DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 10-14)

High pressure moved overhead last evening, shutting down the winds of yesterday but setting up a night of radiational cooling under a clear sky, with very low dew points. Except for urban centers and some immediate oceanside locations in the 30s, the region saw temperatures fall to the 20s. Today will be a cool but tranquil day as high pressure overhead gradually slides to the east, keeping the pressure gradient weak, which keeps winds light. You’ll notice an irregular increase in high and patchy middle clouds in response to the approach of a low pressure area and its warm front. This front will bring the chance of some rain to our area tonight, but amounts look meager, and a cold front that quickly follows it as low pressure passes to our north early Monday puts an end to the rainfall threat before mid morning. Despite the second boundary being a “cold front”, as is often the case, it actually ends up warmer for the daytime tomorrow than it will be today due to differences in the current air mass vs. the air mass behind that front, which will be modified from warmer conditions to our west and supported by a down slope influence of a westerly wind off hills / mountains to our west. So while breezy, much of Veterans Day turns out quite nice. It won’t be until early Tuesday when a trailing disturbance sends another cold front through our region that we’ll have a legitimate shot of colder air arrive, along with plenty of wind. This will be a dry frontal passage, and the continuation of overall dry weather, low dew points, and frequently active wind will keep fire danger high again especially this day. High pressure builds into the region Wednesday with another chilly but more tranquil day as winds relax significantly. I’ve been eyeing an unsettled weather threat for Thursday, and it should come as no surprise that trends in reliable guidance are for this system to be smaller, weaker, and further south, and dry weather here.

TODAY: Sun becoming interrupted at times by more clouds during the day. Highs 46-53. Wind calm to SE under 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Clouds consolidate. A period of rain likely, with some fog patches. Temperatures steady evening, rising slightly overnight. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY (VETERANS DAY): Cloudy with a chance of rain showers early, then a sun/cloud mix. Highs 60-67. Wind W 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

MONDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 37-44. Wind W 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

TUESDAY: Sunny. Highs 51-58. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, gusts 25-35 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 32-39. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Sunny. Highs 45-52. Wind N to variable up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 27-34. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 46-53. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 15-19)

Minor precipitation threats are limited to mainly disturbances in a northwesterly air flow with an otherwise mainly dry, seasonable pattern.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 20-24)

While longer range guidance hints at some high latitude blocking, I don’t see this as a flip to a stormy pattern, but a continued fairly dry one with a tendency for more chilly weather. Will monitor potential pattern evolution, of course.

  1. An upper-end M-class solar flare this morning (this is just a shade below an X-class flare, which are the strongest type and the type that caused the October 10-11 aurora). The most recent flare increases our chances of seeing the aurora especially Tuesday and Wednesday.

    1. Not sure I remember this. I do remember having 4 or 5 inches here around Veteran’s Day somewhere around that year?????

    2. Great memory. Thank you, JJ.

I believe this is your uncle’s Angel Day. I’m sending hugs and wishing you special memories ❤️

  2. Just north of Lynn / Saugus and with the SE breeze, the air is filled with smoke. Air is almost not breathable. There could be a little smoke from western fires mixed in, but I think most is from local fires.

    1. One of the local stations had a night photo and it was a photo that looked like it belonged in the western US.

    2. We could smell smoke here in JP last night. Don’t know if from Lynn or if there was something going on more local.

  3. Thanks, TK…

Brush fires are an issue down here, too. Norton had Route 140 blocked yesterday because of a fire near Wheaton College. Norton has had a brush fire nearly every day this past week. Two firefighters were injured in Mansfield on Friday when a large tree branch fell on them fighting a fire. And Route 95 in Attleboro was a mess during the Friday afternoon drive because of smoke.

  4. Question. I have a small propane fire bowl that I use on my deck. It does not give sparks. My thinking is it is much like a propane grill. I called the fire station but it is closed till Tuesday. Any thoughts on whether it is safe to use!

    1. Close call. Our complex brought the BBQ grills in a week early even though we have gas lines and very little chance of igniting a fire. Precautionary.

  5. Can’t say the Pats played a stellar game but they certainly played well enough to win. As long as the Pats remain patient, Drake May has a future.

      1. Basically the only mistake he made. He was very good today. He’s a rookie. Trust me, he works on it, every week. The kid needs a chance to develop and could use a better support system. 🙂

I think it’s more important to focus on the fact they forced the Bears to punt 8 times and sacked their QB 9 times.

        1. Maye played well. Even elite QBs throw interceptions. I just hope they remain patient. You cannot turn around a team overnight. I liked what I saw today.

        2. Don’t get me wrong it was not an insult towards him as I think he’s going to be a great QB In this league. I’d just like to not see an interception every game , but he will get there

        3. I agree. I hope he has the support system top down that has been missing in the patriots. And agree also with Longshot. You cannot turn a team around overnight. Patience is key.

            1. I keep meaning to let you know that if your company does other surveys, I have always enjoyed participating. And incentive is absolutely unnecessary

  6. Maye is showing that Maye and Daniels ( Commanders qb) are the two best rookie qbs. Is Drake Maye throwing interceptions, yep, but look at all that he is doing and with what he has. I have hope for next year if the front office does their part. Hey at least our Oline is not as bad as the bears oline. There are pieces in the patriots oline we just need to find players to fill the gaps and have depth. Oh and for got sake a player that can fight for 50/50 balls when it matters.
I was impressed with today’s game, I wouldn’t want to be a bears fan.

    1. Oh and interestingly there was a short Margarita sitting on the table. No clue where it came from but can’t let it go to waste.

  7. Maye will be just fine. He’s a smart, tough young QB. He needs pieces around him and that’s going to take several years to build.

My Commanders have been good but will falter down the stretch. Daniel’s has been nothing short of special but we also have a terrible OL and an awful defense.

Sorry JJ but love seeing the Cowboys in a hot mess.

  8. Said it last week. Repeat here. Didn’t agree with CPC’s above normal temps for this week. Still don’t. Near to below after today – the only “warm” day.

    New post…
