Sunday January 5 2025 Forecast (7:22AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JANUARY 5-9)

Our cold and dry regime goes on. A westerly air flow continues today, and shifts a bit more northerly tonight into Monday as a low pressure wave going by to our south alters the pressure gradient and resulting air flow. This low will be “close-but-no-cigar” in terms of bringing some snow to the region, passing harmlessly to the south with the maximum impact being a few tiny snowflakes reaching the ground along the immediate South Coast. Behind it, a renewed and more northerly wind will transport more cold into our region from Canada through midweek. It is during this period when some snow showers can migrate down from the north in response to an upper level disturbance moving through.

TODAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 27-34. Wind W 5-15 MPH with gusts over 20 MPH.

TONIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 12-19. Wind NW to N up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: A cloudy start – thickest clouds South Coast where a touch of very light snow is possible, then thinning and decreasing clouds midday on. Highs 25-32. Wind N to NW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 11-18. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 23-30. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 8-15. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. A possible snow shower. Highs 24-31. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Isolated snow showers. Lows 10-17. Wind N 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Scattered snow showers. Highs 22-29. Wind N 10-20 MPH. Wind chill below 20.

DAYS 6-10 (JANUARY 10-14)

Dry to start the period, and again to end it. The January 11-12 weekend bears watching for a potential snow threat as low pressure passes by to the south, but at the moment I lean toward a graze or a near-miss from the system. Temperatures below normal.

DAYS 11-15 (JANUARY 15-19)

Colder than normal with mainly dry weather, but watch for a few snow showers and perhaps one possible snow threat at mid period.

    1. The 06z ECMWF will correct itself.

I don’t expect the GFS to correct itself for a couple / few / several more runs. We’ll see on that.

  1. I would feel better if all three (GFS,EURO and CMC) were all on board. As of now it is 2 out of three.

18Z GFS had it big time. 0Z GFS had it OTS and then the 6Z GFS had a big storm back.

0Z Euro had it for the first time last night.

    CMC = NOPE

What oh what will the 12Z runs show.

Anyone have access to the 6Z Euro?

  2. Tropical Tidbits does have the 6Z Euro, but i have no idea when it will be available for 6Z on 1/5, ie today’s run. Presumably later this morning??????

  3. Not that I trust Sydney Welch on CH 10, because I do not, but
she had on her 10 day “possible snow” for the 11th. 🙂

    1. Well, there is “possible snow” on January 11th.

But a lot of people will read that as: “guaranteed blockbuster snowstorm”.

In fact, I have possible snow on the weekend of the 11th & 12th, but you saw how I worded it.

      1. yes, I lnow. I certainly know possible does not equate to certainty.

FWIW, 0Z UKMET has an OTS solution. That right there may be a huge clue.

I don’t want to wait until the 20th or beyond for next snow chance.

  4. Thanks, TK

A Taunton low of 25 degrees this morning, a tad warmer than the -35 minimum this morning 121 years ago.

  5. Thanks Tk , chilly leaving for work this morning . I’m rooting for a pats loss & fans to boo the coach the entire game , yes I want Mike bad !

      1. Seems like a great guy to be around but as a head coach he is totally lost & 100% unqualified & to think that there is a chance Kraft keeps his is beyond insanity. Mike vrabel would be an immediate upgrade & he knows how coach & he can keep the team more disciplined, right now the entire team is lost . We can’t have a rebuilding year every single year . Clean house & spend money

        1. I agree it is time to clean house, but booing Mayo just isn’t right!! and I agree with TK that it would be 100% CLASSLESS!

          1. I don’t think Mayo was given a fair shot with such limited talent to work with, but even saying that, I tend to agree with SAK’s recent assessment that it’s time to clean house and start anew.

Patching things up in the post Brady era isn’t working.

We have a great future QB – but that’s about the only bright spot.

        1. Because it’s a terrible model beyond 4 days. It’s really not good.

It may have a better run (this run), in fact I think it very well may, but I don’t expect it to be consistent to the most likely scenario yet. More flip-flopping ahead.

Watch the GFS long enough and the biases loudly reveal themselves. The problem is a lot of those biases result in solutions that are fantasy scenarios so folks just get caught up in wishing it’s right, and it ends up posted on social media.

