DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 3-7)
High pressure will be in control of the weather most of the time through the weekend, with the only interruption being a rain shower chance early Saturday from a passing cold front. This front will replace the warmer air of the next couple days with slightly less warm air during the weekend. Another cold front will pass by early Monday with upper level low pressure trailing it, so Monday will feature a better shot at wet weather early, albeit fairly brief as it stands now, but the chance of an additional shower popping up with a cold pool of air arriving aloft.
TODAY: Patchy radiation fog early, otherwise a sun/cloud mix. Highs 68-75. Wind S up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Patchy fog. Lows 51-58. Wind S under 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 71-78. Wind S up to 10 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 55-62. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Variably cloudy with a chance of rain showers until midday, then mostly sunny. Highs 68-75. Wind SW 5-15 MPH shifting to W.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Patchy fog. Lows 50-57. Wind W up to 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 65-72. Wind W up to 10 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Clouding up. Lows 55-62. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Cloudy with rain showers likely in the morning. Variably cloudy with an additional rain shower possible in the afternoon. Highs 62-69. Wind S 5-15 MPH shifting to NW.
DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 8-12)
Passing disturbance brings a brief rain shower chance around October 10, otherwise generally dry weather and below normal temperatures are expected with an often northwesterly air flow out of Canada.
DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 13-17)
Brief unsettled weather threats in a predominantly dry weather pattern. Increasing chances of significant chilly air from Canada and first frosts / freezes in portions of the region.
Thanks TK !
Chilly morning.
Its often taught/mentioned that earth is 93,000,000 miles on average away from the sun. This is equivalent to 1 astronomical unit.
Its an average because in early January, earth is 91,400,000 miles away and around Independence Day, its 94,500,000 miles away.
According to 2 astronomical sites I follow, today is 1 of 2 days that earth is 93,000,000 miles away.
Currently, earth is moving around 25,000 miles per day closer to the sun.
Of course, someone living 15,000 years or so from now, the earth will be closest to the sun at the summer solstice, summer will be the shortest season of the year (around 89 days) and winter will be the longest. Imagine how long it will be cold in New England then. ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐
I’ll take, ackong nap, so wake me up in 1500 years.
Lol ๐
Good morning and thank you TK.
50 here this morning. I don’t think wechave been underc50 yet.
We had a string of 40s earlier. One morning was 41. And have been back in the 40s for three days. I think it was Ericโs tweet a week ish ago that said this is latest to drop below 50 for Boston.
Couldnโt find Ericโs but found this from Wankum

A little chilly out there tonight but still no temps below 50 since May 13. That’s a record 142 days without dropping below 50 in Boston. Info courtesy: NWS Boston
Thanks, TK!
Can you believe we’re already halfway through the first marking period already? Getting my grades ready for progress reports! Today is School Day 22!!!!
Brisk in the Boro this morning!
Its crazy, isn’t it?
Hope its been a great first month !
It has been, Tom.
I have mentioned to several people that I have found that the joy has returned to teaching after several extremely difficult years.
How about you, amigo?
What wonderful news. I wish you both and all teachers a special year
Thanks Vicki !
Oh yes, the joy is there for sure !!
Age is creeping in a bit more, so I feel much more exhausted than in the past.
That’s what will have me stepping away from classroom teaching sooner than later. I’d like to sub or Title 1 tutor after retiring and won’t miss meetings and all that other little responsibilities outside of the classroom that take a toll over time.
Thanks TK
Thank you. TK
We hit our low of 43 at 6:18 and didnโt reach 50 till 8:36. We are currently 61. Lovely October morning
Low here was 50. currently 67
If I remember correctly, the “lowest” low last winter was 18 degrees. I know for a fact that we did not get into the single digits once.
I think at my location, we made it down to 14 one morning in Jan or Feb. But that was it!
We never had a deep ground frost here. My SIl never blew out our irrigation system. He got lucky
We are still in the Critical Level of EEE here in Middleborough. Our school’s sports have to be off the fields 30 minutes before sunset which is earlier and earlier. Our varsity football game was played last Saturday morning. The football team plays its first Friday Night Lights tomorrow (we had three straight home games) but away in Sandwich which does not have EEE restrictions.
I heard Eric mention a frost next week but I think that’s in the western New England (east sloping Berkshires) and not here in SE Mass.
Scary ……..
Well, as soon as I posted above, I went to wbz.com and found that the EEE restrictions have been lifted!
Boston โ The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) today announced that the risk from Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) is no longer considered high or critical anywhere in the state. Communities previously at high or critical risk are now at moderate risk.
This change affects the towns of Douglas, Dudley, Harvard, Northbridge, Oxford, Sutton, Uxbridge, and Webster in Worcester County; Carver, Middleborough, and Plymouth in Plymouth County; and Acton, Ayer, Boxborough, Concord, and Littleton, in Middlesex County.
Ahhhh I read up again. That is excellent news. Iโd still like a hard frost.
Adding. It doesnโt hurt to still be cautious. It just takes one.

Captain …… I mean, Hurricane Kirk.
Looks impressive. Good thing it is a FISH storm. ๐

Next Wednesday and Thursday morning projected temps around 4-5am from the 12z GFS
Close, but NO CIGAR!
Interesting that I can now load pivotal weather.
Weโve been close to those temps for here. Would love to see 30s. Would absolutely love to see a hard frost or two. We are having a Halloween festival on sutton common later in the month. TK was a huge help with the new fireworks company. They were willing to add a clause to the contract that if the EEE threat is still in place that we can cancel/postpone without penalty.
My plan is to go to the SNE Weather Conference and then to that event after it. ๐
Awesome. Hopefully will see you there.
12Z GFS run total precip. Just a wee bit of rain for Florida

Thank you JJ.
My Weekend/Tropical Update is now available:

Thanks!!
Enhanced chances of aurora tonight and tomorrow night. Check your favorite sources for updates!
A little bit of high cloudiness may be a minor hindrance tonight.More cloudiness may be coming in tomorrow by late in the day, but if it’s battling some dry air or is a bit later than expected, with an earlier evening potential aurora peak they may end up visible anyway. Always hard to “forecast” this phenomenon in detail, only when the chances are higher vs. lower. We’ll see how it goes…
Happy Rosh Hashanah to all who are celebrating today!!!
Hope you’re having a special day with family and friends!
May the New Year bring health, joy and peace to us all and our world!
L’Shana Tova!
Iโd like to join Captain in wishing all who celebrate a Happy Rosh Hashanah
Shanah tovah!
JJ. Ryan mentioned thr 1979 tornado.
