Sunday March 23 2025 Forecast (6:52AM)

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 23-27)

A quick update for your Sunday. No big changes to the overall forecast. Today’s weather will be considerably cooler than yesterday, and also windy. But expect dry weather with sunshine and some passing fair weather clouds. Winds settle down by tonight but clouds advance ahead of our next low pressure visit. This one messes up our Monday with a rain event, except it starts as some mix/snow over interior areas mainly near and west of I-95 and near and north of I-90 with some minor accumulation possible at first. Tuesday still looks chilly and breezy with a possible passing sprinkle/flurry. Another round of unsettled weather Wednesday with quick-passing low pressure, favoring a period of rain/mix in the southern half of the region. Fair weather is expected Thursday with a cool northwesterly air flow.

TODAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 45-52. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, gusts 25-35 MPH.

TONIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 30-37. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, diminishing.

MONDAY: Overcast. Rain likely, may begin as snow in some areas, especially north and west of Boston with a small accumulation possible on unpaved surfaces. Highs 40-47. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Cloudy with areas of fog evening, rain tapering off. Breaking clouds overnight. Lows 35-42. Wind variable up to 10 MPH, becoming W 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Intervals of clouds and sun. A brief passing rain/mix/snow shower possible. Highs 42-49. Wind W 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy evening. Mostly cloudy overnight. Lows 32-39. Wind W 5-15 MPH, diminishing.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain, some mix possible, favoring southern areas. Highs 40-47. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 30-37. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

THURSDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 45-52. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 28 – APRIL 1)

An unsettled pattern is indicated. It starts out cool and may feature a brief warm shot mid-period before another chill-down. Details of disturbances and resultant precipitation threats TBD.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 2-6)

An unsettled pattern with below normal temperatures for early April. Details also TBD as we’ll be closer to a boundary and under fast flowing jet stream which leads to a lot of uncertainty on tracks/timing of systems.

  1. A tv newscaster this morning regarding the Monday morning brief snow:

“I thought we were DONE with that.” 😉

      1. I would like to see an April or May real snow event. Hope this happens within the next few years.

        1. Thanks JPD. What is interesting about that snow map is how the amounts rapidly increased once leaving Boston city limits. Even Providence was in the 5-10 inch range. Also of note is the “shadowing” in the CT Valley (nothing) then amounts build back up from the Berkshires west into NY state.

          1. Also, May 10, 1977 was a snow day for me. I went to Newman Preparatory School in Boston’s Back Bay which had many students and teachers from the western suburbs. ❄️ 🙂

  2. JimmyJames:

You may have posted earlier, but, how were the games in Providence? Did you see all four games? Did you go yesterday?

    1. Captain I saw the four games on Thursday and the two games yesterday. St . Johns Arkansas game had mostly St. Johns fans. St. Johns only shot 28 percent from the field. The Arkansas Kansas game on Thursday was entertaining. Arkansas starts conference play 0-5 and is in the sweet sixteen

  3. Thanks TK.

Weather was spectacular throughout the trip. Malta was especially sunny and very windy. Everyone got a burn for sure 🙂

Arrived home safely last night. Fortunately, we visited Istanbul on our way there vs at the end of the trip. As the country is now in a major crises.

          1. I saw that but let me tell you some of the gusts right on the cliffs were incrediblei Malta. If you are on FB or Instagram you can find me and see the videos.

    1. Welcome home. What a great vacation. I thought of you visiting Malta. Mac and family sailed there often in summer months.

      1. Thanks. Incredible history and all the WW2 stuff was
        fascinating.

Istanbul really was something. Sad to see what’s happening right now.

  4. Thanks TK! I am in SW Florida visiting my son. It’s been cool done here especially in mornings. Head back tonight. Looks like a cold and damp start to baseball season

  5. JJ:

If you don’t mind me asking, did you see all four games on Thursday with just one ticket?

  6. For me, from last Monday through the third week of April offers the worst of New England weather. A few teases of warmth and then cold and crap.

  7. First 6AM Sunrise: APRIL 16th!!!!! 🙁

    STUPID DST!!!! TOTAL INSANITY!!!!

I had to rant…It’s when I get up every day.

  8. I love days like today – deep blue sky, cool temperature, and warm sun. The hiking conditions are great with dry paths (not really good in other ways) and no bugs.

    1. Much like April 5, 1982, one day before the great powder blizzard (April 6-7, 1982). Days like this this time of year remind me of that event. Not likely to be a repeat tomorrow morning that’s for sure. ❄️ 🙂

      1. I always remember that windy, cold Monday April 5.

I have some audio recordings from that day of WHDH radio (850 AM) in which Vin Maloney is doing the news and I remember (even without digging out the recording) him saying “gusting close to 40, at times…”

I also have some audio clips from NOAA Weather Radio (Boston office). In my media project is making digital clips from “the past” and making them available for people to hear. 🙂 Mega nostalgia.

        1. Side note: When I was little, I used to think Vin Maloney was identifying himself as “Vin Boloney”.

Similarly, there was a news guy on WBZ, Guy Manella. I used to hear it as “Guy Vanilla”. 😉

          1. I remember them both but I always heard their names as they should be pronounced. Of course I’m a bit older than you. 😉

When I was very young I used to pronounce Gleem toothpaste as “Geem”. 🙂

  9. Made it all the way up to 44 today.

Will be cold enough for snow overnight. How much does it warm at surface and aloft before precipitation moves in tomorrow AM?

    1. If it is cold enough, enjoy watching it fall, what little does. It may very well be the last flakes of the season. I’m getting less and less optimistic for that final “big” snow every day. The CPC now has near normal temps over us with above temps right on its heels. Maybe that changes tomorrow when human mets go back to work?

      1. We don’t need below normal temps over a 5 day period for snow. All we need is it to be cold enough during the event. These may very well not be the final flakes of the season. The upcoming pattern dictates otherwise… 🙂