          #MeteorologyNotModelology

I’m going to use that phrase to death, but apparently it’s going to be necessary.

            1. It says that a full phase is unlikely.
It says that SNE is missed by the southern low and receives a lighter snowfall from the northern energy.

  6. Thanks, TK.

I turned to whw after a lovely joint epiphany church service in Natick (online for me) and saw 50 comments by noon. I had an initial hope it meant our storm for this week might be back in the picture. Sniff

  7. I promised a commentary on the 1974 Top 40. Here it is in its full length version!

    40. Everlasting Love ~ Carl Carlton
This was an rhythm & blues favorite of mine when I was 7 years old, before I knew what r&b was. I just liked the song – HAHA. This tune is one of the precursors to the coming disco era, as it has elements of disco within its r&b structure. Short song at barely over 2 1/2 minutes, but infectious.

    39. Help Me ~ Joni Mitchell
Joni is one of the all time greats, not only as a songwriter, but one to pave the way for so many others to come, especially women, but really anybody, given how many singers overall have covered her material. “Help Me” defines the sound of female singer/songwriter of the 1970s. Interesting tidbit. This song comes as track 2 on the “Court & Spark” album, with “Free Man In Paris” as the track that follows it. But I discovered that if you set up the tracks on 2 sources (YouTube for example) that can slightly overlap, and you play “Free Man In Paris” first, if you start “Help Me” on the last note of “Free Man In Paris”, the songs melt into a medley in the same key and tempo. Try it! 🙂

    38. Tell Me Something Good ~ Rufus
Yvette Marie Stevens, aka Chaka Khan, stars in this track, exactly 10 years before her huge hit “I Feel For You”, which of course is on the Top 103 of 1984 that I posted. 🙂

    37. Takin’ Care of Business ~ Bachman-Turner Overdrive
BTO is most well known for its “Southern Rock” sounding anthems. Southern … not USA. They’re Canadian. Randy Bachman is more of a musical genius than many people know. If you dive deep into his catalog and step outside just “the hits”, the songs are pretty awesome. I’m a huge fan of his work in “The Guess Who”, along with Burton Cummings.

    36. Tin Man ~ America
I’ve seen America 4 times in concert. Great live act. The two most prominent original members continue to be part of it. Dewey Bunnell once said, “As long as you keep coming to see us, we’ll keep coming to play for you.” Side note: On America’s Christmas album, “Holiday Harmony”, the song “White Christmas” sounds very similar musically to “Tin Man”, but it works wonderfully! “Tin Man” has some interesting lyrical phrasing in it that was always intriguing to me as a kid and even now.

    35. Can’t Get Enough ~ Bad Company
Their first hit, featuring Paul Rogers on lead vocals. Paul would also be a member of Free, The Firm, and of course, Queen.

    34. Seasons in the Sun ~ Terry Jacks
This one is often considered a “Lost 45”, which of course comes from the name of the radio show by Barry Scott. “Seasons In The Sun” was written for the Beach Boys originally, but Terry ended up recording it and it was his only major hit. He had moderate success with his wife Terry Jacks as The Poppy Family.

    33. The Show Must Go On ~ Three Dog Night
Classic. This is one of countless songs that makes me think of my brother.

    32. Another Saturday Night ~ Cat Stevens
Considered the folky singer/songwriter, Cat Stevens, later Yusef Islam, fit the label perfectly well. He has given us some very memorable tunes.

    31. Rikki, Don’t Lose That Number ~ Steely Dan
My brother was in a band that performed many Steely Dan songs, including this one, which I heard done in my basement many times. After an unusual intro of a brief flapamba solo by the great Victor Feldman, it becomes a classic rock song with jazz influence woven throughout. The use of Victor Feldman was the first step that Steely Dan took into transitioning from originally a 5-piece rock band to a 2-member studio act utilizing the best players available in music.

