Sunday October 13 2024 Forecast (12:33AM)

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 13-17)

A frontal boundary draped just south of the area will struggle to move northward as a warm front today and tonight as low pressure approaches from the west. The passage of this low will take it along the frontal boundary, south of much of the WHW forecast area, as the warm sector may only barely get up into the region from the South Coast to the MA South Shore early Monday before the departing low pulls the boundary south and east. Rainfall will be most widespread north of I-90 on Sunday and then more showery in nature across the region Sunday night into Monday before it dries out. Behind this comes the coolest air mass of the season so far for Tuesday and Wednesday, along with blustery conditions. This eases Thursday as high pressure builds in with more tranquil but still cool conditions.

TODAY: Cloudy. Periods of rain, most widespread near and north of I-90. Highs 55-62. Wind E up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Cloudy. Areas of fog. Rain showers likely. Lows 48-55. Wind E to SE up to 10 MPH may become variable or S to SW along the South Coast.

MONDAY: Cloudy start with rain showers likely, then rain showers diminish as clouds break for sun at times. Highs 55-62. Wind variable becoming NW and increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.

MONDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 33-40. Wind NW 10-20 MPH. Wind chill below 30 at times.

TUESDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 53-60. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 30-37, except 38-45 urban locations. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 53-60. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 28-35, milder some urban areas. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Sunny. Highs 55-62. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 18-22)

High pressure brings fair weather through mid period at least, with a gradual moderating trend. Unsettled weather may return by period’s end.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 23-27)

Pattern looks fairly dry and seasonable heading deep into the month.

  1. Thanks TK. Remarkably we are at Sunday River and it’s colder right now in JP than here.

Played a round at Sunday River yesterday and it was spectacular and somehow my 15 year old in a blink of eye is better than myself or his FIL.

    1. Set my alarm for 6. Woke up. Saw clear slot east. Said “don’t hit snooze”. Got up. Waited. Someone’s tire fell off driving by the area. Made sure they were set. They were. Just have to wait for somebody. Was a work van of some kind. Walked to nearby school. Took pics. Many pics.

      It. Was. Awesome.

      1. Fabulous shots.
We now have a batch of “false mammatus” visible here. They occur when precipitation (moderate intensity) falls from mid level clouds and evaporates rapidly in much drier air just below. The conditions are perfect for that. They give the appearance of mammatus you see on the undersides of some cumulonimbus anvils, but they are not exactly the same thing.

    1. Cool.

Due to unfavorable conditions, Agnes leveled-off slightly in intensity and weakened to a minimal hurricane while approaching the Gulf Coast of the United States.

Credit to Wikipedia. Something in common with Milton.

      1. Yes. Milton had weakened significantly, and actual analysis showed a hurricane that was very likely CAT 2 at landfall. It was sheared to shreds and the eye was over half exposed by landfall. That storm was in bad shape, relative to how healthy it was just 24 hours before.

      1. Nice to see that after we freeze most of the week, there’s hope for 60s and maybe 70F next weekend. I’ll take that ! πŸ™‚

    1. Ensembles hint at some disturbances to watch, but nothing definitive.

      It’s pretty quiet for now.

We may see one more up-tick, but for the most part, the rest of the season … meh … as far as I can tell.

  2. Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS will be best visible, weather-permitting, during the coming several nights. Western sky, evening twilight / dusk. I’ll be adding that to my ever-growing collection of photographs.

  3. I’m not sure I can stress enough how much I loved taking a walk in the rain around my local pond this morning with a temp sitting at 45. Absolutely beautiful autumn morning with the rain coming in so soon after that incredibly stunning sunrise. Went to visit my mother right after my walk with fresh clean laundry for her. πŸ™‚

    1. I for one never like walking in the rain. I don’t mind walking as snow is falling though as long as it’s not too deep underfoot. Even as a kid I never had the desire to intentionally plunge into a deep puddle.

Hope your mother is doing better these days. πŸ™‚

      1. She’s doing OK. They are keeping her longer due to the introduction of a new medication and the need to monitor and potentially tweak. New target release is later this coming week. She developed some bothersome pain also in her right hand that is theorized to be either a pinched nerve, a strained muscle, or an arthritis flare-up. That’s a new thing, so we’ll see how that goes today.

