Tuesday October 15 2024 Forecast (7:34AM)

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 15-19)

A dry pattern is in control. Cool weather dominates through Thursday. Atlantic Canada low pressure combined with Midwest high pressure drives a northwesterly breeze across the region today with plenty of sun overall, but some diurnal cumulus and stratocumulus developing, most prominent in the hills well west and north of Boston, while some streamers of high clouds cross the sky from the west southwest during the afternoon hours. Previously felt there could be more clouds Wednesday, but no longer so. High pressure exerts more control while the influence of upper level low pressure is gone sooner, and there is more sun, similar to today at “worst”. Thursday’s weather will be influenced by an ocean storm well offshore to our southeast, but close enough to turn the wind more northerly, and also extend a cloud canopy over the South Coast / Cape Cod for a while – though I do think any rainfall with this low will remain over the ocean. High pressure exerts more influence late this week along with a moderating temperature trend.

TODAY: Sunny start, then a sun/cloud mix. Highs 51-58. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 30-37, except 38-45 urban locations. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Sunshine dominates while a few clouds mix in at times too. Highs 51-58. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 32-39, milder in urban areas. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Sun dims south and east, brighter north and west. Highs 52-59. Wind N 5-15 MPH, 15-25 MPH over Cape Cod.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 31-38. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, diminishing.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 58-65. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 38-45. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 61-68. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 20-24)

Dry spell continues until late period when there’s finally a threat of some unsettled weather. Temperatures near to above normal through mid period before a cooling trend.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 25-29)

A more dynamic pattern may evolve, but that doesn’t necessarily mean stormy. It may mean more stark temperature contrasts and at least one bout of unsettled weather. Much to monitor and fine-tune.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

39 here this morning, only tying the low for the season, which we also hit last week.

I, for one, am NOT impressed by this “cold”. ๐Ÿ™‚
routine October Weather. Sometimes it’s warmer and sometimes it’s colder. Just the way it goes. no big deal.

btw, for those that don’t know, in the weather department
it takes some doing to impress me.

    1. Love your anthem !!

Yeah, I sure can understand this not being cold for many.

I’ve gotten more and more sensitive to both hot and cold with each passing year.

      1. Hey, that’s what makes the world go round. I was just out with a long sleeve jersey and once again, it was perfectly comfortable for me, yet I can’t stand to be the slightest bit
cold even cool in the house! Weird, but that’s the way it is. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Article suggests that the hikers being rescued in the White Mountains are leaf-peepers. I have questions. https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/2024/10/14/nh-officials-urge-hikers-to-practice-personal-safety-as-foliage-reaches-peak/?p1=hp_featurestack

In my experience, Columbus Day weekend is kind of a last hurrah to hike for many (myself included). I’m not sure if leaf-peeping is what they’re after. The 33 year old woman the article features was rescued after she climbed Mt. Lincoln. Could she have hiked up that mountain to leaf-peep? Well, it’s possible, but doubtful. I’ve climbed it many times. There’s little or no foliage above 4,000 feet. The mountain’s summit is ~5,100 feet above sea level. Between 2,500 and 4,000 feet there’s some but it would all be past peak by now. There’s some foliage from the trail head to 2,500 feet, though you won’t – can’t – see it from the trail! I think the solo hiker just wanted to take in another hike. Unfortunately, she injured herself on the way down. For more on Mt. Lincoln, with photos: https://peakery.com/mount-lincoln-new-hampshire/

  3. Btw, I have NOT worn a jacket outside yet this season. not once. ๐Ÿ™‚
I was out yesterday with a long sleeve jersey and was perfectly comfortable. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Sounds about same for me. With very rare exception I donโ€™t wear a jacket all winter. Iโ€™m just thinking now of switching from short sleeve tees to long sleeve. Outside a sweatshirt works.

  4. We dropped off our Mail In Ballots yesterday.
    2 votes for maintaining DEMOCRACY!

This election is NOT about Democrats vs Republicans like a typical election. It is about Democracy vs Fascism, make NO mistake about it.

    What does fascism mean?

from Contemporary History and Democracy & Government

Many experts agree that fascism is a mass political movement that emphasizes extreme nationalism, militarism, and the supremacy of the nation over the individual. This model of government stands in contrast to liberal democracies that support individual rights, competitive elections, and political dissent.

In many ways, fascist regimes are revolutionary in nature. They advocate for the overthrow of existing systems of government and the persecution of political enemies. However, such regimes are also highly conservative in their championing of traditional values.

And although fascist leaders typically claim to support the everyman, in reality, their regimes often align with powerful business interests.

    1. I totally agree with you.

I’m mystified at how much support Trump and Vance have nationwide, after all that we know. I am about 90% sure Trump will win, unfortunately. It’s a reason for me to be actively inquiring about emigrating. I love America, its flag, its customs and traditions. It’s a beautiful country with some great people. But it has been rapidly changing since 2016 in terms of level of incivility, intolerance, nativism, isolationism. It’s really disturbing.

I’ve seen autocrats in action in person during my visits to Eastern Europe in the 1980s but also Viktor Orbรกn’s Hungary recently. Alarming is an understatement. I’m in close contact with folks negatively impacted by autocratic rule in Russia, Turkey, Belarus, and elsewhere.

In full disclosure, I am not a Democrat. Never have been. I’ve voted for Democrats, Republicans and even a few independents.

      1. Even if he doesnโ€™t win, he has a plan in place where he can throw the vote to the house and then Supreme Court which of course he has packed. And it could very well work

And on that note I will move back to weather. .

      2. I am more than mystified. I am dumbfounded!
If he were to win and we were younger, we’d be out of here!
If he wins, frankly I don’t know what we would do. We are too old to move anywhere, let alone out of the country.

This is all part of the Dumbing down of America. I can’t believe the STUPIDITY of many Americans. They will get more han they bargained for….

To Vickie’s point I surely Hope the current administration has a plan to thwart the efforts of the MAGGOT republicans to overturn the electoral vote should Kamala Harris win. (contrary to Joshua’s opinion, I do believe Kamala will win. It is what happens after that?????)

    2. I will drop mine Thursday. I know this is not a political blog; and TK if you want, please remove. Iโ€™ve voted for more republicans in my life than democrats. A couple I have been sorry I voted for. But never was I once afraid for our democracy. I can honestly say I am terrified now.

  5. I’d describe this week as crisp, but not cold. It’s about as normal as it gets for October.

By the way, I do ABSOLUTELY love this weather. It is God’s gift to New England. We sometimes endure difficult stretches of weather, from sometimes extreme cold in winter to the volatility of spring to the heat and humidity of summer. Then the weather gods often give us a relatively tranquil period in which there’s abundant sunshine, the beauty of fall colors that no place on earth can match and few if any extremes.

    1. Yeah, I see that, Hadi.

We had grubs in our lawn in late summer that destroyed half the grass. Our lawn guy replaced the l damaged lawn last week and told us it has to stay wet to grow.

I looked at the long-range GFS last night and there’s not a drop of rain insight till Halloween!

  6. Joshua, letโ€™s wait until Wednesday November 6th before giving Trump the โ€œdictatorshipโ€. The race is virtually tied, at least according to all the polls. I see no reason why Kamala canโ€™t pull it out. Sheโ€™s not exactly Ross Perot if you will.

The fact that Trump wonโ€™t debate her or have interviews on the same news outlet as her is TELLING!

This is NOT 2016!!! Hilary just got cocky. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. So, I tried to vacuum today and the vacuim cleaner wouldn,”t work. So I slapped a Patriots logo on it and it started sucking right away!