    30. Dancing Machine ~ Jackson 5
This one speaks for itself and is a nice preview to MJ’s solo career ahead.

    29. Star ~ Stealer’s Wheel
A little known song, but probably their second most well known song behind “Stuck In The Middle With You”. The immense popularity of “Stuck…” makes many regard them as a one hit wonder. While Joe Egan performed the lead vocal on “Star”, which peaked at #29, their smash hit “Stuck In The Middle With You” featured a lead vocal by Gerry Rafferty, who had several solo hits, including the incredibly popular “Baker Street” which stood up quite well along side the chart dominating Bee Gees hits (and other songs that Barry Gibb wrote that were big hits) in 1978.

    28. Waterloo ~ Abba
Let’ s write a song that equates my personal struggles with Napoleon! I love Benny Anderson. And I love ABBA.

    27. Then Came You ~ Dionne Warwick
A “kitchen radio” song that makes me think of getting ready to go to school in the morning. This was performed with The Spinners as well.

    26. Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me) ~ Reunion
Another favorite of Barry Scott on The Lost 45’s. It features a fast-rap vocal style by Joey Levine. You hear similar vocal styling on such songs as REM’s “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)”, and Barenaked Ladies “One Week”. “Life Is A Rock…” was covered very nicely by Tracey Ullman in 1984. Tracey of course had her one big hit “They Don’t Know” which was also on my Top 103 of 1984 list.

    25. When Will I See You Again? ~ Three Degrees
With the exception of the first lines of the song “Ha-ah, hoo-oo, precious moments” (which repeat again at the intro to the bridge of the song), every line of the song is written as a question. Sheila Ferguson, the lead vocalist, in her own words said she “threw a tantrum” when she had the song introduced to her and was asked to sing it, because she felt it was too easy. Later, after the major popularity, she admitted that “he knew more than me” … “He” being Kenny Gamble, yes of Gamble & Huff. Yup, I think he definitely knew what he was talking about. 🙂

    24. Jazz Man ~ Carole King
This song is way up on my list of all time favorites. Another great singer/songwriter. You’ve heard her songs performed by other people numerous times, probably not knowing she was the writer. Look it up sometime. You’ll be surprised at how many songs she wrote that you didn’t realize she wrote. 🙂 This song though, my favorite by her – a “goosebumps” song. The chord sequences, the melodies, the arrangement, the performance. It’s a perfect combo for my musical brain.

    23. Rock Me Gently ~ Andy Kim
I hearby coin (or re-coin) the phrase, adult bubblegum pop. As cheesy as this song is, it’s a damn good pop song, and once you hear it, you’ll be guilty of spontaneously singing it out of nowhere. 🙂

    22. Country Dreamer ~ Paul McCartney and Wings
This is one of those forgotten songs, as Paul had so many hits over the years, post-Beatles, that this one kind of fell through the cracks. Do yourself a favor. Rediscover it, or discover it for the first time. It’s a great tune!

    21. You’re 16 ~ Ringo Starr
This song would probably go down as “creepy” now, but Ringo was simply covering a favorite, written by The Sherman Brothers and first made famous by Johnny Burnette in the early 1960s. It’s a catchy tune and falls into the “mom’s kitchen radio” category.

    20. Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe ~ Barry White
Let’s face it, Barry White was the king of date music in the 1970s. Ironically, my favorite song he’s associated with didn’t feature him on vocals, but was an instrumental called “Love’s Theme”.

    19. Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo ~ Rick Derringer
Honestly, I’ve never really been a fan of this song. Sorry. 🙂

    18. My Mistake Was To Love You ~ Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross
This is a good song, but not way up on my list from the decade, or the year.

    17. Rock Your Baby ~ George McCrae
I’ll admit it. I love the song, but it kind of reminds me of some random dude getting on an elevator (playing elevator music) and he just starts making up lyrics to it and singing along. 🙂

    16. Rock On ~ David Essex
Good, but I always felt it was a little overrated.

    15. Hooked On A Feeling ~ Blue Swede
This is one of the worst 3 songs of the 1970s. Give me the BJ Thomas version ANY DAY.

    14. Bungle In The Jungle ~ Jethro Tull
A big favorite of J.T. and in general! Reminds me of my brother too.

    13. You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet ~ Bachman-Turner Overdrive
Nobody can touch this song. The only person who can purposely stutter like that and not screw it up is Randy. There was a remake of this song some years later that cheated and used tech to create the stutter, and it sucked – badly.