    1. Oh,I do remember that tune. I like it, But I couldn’t say I was a fan seeing as how I didn’t even recognize the band name, just the song when I started playing it. Good tune. Thanks

  4. Still in the middle to upper 40s from the North Shore back to central MA. November feel, October look.

Logan has made 50. The South Coast is “warmer” and will stay that way with the frontal boundary easing up into that region. The warm sector doesn’t get far though.

    More below normal chill upcoming!

CPC originally had our region in “above normal” for temps for this coming week (Oct 12-16). That is not going to verify.

In comparison, this was my 11-15 day forecast from October 2:

    DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 12-16)

Brief unsettled weather threats in a predominantly dry weather pattern. Increasing chances of significant chilly air from Canada and first frosts / freezes in portions of the region.

    1. I remember that. May be chilly, but not unusually so. πŸ™‚
I’ve seen it this chilly and chillier these dates many many times before. No big deal.

      1. If it’s not setting a record, then it’s not unusual, because it’s been there before. That’s the way I look at it. πŸ™‚

I’d just like some reasonably not-too-cold weather for our big Halloween Parade on Oct 27, which is the Lions Club largest fundraiser for eye research of the year. My uncle used to be the president, then a cousin of mine was. My neighbor has been president, and one of my classmates. πŸ™‚

I’d also like some nice weather on Halloween itself as I will be guiding an autistic child on his trick or treat journey. πŸ™‚

  5. Hotham ski resort in Australia is closed for the season. Happened 3 weeks ago. It was not a great year for snow there, only a total of 185 cm, which is about 72 inches, well below their average. Last year’s total was considerably better as I recall.

    1. While they had fairly seasonable winter temperatures there, they were quite dry in the region with only about 65-75% of the normal winter precipitation. Hence, low snowfall for some of the ski areas.

  6. Thanks TK.

TK – Vertical Horizon is one of my favorite bands and I have seen them many times, most recently at the City Winery in Boston last October. The lead singer Matt Scannell is from Worcester and his uncle happened to be the sitting at the same table we were at. I am seeing them again in Albany on November 10 but they going to be very close to you on Friday Nov. 8 at the Blue Ocean Music Hall in Salisbury and at Aura in Portland on Nov 9. I’d check them out if it works with your schedule…they put on a great show!

  7. The Patriots’ 1 minute of competent play – and it was an excellent TD pass by Maye – will likely turn out to be just that. Pretty much the entire rest of the time the team has looked like the dregs of the league. In some ways, I’m lucky I’m very busy with work today. It means I don’t feel I can invest my time in the team, which wouldn’t deliver much ROI anyway.

I am looking forward to the Mets-Dodgers series, which begins tonight.

  8. There have been some good moments in that Pats game today despite the poor plays. I’ve seen some glimmers of hope mostly surrounding Maye. This is no magic fix, but it is certainly a potential slowing of the downward coast. They’ll get better again.

    1. Agree. And on that TD it sure looked as if his heel touched out of bounds for a split second. But I get that it is questionable.

    2. Well, I’ll say this much: They certainly have something in Drake Maye. I think he has a substantial upside. Now IF they can only get a team around him.

  9. I have hope but also this team has a long way to go.
    Lets start with the good.
    1. Maye looks like he is the future. Composed, able to throw the ball down all across the field without it looking like he is hurting himself for anything pass 10 yards. Good decision making and anticipation.
    2. Henry, Douglas, KB, and Boute can be a decent group and add Stephenson back there again as the main running back, this team could go places.
    Now the bad.
    1. Coaching needs to be greatly improved
Discipline and fundamentals need to be instilled in these
players it bit them several times in this game.
Play calling for offense needs to greatly improve, you had
two texans defenders on the outside out of the game, they
should have exploited that more often. Gibson is now a power running back so they needed to stop playing him like that, pull a fullback type player and let him run behind him or pitch him the ball to the outside.

    2. Defense, which is suppose to be the strength of this team is anything but a strength. I really feel like this comes down to coaching as well but also the players. There are injuries but even last year after injuries the Pats defense was still very good acknowledging how bad the offense was.

Overall I saw some hope but until I see the need to major improvement in the coaching and disciplined playing, Yes there where times in this game that the Patriots got messed with by the referees but there where many others in which it was a penalty and they deserved them.

  10. If current scores hold, 7 out of 10 NFL games (so far, before tonight’s) will have been won by the road team today.
