DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 15-19)

The temperature and dew point had an overnight meeting, resulting in fog in many areas. Other areas that didn’t fog in may see a blanket of low clouds to start the day, while sun was already visible at sunrise in some spots. The most extensive cloud and fog area at sunrise resided just inland from the eastern coast and had its western limit about where yesterday’s sea breeze stopped progressing inland. Any fog and low clouds will burn away by mid to late morning, leaving us with a sunny midday and afternoon. The coast will be coolest today as an onshore wind evolves, but overall it will be a mild to warm day. High pressure delivers late summer warmth and fair weather Monday and Tuesday. It is at midweek when we finally see enough give in the high pressure area to allow low pressure, and some of its wet weather, to move up from the south. This will bring some increased wind and an episode or two of rain to parts of the region, favoring southern areas. The best chance time window currently appears to be from Wednesday evening to midday Thursday. I’ll fine-tune this in upcoming blog posts.

TODAY: Areas of fog / low clouds early to mid morning, then mainly sunny. Highs 75-82, coolest coast. Wind variable up to 10 MPH, mostly E to SE.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Patchy fog interior lower elevations. Lows 51-58. Wind variable under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 78-85. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Patchy fog interior lower elevations. Lows 52-59. Wind variable under 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 78-85. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 54-61. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Potential rain South Coast by late-day. Highs 68-75. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Potential rain, greatest chance South Coast. Areas of fog. Lows 58-65. Wind E 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Chance of rain in the morning, favoring the South Coast. Highs 65-72. Wind NE 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 20-24)

Similar pattern continues with some blocking in the atmosphere. High pressure from eastern Canada delivers drier, cooler weather early in the period before sinking to the south and allowing a warm up mid period, then potentially giving with a wet weather chance from the south late period.

DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 25-29)

Wash / rinse / repeat .. same pattern delivers another cooler push from Canada that then gives way to later-period warm-up.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK

61 here this morning. no fog, no cloud bank, at least not as of this hour.

What a stretch of beautiful weather. September is the best.

    1. We were totally fogged in here. It was just inland, basically the I-93 belt westward to the western limit of yesterday’s ocean breeze. That set up a swath of higher dew point air that was more easily met by the overnight temp.

  2. Thanks, TK.

The fog reminds me of the Netherlands where it is often a daily occurrence in autumn and this can linger on through winter. Riding my bike to school – 7 mile commute – in the early 1980s, I remember going through clouds and mist, along pastures where cows and sheep were grazing. When there was no wind all you could hear on the bike path was the sound of the old-fashioned friction dynamo generators powering the lights on the bikes. Hundreds of bikes would pass by as well as some mopeds. Everything was orderly. We stayed in our lane, passed on the left, stopped for all bicycle-specific traffic lights. It was my introduction to a new world, a wonderfully different one shrouded in fog.

  3. This is one of the better examples of why we should find out actual causes of things instead of just making assumptions or default into the same labels over and over without fully researching. There’s a very good reason to apply the scientific method to everything and use all the available information. Failing to seek all available information, and even more so, selective omission of known facts are big no-no’s.

    1. Even as early as grade 6, we spend a couple days on how graphs can be misleading.

We focus on the impact a really poor interval can have, especially on bar graphs.

But, we also focus on graphs that are mislabeled or don’t have enough info, leaving them open to misinterpretation.

      1. They can be. I’ve even seen graphs with great info be very poorly put together and somewhat to very misleading.

  4. I’ve lost count on how many sunny days we’ve had in a row.

I know a big stream in Marshfield is very low and I think I went over the Charles River ?? on 128 past Dedham yesterday and it looked fairly low.

    1. If it was Dedham, it was the Charles River and yest, it is fairly low. I have seen it lower, but it is definitely low. 🙂

      1. I was at a Dr appt a few weeks ago. Its office sits beside the river in wellesley. It wss flowinf but not as I have seen in the past. Our small ponds and swampy areas are very low

This sfc spin is probably still a regular low, but I wonder if it gets some tropical characteristics before it moves ashore. Certainly a lot of convection with it now (link 2) can help that process begin.

    1. My brother is in Hilton Head and may end up with better weather than the apps were telling him, because of that low, actually. 🙂

      1. Charleston has a high tide warning causing possible flooding. But then flooding is not new to them. I don’t know the elevation of Hilton head or if high roses will impact them

  6. Joe Castiglione is retiring. I’m happy for him, but saddened by the news. I’m one of a dying breed who prefers listening to rather than watching baseball. We’ve been blessed in Boston with some of the best radio voices around like Ned Martin (who also did TV) and Joe Castiglione.

  7. What a spectacular Sunday. My son, daughter in law and grandson stopped by, and we sat outside for several hours.

  8. Patriots brought game two to overtime, patriots been surprising so far, they are what they are with Jacoby, They are a run team that has good weapons of the Oline gives them enough time to get open.
    Things that need to improve
    1. Oline in passing game
    2. Need to rearrange the wide receivers, Douglas should be seeing more time, thorton shouldn’t be on the field.
    3. Offense is to predictable, need more play-action which they should be able to do plenty of with how good our running backs are. They shouldn’t be Pass heavy and then run heavy, need better play calling.
    3. Passing defense had holes today, I don’t know why they where playing so much off the line in this game.