    12. I’ve Been Searchin’ So Long ~ Chicago
Classic 1970s Chicago ballad. It’s not my favorite song by them, but it’s still damn good.

    11. Nothin’ From Nothin’ ~ Billy Preston
This song is AWESOME! A big, big favorite!
Billy Preston was the “5th Beatle” near the end of their run, playing organ and piano on some of their tracks, and even participating in some live performances.

    10. I Shot The Sheriff ~ Eric Clapton
This is one of the first songs I think of when I hear the label “classic rock”.

    9. You Haven’t Done Nothin’ ~ Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder is one of my all time favorite artists and this song is up their on my Stevie list. It was a protest against the Nixon administration and featured the Jackson 5. Whether or not you appreciate the song’s message, it has an infections grove and features a signature clavinet sound common on Stevie’s mid 1970s records.

    8. Whatever Gets You Through The Night ~ John Lennon and Elton John
This great song makes me think of my brother, of course.

    7. Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me ~ Elton John
A favorite. Bernie Taupin nailed the songwriting here.

    6. Harmony ~ Elton John
This is an epic album closer for the double album “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. A goosebump song.

    5. Rock The Boat ~ The Hues Corporation
Early summer 1974. An overcast, drizzly day with a light wind off the ocean. Family driving around the Hampton Beach area during our 2 week cottage stay, but it was far from a beach day, so we went for a coastal ride and some fun stops along the way. I have a distinct memory of this song being on the car radio as we rode the coast in our station wagon. 🙂

    4. Locomotion ~ Grand Funk Railroad
All aboard! I love this one.

    3. Jet ~ Paul McCartney and Wings
This guy had so many great solo songs. This is just one of them. Such an uplifting tune.

    2. Band on the Run ~ Paul McCartney and Wings
This song opens the album of the same name, and its multiple parts run like a suite, and that’s pretty sweet. This is a favorite, and also makes me think of my brother (as any song by the Beatles or any member of the Beatles does).

    1. Bennie and the Jets ~ Elton John
A well-deserved top nod. The song by Taupin and Elton is about a fictional band, lead by an androgynous female singer. The song is not live, as it sounds in the recording. I was going to comment on that with what I knew of it, but this quote from Wikipedia handles it perfectly: “Despite sounding as if it’s recorded live, the song was recorded in studio, with live sound effects added later. Producer Gus Dudgeon explained:

For some weird reason, Elton happened to have hit the opening piano chord of the song exactly one bar before the song actually started. So I was doing the mix and this chord kept coming on which you normally wouldn’t expect to hear. I turned to engineer [David Hentschel] and I said, ‘What does that remind you of? … It’s the sort of thing that people do on stage just before they’re going to start a song.’ Just to kind of get everybody, ‘Okay, here we go, ready?’ For some reason that chord being there made me think, ‘Maybe we should fake-live this.’

Dudgeon mixed in sounds from a 1972 performance by John at the Royal Festival Hall and a 1970 Jimi Hendrix concert on the Isle of Wight. He included a series of whistles from a live concert in Vancouver, and added hand claps and various shouts.”

Thanks for the list. That was fun!

    1. This is great. Thanks I started to keep track of the numbers that are my favorite but my list got too long for my now limited memory.

      1. Man, TK, you are good!

        Thanks for the notes!

I have loved Elton John’s music since I was in the sixth grade when my music teacher played cuts from Elton’s “Honky Chateau”. Heck, I stole Elton’s autobiographical name for this blog!

“Harmony” was never an (inter)national hit, but was here in Boston.

Thanks for the stroll down memory lane!

        1. There is no upside for the Pats in winning today. The Patriots’ management and coached have ducked this question all week.

            1. Except there’s the little issue that the Pats are playing an inferior opponent today, given who’s actually on the field.

If the Pats win today, so be it. You can only “fake” it so much. They may lose today, but it won’t be easy. 😉

                1. Yep. It’s going to be hard to lose this game based on what I’ve seen so far. And I actually think they should just play the best they can.

Screw losing on purpose. Just play.

