday

      1. Thanks Vicki. Yes, aren’t the waves great….we had dinner up in Brant Rock Village and walked over to the beach afterwards and my kids played at the water’s edge a bit, running from the waves after they had crashed. Fairly quiet in Brant Rock too. With the sun out today, I didn’t mind the coolness of the air. Very pleasant.

    2. Happy Father’s day Tom. Hope you had a good day and that the weather was sunnier than yesterday for you!

  12. Off to Chicago for two days tomorrow. Highs of 94 and 94 there according to Weather.com and then back to possilby another 94 and 94 here for Wednesday and Thursday. Here’s to hoping for a cooler less humid weekend like this one next weekend!

      1. Thanks. This weekend weather was great if you were far enough away from the coast. Was the shore cloudy today likme yesterday Vicki?

        1. We were there from 11-2 and it was sunny. The breeze isn’t as strong here today so it doesn’t feel as cool. This is probably my favorite weather.

      1. I’m 5’6″! You’re 5’3″. I don’t think it’s going to make much difference. 😛

  13. Is it possible Logan’s above normal monthly temp streak is going to end and yet…the month that does it may have a day that hits 100F ?

With regards to Thursday……a hot day preceding it….likely leading to a high launching pad Thursday morning, a very warm airmass, the ridge overhead surpressing cloud development and the full 15 hrs and 18 minutes of the highest angled sun possible of the year to cook away. Should be interesting.

      1. there is no humidity and no clouds with a slight breeze becoming calm . I bet some fog might form and as of the middle of the week. I am hoping it is a heat wave of 90 or higher. It will really get my pool even warmer than it all ready is. My family was planning to use the patio area tonight and fire up the new grill we got for my dad and also use the pool but its kind of chilly so he would not go in 🙁

        1. Philip other than the fact I love thunderstorms and you do not I’d say we have the exact same view of the weather. The word comfy came immediately to my mind also 🙂

  14. By radar, there appears to be 5 different tornado warnings on the storms in western Minnesota and southeast South Dakota.

  15. TK, looking a disorganized Bermuda low sort of tracking NW. Could NE be in for some clouds and showers?

  16. Ok who was the person here who told me the kennebec is calm for rafting so not to worry about my son??? Just kidding I just talked to him and he said it was great except hed do the Penobscot next whatever that means. He said they release the dam on kennebec four times a year and this is one of the four so on a scale of 1-5 it’s rated 4 but he still thought it could have been better. Good grief 🙁

  17. My husband is watching the US open innsan Francisco. The fog all day has been heavy and everyone is wearing jackets and saying they are cold. But my husbands brother lives in Moraga which is just inland from San Francisco and said it is to be in the 90s there today. Seems we are not the only area with weather differences in areas not far apart

      1. They sure do. I love the area. Wouldn’t live ther since earthquakes scare the you know what out of me but sure do enjoy visiting. However both of our nieces are totally fascinated by boston and plan to attend college here

          1. By reading up I meant I responded to the latest comment first and then scrolled up and saw yours Acemaster

  18. That fog has been very eerie out there at the open. Ive been glued to the final round, the 17 yr old ameteur just finished the tourney. He had a rough day but has a great future ahead of him.

    1. We are watching behind since it recorded. He amazes us He’s able to bounce back which many pros can’t do. You are so very right that he has a great future ahead.

      1. Zhang the 14 year old amateau is charming and the other amateur who finished at 7 over wasn’t really covered enough

  19. After reading JJs comment and Hadis I read about marine layer and wouldn’t you know one of the pics they had was the fog surrounding the golden gate bridge. Interesting info. Thank you both for prompting me to look further.

  20. For those model readers, is the meteocentre site working for you folks? I can’t get it to load, and it’s rather annoying.

    1. Just saw Hossler finish. Sad he isn’t low amateur. Great march for all amateurs I will go on record saying Johnny milled irritates me to no end.

    1. I’m hoping my roommate will fast forward enough to have open ended by then so thought I’d thank you now 🙂

  21. After ready Barry’s evening blog, I am getting the feeling that June will end up quite a few degrees below normal temp wise in spite of the brief hot spell this upcoming week.

Last June had below normal temps as well and then you all know the rest. It will be interesting what will follow in the coming months.
