Sunday January 12 2025 Forecast (8:32AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JANUARY 12-16)

A generally quiet pattern will be with us over this 5-day forecast period, but that doesn’t mean there are not things to discuss – just no big storm systems. Today, a northerly air flow switches to westerly as low pressure to our east moves away and a ridge of high pressure noses in from the southwest. Initially, the northerly flow holds clouds in across Cape Cod and I can’t rule out a couple snow showers over the Outer Cape Cod region through midday, otherwise besides some early morning wave clouds near the Monadnocks, and maybe a few fair weather clouds passing by anywhere during the day, we’ll have sunshine and tolerable temps with not too much wind. The upper flow over the coming several days will be generally westerly, with 2 short-wave troughs moving through (Monday-Tuesday and again Thursday). A surface low associated with the first one will send a warm front through our region late Monday and a cold front later Tuesday. This system will bring some varying amounts of clouds to the region, but only a very low chance of any snow shower activity. Similarly, Thursday’s system will be largely a “dry” passage with only a low snow shower risk. So while several “things” happen the next several days, it’s overall a quiet pattern in terms of sensible weather.

TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 30-37. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 15-22. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 32-39. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT / TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. Slight chance of snow showers. Lows 16-23. Highs 29-36. Wind W increasing to 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 15-22. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 28-35. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 16-23. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. A passing snow flurry possible. Highs 25-32. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

DAYS 6-10 (JANUARY 17-21)

Some changes are ahead for this period as we bring high pressure through the region early in the period then offshore. A more moist southerly air flow precedes a cold front around January 18 that delivers a colder air mass by January 19 and then sets up the opportunity for additional storminess with snow/mix potential January 20-21. There’s a long way to go before this and plenty of time to watch and analyze trends for these unsettled chances.

DAYS 11-15 (JANUARY 22-26)

Medium range indications are for more cold weather and a mid period snow chance.

      1. I have a feeling that there is some missing data that might change this. For instance, I wonder what Lowell ended up with.

  1. Thanks TK! I will take this option over what they are experiencing in LA. This seems to me to be the greatest natural catastrophe of my lifetime. Katrina has always been – especially with loss of life – but the sheer devastation, with more to come, seems it will have an even greater devastating impact on that area – and our country- then Katrina did

    1. It is beyond comprehension and they are facing an increase in wind this week

      I found out last night that Mac’s brothers in-laws who live in the LA area are all right as is his cousins son. But another cousins son had to evacuate. He’s the one who was/is Harry Styles and a few others whose names I’m not also not familiar with manager.

      1. Terrible Vicki…they have said this is worse that the Great Chicago fire and approaching the 1906 earthquake. Newsom already has said publicly it is the worst natural disaster in our nation’s history. We will not understand the full implications for months.

  2. Good morning and thanks tk!

    Vrabel hiring was inevitable. Hope Jerod gets hired somewhere else and builds his resume in other coaching aspects so he can get a shot as a head coach again when he’s more experienced. It was never going to be a good job following Belichick for anyone unless they got instant success.

  3. Jerod Mayo was placed in an impossible situation that was totally unfair to him. I agree, I hope he catches on somewhere as he will be an excellent coach some day, just not now.

    1. Good For Shit indeed. Canadian and Euro look nothing like that. After its despicable performance on this weekend’s system at this time range, my money is most definitely not on that solution.

        1. I wouldn’t worry too much about specific deterministic solutions. The pattern becomes favorable after a readjustment in 7 days. Actually the readjustment begins in 5 days and takes 3 days to happen.

  4. Seasonal Snowfall Totals to date: ❄️

    ORH (WOR) = 12.4”
    BOS = 7.5”
    NYC = 4.2”

    Jimmy – Has DC received any more snow since last Sunday/Monday?

  5. The only thing I’ll say about Vrabel’s hiring is this. With my “ok” but somewhat limited knowledge, I think he was probably a better choice than Mayo, but he’s NOT going to be a magic fix. So I hope nobody’s thinking the Pats are gonna come out of the gate and run the table next season. Let me put it this way: Hadi will be happier as a Washington fan than Pats fans will be for at least the next couple / few seasons. 😉

    This is the next (and early) step in a long rebuild. 🙂 Just keeping it real!

    1. The pats are already a better team because they just hired an incredibly experienced coach . We need to see who he brings in & who he gets rid of . Kraft has a ton of money to spend and I think he is ready to do this . Front office needs to go as well . I’m pretty certain this plan moving forward was discussed during the interview. Mike had the upper hand in this interview as he had plenty of teams wanting him as he really was the number 1 choice for most teams . Ben was second but not being a head coach I think set him back . We hopefully will learn more at tomorrow’s noontime press conference. I strongly Believe Kraft knows who will be joining the team along with Mike

    2. Can’t say it better. There was more at work here. Mayo didn’t have the experience and he was trained by BB. Two strikes that were obvious day one. He was put in an unfair position (second person for this) and I am really hoping that he will find the right mentor to work his way back. But the fans are not blameless either. Encouraging them to play any part in the decision is a fools errand.

    3. Vince Lombardi himself couldn’t make this team a contender as currently constructed. Until the owner makes a significant financial investment in the PLAYERS, this team will be at the bottom of the league indefinitely

    4. Vrabel will have less of an excuse than Mayo did if the team doesn’t at least win more games than the last two years. Good WB, great cap space, high draft pick, ability to organize the coaching staff the way he sees fit unlike with Mayo… so he has a lot more pieces to the puzzle than Mayo did.

  6. Thanks TK for your response in yesterday’s blog. I’m going to have to remember NWS “lettering” rules for wx stations. 🙂

  7. Broncos defense so far has not stopped the Bills giving up a touchdown and field goal. Important for the Broncos to score on this drive after converting on a fake punt.