Having the first pick vs. the second pick doesn’t guarantee you ANYTHING. More than 1 step is needed to fix this team.

                2. Not a surprise that I agree, TK. While I agree first round would be great, I’m not a fan of playing to lose.

But with the Pats decades history of bad draft picks, who knows if they’d use the option well.

For Mayo, while he was not my choice, a huge number of folks were pleased he was chosen. He’s working with two strikes or maybe three against him. One the inability to draft. Two, and maybe the biggest, he doesn’t have the advantage BB had…. Brady’s coaching. Three is that he was “trained” by BB.

  8. If the Pats win, it’s not a matter of 1st pick vs 2nd. They could fall as far as the #4 pick. They should have kept Maye in there, they’ve been losing with him, why not continue? Ironically, 2 of their wins were WITHOUT Maye.

          1. Yep, that is. I concede it. I didn’t care enough to do my full hw on that one.

I kind of hope the Pats win today. I really do. 🙂

    1. Maye is a rookie who will make mistakes. For a rook, he has tremendous poise. They just need to bring him along and avoid what they did to Mac Jones.

      1. Mac had a better rookie year. Not saying Maye isn’t a good QB. His ceiling is higher than Mac. I just don’t think he showed any improvement from his 1st to last start. Indictment on the coaching? Better hope so.

    2. Or we could leave him in there and risk a career ending injury.

He’s currently more important than whether we get #1, #2, #3, #4. The order players are picked … there are so many variables. It’s all in how you use what you pick.

#1 pick is somewhat overrated, if you look back through the history of #1’s. 🙂

  9. As for the team, the Pats may prove today that they win when they need to lose and they lose when they need to win.

  10. It’s so funny watching the overall fan base have a meltdown because things are not the same as they were for 20 years. 😉

I mean hey, I want them to win too, but this is just how it goes!

Just sports. These guys are all rich either way – as in MASSIVELY OVERPAID for what they do. Go Pats!!!

    1. Interestingly I was recently looking at when we will see the first $1 billion pro sports contract. You can find almost any date you want. Juan Soto’s deal is $765 million for 15 years.

      1. There’s no reason that anybody should be making nearly a billion dollars playing a game when we have as many $ related problems as we do in this country.

        We’re doing it all wrong.

        1. Boy do I agree with that. I will re repeat. When Ted had a bad year, he asked for a pay cut. We have lost our way when it comes to a lot of things…..sports included

  11. Meanwhile my Bruins lose again last night. Still have a winning record, and I still love my inconsistent team. 🙂 Go B’s!

Oh and I’m predicting a 17-16 win for the Pats from here on today. 🙂

    Tee..hee..heehee…hee!

      1. They do indeed! I’ll be watching it on a DVR delay because I’ll be at the New England Botanic Garden from 5:15 to ?:?? … NBD! The way my schedule is these days I watch a lot of games on DVR-delay. 😉

  12. On a different note, I am taking a ride to New England Botanic Garden this evening for the final night of the holiday lights there. Looking forward to that. 🙂

  13. Attention Hadi: I’ll chat with you soon about a potential meet-up.

I have one coming up on January 21 for a weather page that I admin, and it’s a very popular page, so I’m focused on that one at the moment, then I can shift gears.

    1. It’s not too often you see a team try to play spoiler by losing, but that’s exactly what I think the Bills are doing. By losing to us, they win, and we lose. 😉

  14. 1. I agree with the benching of Maye, today Milton has shown that he is our back up qb. He has to work on his release speed.
    2. Bills are literally trying to lose this game to troll us.
     3. A good off season will look like the following
Covington is fired, worst coach on the team.
Patriots hire Brian Flores as DC ( more on this later)
AVP I feel like has shown that he is good for Drake Maye, and I feel like though he is not the best at play calling he can be the OC. more on this later.
In terms of Mayo, I really do not like what I see from him, he has been awful and has not shown any improvement if anything he has gotten worst.
I really want to see Vrabel as the HC and have a good amount of say in picking players.
If not Vrabel, Mayo likely stays and has this off season to improve the team, then if they continue to suck with no improvement first 5 games They fire him and give the reigns to Flores.

