Summer Sizzle Tuesday

7:43PM

We get into the real heat in southern New England for one day, Tuesday. Though Wednesday may still be hot, it won’t likely be as hot, as at least some clouds, showers, and thunderstorms will be around, as a cold front drops through the region from the northwest. This front will hang not far south of the region through Thursday, so bringing complete clearing into the region is not something I am going to do right now. That will have to wait until Friday, when a push of cooler, drier air will invade the region, lasting through Saturday. High pressure sinks to the south by Sunday, when it will already start warming up again. This may lead to another bout of heat and humidity early next week.

Forecast for eastern MA, southern NH, and RI…

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy & hazy. Mild & muggy. Lows 65-70. Wind light variable.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy & hazy. Hot & humid. Highs 94-99, some 80s Cape Cod/Islands. Wind SW increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy & hazy. Slight chance of thunderstorms late. Very warm & muggy. Lows 72-77. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly south of the Mass Pike, early to mid morning. Partly sunny late morning through early afternoon. Mostly cloudy again remainder of afternoon with showers and a chance of thunderstorms mainly south of the Mass Pike again. Remaining humid and very warm. Highs in the 80s, may touch 90 in a few areas that get enough sun. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Sunshine north, clouds south. Low 64. High 82.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 60. High 80.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 59. High 80.

SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 62. High 85.

MONDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 65. High 90.

  1. Thanks TK. Heading to the cape for the day tomorrow. Hopefully it will be slightly cooler there.

  2. Thanks TK!

Any chance yuu have some thoughts for Bushkill, PA starting Thursday through Sat the 28th? Any awful looking days ? Thanks in advance.

    1. This Thursday there may be a few showers/storms with a disturbance riding a front in the area. Friday and the weekend look great! A bit early to tell about next week but I think some heat and t-storms may be in the offing.

  3. Any chance of activity forming near a sea breeze today?

TK, what are your thoughts for the weather in Conway from July 26 to 28th?

    1. Still 10 days out but I like the pattern for near to above normal temperatures and near to below normal precip.

  4. Heat advisory up for a good part of SNE today. Stay cool if you can.
Storm Prediction Center has placed us in the slight risk for severe weather tomorrow.

  5. Watch out for anyone traveling to Northern New England today or knows anyone who lives there since that area COULD see a pretty good size severe weather outbreak including the possiblity of an isolated tornado as the SPC gives parts of Northern New England a 5% chance of seeing one which you kind of take notice when it gets up to that percentage. That front shifts to our area tomorrow. I think the biggest threats will be heavy rain, vivid lightning, strong winds, and maybe even some hail.
Thunderstorm Index at a 2 tomorrow but could very well change.

  6. A few of the storms from northern New England may try to survive into southern New England later tonight. That was the early threat I spoke of recently. Things may still try to redevelop tomorrow mainly south of the Mass Pike, with much less or nothing to the north of the Pike. Again it will depend on frontal position and convergence areas (any leftover boundaries, etc). Also a chance that coastal NH and parts of eastern MA end up much cooler than some people think tomorrow afternoon as winds may go NE.

  7. Ocean temps are balmy!! Ranging from the mid 70’s south of RI to mid 60’s north of Boston, just an 6-8 hr drive down the coast and ocean temps are already 80 degrees 🙂

      1. Awwwww. Thank you. It went well. But won’t know for a bit. Feeling a bit funky from procedure and the anesthesia. Sooooo great excuse to just lie down and watch TV.

How are you after being out in the heat all day?

        1. Im beat i have been working 12 hr days two
To three days a week since april, not complaing though. Feels like last week was years ago.

          1. My husband has been leaving at 5:30 and getting home at 5:30-6:00 every day for a couple of years. It’s a long day so I can sympathize with you. He doesn’t complain either.

  8. I would not be surprised that the showers come earlier . which means northern mass will see scattered showers while areas south of the pike will see the greatest chance of strong storms. I think highs will be in the upper 80s north of the pike with highs possibly reaching the low 90s south of it. Areas around rt 2 and outside of 495 could see a stray storm but later tonight so Do not inspect it to be strong .

  9. 98F on the truck’s thermometer and 102F on bank thermometer in sun at around 4:30pm in downtown Ithica. Blazing sun continues, however, there are clouds on the northern horizon. Hopefully nothing too severe to come.

        1. Me too Vicki. I was talking to a friend the other day who recently had a kidney stone. The doctor said that he thought he had taken too many Tums in a short period of time and that led to the calcium building up and producing the kidney stones.

I think mine are caused by not drinking enough every day.

          1. Thanks tom and north. I never used to drink water but I drink about 60-90 oz a day now. My stones are uric acid. I’ve passed 12-15 in the last 2.5 yrs. I’m so used to it that mostly it doesn’t bother me.

            1. I am the worst when it comes to drinking water or any liquids when I am at work. I don’t realize I am missing it until I am leaving to go home and look at my full water bottle I brought with me!

  10. Some warning boxes through NH to the seacoast earlier. They were even breaking in on jeopardy.

  11. Glad to hear ur doing well Vicki! Shot a 37 in the blazing heat this afternoon 🙂

    1. My husband says way to go. Yay from me too. He shot 42 last week and 42 and 43 on Sunday. Seems you are both on a role.

  12. Yay Vicki!

    ………………

This frozen iced tea from Dunkin’ Donuts is particularly good this evening.

Saw some CC lightning in the 8PM hour from the southeastern NH cells that died as it entered Essex County MA. Plenty of storms upstream in NY/VT but do they make it down here? Trends seem to want to weaken them to just a few showers and isolated storms later. Boundary re-fires tomorrow mainly south of the Pike. This may leave a large amount of Metro Boston high & dry.

    1. Thanks TK. Nothing for fram tomorrow? With all the heat we’ve had there have been so few storms. And wow do we need rain

      1. The storms fire up, and do their job, but they don’t usually hit everywhere (unless it’s a solid line or area, but that’s not the case this time).

Plenty of action in NY and parts of northern New England this afternoon/evening.

Tomorrow I would not rule it out there, but the region will be on the northern edge of the most likely area.

  13. Is anyone else having trouble viewing the model loops on the noaa website. I can view the images one by one, but not as a loop. I could see it fine yesterday.

  14. Looks like if you live south of Boston you will have the best chance for showers and tstorms tomorrow, Hartford to Providence could get a couple rounds of storms 🙂
