DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 16-20)
A trough at upper levels and surface high pressure to our west will give us basically a repeat of yesterday’s weather – breezy, cool, a sun/cloud mix. Tonight, with a clearing sky and wind dropping off as high pressure builds over the region, radiational cooling allows many inland areas to drop to near to below freezing for the first time this autumn, though it won’t be quite as cold in urban centers and along the immediate coastline due to warming influences of buildings / cement / asphalt in urban areas and the “warmer” ocean water adjacent to the shoreline. Also, a blanket of stratus from the ocean may invade Cape Cod and adjacent southeastern MA into parts of RI during the pre-dawn of Thursday with a light northeasterly air flow in those areas. Our weather Thursday through Sunday will be governed by a large area of high pressure. Thursday and Friday will still be on the cooler side with a north to northeast wind, enhanced in eastern and southern coastal areas with an ocean storm well to our southeast. This storm, despite the distance of its low pressure center from our area, will push its high to middle cloud canopy at least into southeastern areas for a while during Thursday to early Friday. The largely mostly clear to clear evening sky forecast the next several days is good news for viewing of Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, which appears slightly higher in the west southwest sky about 45 minutes after sunset each evening until it sinks to the western horizon.
TODAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 52-59. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, gusts 20+ MPH.
TONIGHT: Clearing, except some low clouds from ocean southeastern MA and parts of RI. Lows 27-34 except 35-42 urban centers / oceanside. Wind N diminishing to under 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Sun most abundant north and west and more limited south and east. Highs 53-60. Wind N-NE 5-15 MPH EXCEPT 15-25 mph Cape Cod region.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Clouds linger southeastern MA / mostly clear elsewhere. Lows 33-40. Wind NE-N 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 55-62. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 38-45. Wind W up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 61-68. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Clear. Fog patches low elevations. Lows 42-49. Wind W under 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 65-72. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 21-25)
Dry spell early to mid portion of next week with near to above normal temperatures. Watch for a disturbance or two passing by later in the week with an unsettled weather opportunity.
DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 26-30)
Slow evolution of a more dynamic pattern but the overall weather is still on the drier side here with a little more pronounced temperature swing potential and more wind potential.
Good morning and thank you TTk

Just remember, this is the GFS at 16 days out.
The chances of this are about nill. š
However, it is getting to be that time of year.
Forget 16 days from now, here is Killington, VT now!!!!

Thanks, TK.
JP Dave, what a shot of the comet! Thanks for posting.
My son loves taking photos. I think he could have had another career. Thank you.
Thanks TK
Thanks TK. Vicki, I just saw your post and hope you’re doing ok and everyone for that matter.
Thank you. I am practicing being a pirate for Halloween. Everything is fine. I canāt see closeup very well yet so have no idea what Iām typing.
Hope all is doing well for you also.
Your typing looks fine to me Vicki. Hope your eye gets better soon. š
Will your eye patch be ājust a costumeā for Halloween or technically still be necessary?
š Iāve been dictating but this is my first time typing. Iām already seeing better. Patch now only needs to be worn for a week while I sleep
Thanks TK
Thanks TK.
Thanks TK. Low of 39.
Up to 50 here now.
Could any of you give me a recommendation for what you think are the top 2-3 brands for a home weather station. I know these can change around at times. Any recommendation will help. Thank you.
My personal recommendation would be for Davis Instruments.
For one, their sensors are more accurate than most.
I know some might like AcuRite. but I was NOT happy with mine and I got rid of it for Davis.
But this is just my experience. Others will have a different experience.
Whatever you do, look very closely at the accuracy of the instruments.
For example, Davis Instruments thermometer sensors are
accurate to +- 0.5 degree F
AcuRite is +- 1.0 degree F
and others are even worse than that. Be careful.
Thank you
I have a small acu rite that I like. I did not like my larger unit. If I were to get another, Iād go with Davis also based in your experience. My Wi-Fi here stinks so it isnāt worth the $$. I love my kestrels but they require me to take in and out. Being retired I sure have the time
Agree with Dave on Davis, itās a good middle ground and versatile brand. I had the Vantage Vue for many years, my folks still maintain it for me in Wrentham š
Keep in mind that no matter how good your instrument, getting good data out of it is really all about station siting, at least when it comes to wind and precipitation. If you donāt have a nice open area to put it, it will under-report both, common problems with many home weather stations including mineā¦
Thanks TK. Dry, dry, dry.
General observation on the tropics: The long range GFS/GEFS did a really good job sniffing out both Helene and Milton in the 8-14 day range. Those systems had some similarities in their origins.
However, it tried to go for a three-peat with another similar type system coming out of the Caribbean, and that appears to have been a total ghost. It got me too, not that I was āall inā per se but figured if it had hit on two in a row you had to give it some respect at least. And many social media-rologist types were already hyping up āHurricane Nadineā. NHC does have a yellow X down there but I think they were fooled as well and that X is just a relic of several days ago when the GFS had been showing a much stronger storm.
Not really inferring anything from this (other than itās always better to have multi-model support!), just an observation š
WxWatcher. Love your opennessā¦.absolutely love it. I believe it was two of our local Mets who or got also. Itās why I was surprised by discounting the gfs more recently ans now I understand why. So maybe two out of three aināt bad???
Thanks, TK.
Thanks, TK…
40 outside, but 55 inside this morning! It hurt me so, but I had to put the heat on when I woke up to get the chill out of the house.
Going to try for the 2024 Celestial Trifecta tonight. I got photos of the April eclipse, last week’s Aurora and, hopefully, tonight’s comet.
I was too late last night.
I came inside five minutes before my neighbor caught the comment. Tonight, Iām going to be armed with a fire and a hot toddie or is it toddy. I had not thought of it as thr trifecta and absolutely love it.
A couple of things some responses from yesterday’s comment.
1. Unfortunately, I have to choose between not having to pay taxes and voting. If I stay as the USVI being my location in the US, I don’t have to pay taxes as if I changed it to Massachusetts. So I won’t be able to vote. I want too, but financially I need to think about it
2. As someone with a disability, the first time he got in, I will be honest, I cried. We gained so much under Obama, there was so much progress and since then so much of it has been wiped out by dumb MAGA people. If you support trump in my opinion, you support evil, you support everything that this country is supposed to be against. You support racism, bullying and thinking those with disabilities are less of a human being. You are anti-science. You are either dumb and gullible, or you are also evil. These people are ruining this country. Is the left perfect, not by a long shot. I been getting tired and pissed off by both sides for so long that I distance myself from the news while I was down in the Caribbean.
3. I will admit part of my equation of deciding to go to Australia is due to the uncertainty here in the United States. My field is already being influenced by the threat of trump and his goons. Fish and Wildlife, national park, and NOAA has all fronted grants. IE if you have a grant that you would usually have gotten over x amount of time, the PI’s have gotten it all at once. There are other instances such as the National parks in which they have created “accounts” and out sourced the funding to other groups, to protect the funding and money for research, and other aspects of their works. Unlike the other organizations like NASA, Fish and Wildlife etc, NOAA is not protected by congress/senate. Trump with a stroke of a pen can disband it and then can go to the courts and destroy everything.
4. Now to the less doom and gloom, Parts of northern New England have seen some good amount of snow on the slopes. Stowe has gotten about a foot. It does though look like we are going to go into a warming trend eventually. Hopefully not a harbinger of things to come though.
Thanks TK.