Fans have every right to be upset with this team and especially the owners who have shown now that they been the problem since 2019. I know some on here hate Bill but I like him way more than krafts

    1. Matt you are absolutely spot on with your patriots posts , you tell it like it is , just like myself . Fans have every right to be pissed & I am glad there was more booing today ( there passionate & I love that ) I have 0 respect for Kraft as he is destroying this team & if he wants to start improving, fire Mayo immediately & hire Mike as it’s your last shot with him ( he is begging you to hire him ) I would give the OC one more season , but if Mayo gets cut loose , he probably will as well because new coach will have his own guy . I would love to hire Josh back as well if current OC gets cut

      1. I do understand being upset if it’s for your team. I don’t understand being upset if it’s because your team isn’t always on top.

I cannot imagine how the players feel at the end of a year that surely wasn’t what any of them hoped for. What does booing someone accomplish? I cannot help but wonder if these “fans” are a might be a small part of the problem. I don’t know of anyone who improves when boo’d if he or she is struggling.

        1. Well Kraft listened to the fans finally , coach had to go part one , go get Mike part two & Kraft open your wallet & build this team around Drake

  15. While I understand the reasoning behind the NFL draft rules, I laugh imagining if the “real world” worked that way.

“Congratulations George! You worked your butt off and graduated at the top of your class with a degree in Electrical Engineering. As a result, you are hired by last year’s worst-performing engineering company.” 🙂

    1. There are players who want to end up with a rich contract on a poor performing team. They get the $$$ and they have a better chance to shine. The same is true for coaches. Some want to end up with a team that had a bad record, figuring they can only do better.

  16. Jarod Mayo has been fired. I told my son yesterday that the only way he DOESN’T keep his job is if the Patriots won today.

        1. I think he’s an immediate upgrade Philip & he has the respect of many around the league. He did a pretty decent job with the Titans

          1. 100% agree on the players & that’s on Kraft getting then & spending money . But I disagree on Vrabel or even Flores as they are both highly regarded coaches & experienced which Mayo was not !! Mayo was in way over his head & everyone knew that & if absolutely showed . He threw his players & coaches under the bus more than once , most on the team had 0 respect for him

  17. Tough season for your Pats but things can turn around quickly. Look at my Commanders, 12 wins with a rookie QB but granted much better roster. They were 4-13 last season, that’s an incredible turn around.

Not sure Vrabel is the answer either. Defensive guy isn’t what they need. And if so then he needs a really good offensive coordinator and not McDaniels.

    1. I’m a hard no on McDaniels too. I heard the possiblity on the radio this week and was flabbergasted. I see him in the same vein as Belichick, mostly the product of the best QB to ever play the game.

        1. That makes sense.

I was just peeking at Schefter

If I read correctly, they are 120 million under the cap.

I will only begin to have maybe a bit of understanding how bad he is screwed Mayo over if they spend all of that cap space, have a strong draft and pay a lot more on the coaches.

But this Mayo firing is really annoying to me.

I just think everyone needs to be given a fair chance to succeed and he wasn’t ready to succeed because he was hired too soon and he had the league’s worst roster. And on principle, that doesn’t sit well with me.

  18. Mayo was never given a chance. To fire a black coach after one year is a shame. White coaches rarely get fired after 1 season, it happens. And please this isn’t anything political, just pointing it out.

They have huge cap space and they did this year and didn’t spend. Robert Kraft needs to take a step back. But ownership being involved is never good. Trust me I know 🙂

    1. Wow , what are you doing Hadi. There most certainly can be a debate on whether he should have been fires or not , but to bring race into the conversation is just not right .

      1. 100% you can, black coaches haven’t been given the same opportunity and if you don’t see that then I am sorry. Did you hear Gronk today, and then gets cuts off by Fox.

      2. It’s a completely acceptable take by Hadi. It’s an unfortunate reality in the NFL though I’m not prepared to say race was any factor in Kraft’s decision. Mayo was ineffective, admittedly, yet he never had a chance and was set up for failure from the start.

        1. Exactly Arod. My 17 year old son plays high school football and it irritates him to no end when parents blame everything on the coaches. As he says “we are the ones on that field executing the plays and sometimes we simply do not do it well”.

