The Week Ahead

10:36PM

High pressure northeast of New England will keep the region marine-air-modified for one more day before slipping off to the south Tuesday through midweek, allowing a southwesterly flow and a building upper level ridge to throw summer into the area, right on schedule! Heat will build especially Wednesday and Thursday, with some record high temperatures being challenged especially Thursday. Thursday night and Friday morning, a cold front will cross the region (going with quicker timing at this point). This will dry the air out and cool it down very slightly on Friday and a little moreso over the weekend as an elongated upper level trough moves into the region.

  1. Looks good to me 🙂
Just a few alterations from my forecast, but I seem to be in your general ball park.

      1. Mac was saying that it is an incredibly difficult course – far more so than Augusta. I like to see the higher scores – gives them all a challenge.

    1. Thank you John. Please wish your wife a very, very happy day as well. Happy Father’s Day to you also – was hoping to see you here yesterday. Hope your day was fun!

  2. John/TK, I drove through Pembroke the other day and saw a guy with a hot dog stand at the herring run in rte 14. The name on the hot dog stand says topkat. Are you guys in business together? 🙂

    1. As far as I know, I’m not selling hotdogs in a stand in Pembroke, but I wonder if Nathan’s Hot Dogs were named after my son…

  3. Happy Birthday, Vicki! And John, Happy Birthday to your wife, too!

I hope all the fathers here had a great Father’s Day. It was another beautiful wknd. and it looks like summer will pay us a brief visit for the middle of the wk. Looking forward to that.

  4. recorded a low of 44 degrees last night hopefully we do not get anymore chilly nights. 🙁 my pool lost so much heat lows i think this time of the year should be in the 60s.

  5. Happy Birthday to Vicki and John! Looks like TK is giving you both the gift of nice weather for the week! Tomorrow I have the pleasure of volunteering at the Flutie Foundation Golf Tournament at the Pine Hills in Plymouth. Looking forward to a nice day on the golf course!

    1. Thank you Sue – and what a great day you have planned for tomorrow. My husband ran into Flutie at a local golf store a year or so ago and said he is an incredibly down to earth person and ended up chatting for quite a while with my husband about clubs and shoes and golf. His foundation does so much good and brings even more awareness to autism than it might otherwise receive.

      1. I volunteered at this event 2 years ago and it was great. Everyone from the foundation, including Doug, put so much work into this tournament and appreciate the little work that the volunteers do. So happy it is going to be a beautiful day for it.

  6. Sorry…I just realized it is John’s wife that gets the birthday shout out. Happy Birthday to your bride John!

      1. Isn’t that they day you board the beautiful Norwegian Dawn. Not that I am jealous or anything. 🙂

        1. Sure is. Sue do you think we will be happy with this ship. The pool has me nervous on its size with a full ship.

  7. Hey TK, why so low on Wed/Thurs temps? Unfortunately, I don’t see any way to escape 95-100 degrees both days, except for the Cape as always. 🙁

Your Friday’s temps, however are right on target. I am looking forward to another nice, cooler weekend. I guess I can handle a two-day heat wave, lol. 🙂

    1. Thank you – it sure is a nice day! It took quite a while for the clouds to break this morning but once they did the temp rose to 75 and it’s just beautiful!

    1. Thank you!!!

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes – you are all very thoughtful 🙂

  8. Both the GFS and EURO continue to show a lousy end to the month of June. Bring on the “heatwave”.

    1. Don’t worry, at one point both models had a big closed upper low just south of New England for this weekend. That’s not going to verify, and I bet the end of month doesn’t either.

      1. Well I think one thing is for sure, after Friday, we won’t hit 90 again this month. Not sure how far into July we have to go to see 90 again.
Also I did notice the 00z runs were less robust with what the 12z runs were showing.

  9. My one caveat for Wednesday is shown on the EURO, quite a bit of clouds being shown. While the NAM goes 95-100 in most places with sunny skies.

  10. I really wonder what those who live in the eastern third of New England are going to think of the heat Wednesday and Thursday. It would be one thing if the temps had been seasonal to this point in June, however……..

Only 5 of June’s 18 days have had temps higher than 70F in Boston.

Of the 13 days that have not, 9 of them have had highs of 65F or less. (courtesy of Taunton NWS climate data)

Feel like we have had the same weather for a long while ? May’s avg monthly temp at Boston was 60.3F. To this point in June, it has been 61.3F and after today, that may go down another tenth or two.

  11. Just checking in. I must say I have absolutely loved this stretch of June weather. So rare to have beautiful 65-70 degree days back-to-back, and it has happened several times this month. I know that the HHH days are coming, at least two of them. But, my hunch is that we are in for a cool summer weather pattern overall. Sort of the flipside of this past winter. In this case, HHH days will be followed by a cooling pattern that lasts longer than it `should,’ followed by a few hot days and then prolonged cooling. While I was not OK with the winter pattern (SE ridging) of a few cold days followed by prolonged stretches of mild temps, I am perfectly fine with the general pattern of having that powerful High to our Northeast reestablish itself each time this summer.

    1. Hi Joshua – nice to see you here and it has been a great stretch of weather, hasn’t it 🙂
