Low Lifts Out, Summer Drifts In

2:10AM

Low pressure will move away from New England leaving behind a westerly flow and more summery weather for the next several days. The region will find itself on the edge of a large area of hot weather to the south and west, and the only chance of wet weather will be from a few showers and storms associated with weak disturbances moving through, which will be hard to time.

Forecast for eastern MA, southern NH, and RI…

TODAY: Partly cloudy. High 80-85 except 70s Cape Cod. Wind W 10-20 MPH.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Low 60-65. Wind WSW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. High 85-90. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 67. High 89.

SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 68. High 88.

MONDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated thunderstorms. Low 66. High 84.

TUESDAY: Sunny. Low 65. High 83.

WEDNESDAY – INDEPENDENCE DAY: Partly cloudy. Low 65. High 83.

    1. Humidity will be highest on Friday & Sunday, driest Saturday. Probably 65-72 dewpoints Friday afternoon and upper 60s Sunday, lower 60s Saturday.

  1. Hi Longshot…. A great way to know whether the day is going to be humid is look at the overnight low temperatures. When you see those lows in the 50s or lower that is a dry airmass and the humidity will be in the comfortable range. When the lows in the lower 60s your going to feel the humidity a bit. Lows in the mid 60s or higher the day is going to be very humid to oppressive.
Thunderstorm Index at a 1 tomorrow since I don’t think we see severe weather should storms fire.

  2. The forecasts I have seen are for the humidity to be near opressive levels all weekend. However, those levels will lower somewhat next week including the 4th.

  3. The problem is there will not be a strong front coming through to completely wipe out the humidity but rather weak ones that brings the humidity back to a tolerable level. I hate when the term cold front is used during the summer since the air behind it is not cold but rather air that is less humid.

    1. I agree with you on that Jimmy. In those situations, there should be a different term used when only dewpoints are the issue and not temperatures.

Maybe TK can come up with one if there isn’t one already. 😉

  4. From everything I see, there is humidity this weekend but I just can’t tell how much. Or how oppressive will it be on a “1-10 oppressive scale?”

  5. Longshot – tomorrow and Sunday will be the most humid days. Saturday will be a bit drier. Also note that the dewpoints will tend to lower a bit each afternoon as the temps get hotter but that is not much consolation with the temps in the low 90’s away from the water each afternoon!

      1. Im going to cut the grass tomorrow so i can lounge by the pool all weekend. I have not been in my pool yet.

          1. Same here. We actually are having some problems with the pump and or circuit breaker as it keeps blowing on us. Having our electrician come out hopefully this weekend to see if there an issue with the line first.

    1. Thanks Mark. I was looking at the “dews” too and hoping for a little relief. Not a humidity hater but I do take long walks everyday and it’s better when it’s drier. Have to take the early am walks.

  6. Home 🙂

Kind of amazing, even for late June thru early to mid July, to see the intensity of heat that will be baking so much of the Country. Makes me think there’s an opportunity to see an excessively hot day locally sometime in the next 2 weeks if the jet stream lifts occasionally in the northeast……I found Harvey Leonard’s temp forecast for our area tomorrow interesting. He had 97 and 98F in central Mass. It was near 100F in Chicago earlier and in the mid 90s in Detroit.

      1. It was fun. Got to Canobie Lake Park early in the week and with the cool, cloudy weather, it was empty…so the kids had no lines to get on rides. We ended up staying there for nearly 7 hrs. Good week overall, with a variety of weather……heat, thunderstorms, ending cool.

For tomorrow, the common theme from the 6pm weather casts seemed to show hotter temps central and western Mass because they might have more hrs of sun, once tomorrow’s weak morning disturbance passes. Tomorrow’s temps should be interesting to watch, it is so hot to the west of New England.

  7. Hi all!

I’m heading over to Trum Field in Somerville for a fireworks display.

I’ll address any questions/comments and update the blog when I return later this evening!

      1. Me three as my dad would have said. But it’s been a wonderful summer day. I’m on the porch and it’s still 70.

        1. Today was definitely a Top-10 day! Maybe we get another one day next week. Maybe on the 4th? 🙂

    1. rise the highs into the middle 80s or higher and keep the lows in the 60s and low 70s thats what i think is good for this time of year. 🙂

    1. Matt we haven’t had mosquitoes since the beginning of spring when we had tons and then we had those few frosts. Although they found west nile in mosquitoes in Roslindale ? yesterday. It’s about 3 weeks early to be finding it.

  8. Showers (thunderstorms ?) seem to be strengthening a bit in north-central Mass. Feels humid out there.

Will be looking for consistency from the EURO in future runs…..this morning’s 0z run has a parcel of extreme warmth breaking away from the Midwest and baking New England next weekend (July 7 and 8). It has a quick shot of 850 mb temps btwn 20 and 22C !!!!!!!!