          1. Your son is quite an astute, mature player. Many kids these days point fingers rather than taking any accountability. Mayo was not given the proper tools to be successful- from the coaching staff to the personnel. It’s difficult to evaluate his performance under these circumstances. I’m not even certain that a seasoned coach like Vrabel, by himself, can do much better without other major changes taking place.

        2. Not saying it was, but black coaches don’t get the same deference the white coaches do. It’s facts even though people don’t want to see it.

          1. Hadi he was an inexperienced HC in way over his head . As my post above said he threw his players & coaches under the bus constantly, he just was not ready for this big of a promotion.

    1. Because this draft is rather anemic, the Patriots could potentially pay the price for years to come by dropping from number 1 to number 4. Unless there is a desperate team out there, I don’t see another organization coming forward with a mind blowing offer just to get the fourth pick in the draft. The same cannot be said had the Patriots maintained position to obtain the number one overall pick. Sure, they’ll get a nice player (hopefully), but they lose out on the possibility of receiving multiple current and future picks. Such a bummer.

      1. Of course he was going to. New coach will want his own people. Not the take you think it is.

Bill Walsh/Joe Gibbs wouldn’t have done anything with this team. It was devoid of any talent. Sure Mayo could have been better st sole press conferences. Always easy to blame coaches when owners can’t be held accountable.

  19. “As expected” … the GFS is showing its trademark inconsistency.
Continue to largely ignore operational runs for next weekend UFN. 🙂

  20. In terms of the Mayo firing, I was surprised to see that it happened so quickly. I also wonder if today Mayo knew he was going to be fired and tried and succeed in taking away the first overall pick.
In terms of the white vs POC coaches. I understand that frustration but this is a bit different than the Flores situation. Flores had a culture built in Miami, he was winning games, he didn’t put his foot in his mouth while coaching. Mayo has consistently put his foot in his mouth, the culture sucks, there is no accountability for the players. Flores got his defensive unit playing good which Mayo’s unit went from top 10 to bottom of the barrel. The only person that seemed to have had accountability was the special teams coordinator who i hope they keep. Mayo was obviously not ready to be a HC and we knew that, but he did not improve through the season, he did not change anything. Other coaches at least attempt to adjust things if they are not working. Mayo never did that.
Now I see them going a couple different routes.
    If Vrabel becomes head coach
1 option OC and DC are picked by Vrabel ( there are a handful of past Patriots that might be involved)
2 option. OC is picked by Vrabel but AVP stays on the staff.
    3. Vrabel keeps AVP as OC

Johnson I think is a second option

Flores who I think could be a DC option for Vrabel as well could be an option for HC if the other two do not work out I think Flores would pick someone he is use to work with for OC.

I thought last year Mayo was not the best option, I honestly thought and still think today that firing BB was a mistake but if anyone was going to be the head coach I wanted Vrabel. He has shown he can be a good head coach did he struggle at the end yes but there were other players at hand that caused that I feel like. I also think Vrabel will bring back parts of the Patriot way that worked for 20 years and get that defense rolling again.

  21. Great points Matt. I wasn’t implying that he was fired bc he black vs. white. Just saying black coaches historically have been screwed over way more than white coaches. That’s fact abf if folks can’t see then I don’t know what to say to you. That’s why the Rooney rules exists which these owners still don’t follow. (If you don’t know the Rooney rule, I would recommend you google it). BTW owners for years also said black QB’s can’t win in the NFL so please don’t in anyway say black coaches and players have been treated fairly. Lamar Jackson is about to be a 3x MVP in my book.

As far as Mayo, listen he had a bad season and said things that I know he regretted. But bringing on Vrabel isn’t going to sold anything. The roster is awful, I looked at it last night and honestly it’s the worst roster I have seen in years.

  22. Now back to weather, I have to agree with TK though I really don’t want to :). Weekend storm looks to slide south and just miss us. Maybe we squeeze out a few inches at best.

    1. For snow lovers I see nothing but doom and gloom. here’s hoping things change and sooner rather than later.

And when things change we’ll have a cutter or inside runner with warm RAIN. Just wait and see.
