DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 29 – APRIL 2)
An unsettled stretch of weather is ours through Monday to close out March. The frontal boundary is already southwest of the entire WHW forecast area so you can forget the big temperature contrast in the southwestern portion of the region today. It’s chilly everywhere, but coldest in northern MA and southern NH where the temperature will hover near freezing in some locations (32 at Concord NH early this morning). With periodic rain and drizzle occurring especially in southern NH and far northern MA today and tonight, we have to watch for some freezing of that precipitation on untreated surfaces in these locations. A push of rain will reach further south tonight, but that should occur in areas where the temperature is above freezing. A similar situation continues Sunday but the temperature in the northern areas should edge a bit higher to allow any icing to diminish. It also looks fairly precipitation-free for a good portion of Sunday’s daylight hours before another push of rain occurs in the evening. This will take place as the frontal boundary is finally pushed northward as a warm front, in response to strengthening low pressure passing through the Great Lakes enroute to eastern Canada. We’ll be in the warm sector on Monday, but clouds will dominate and a few rain showers can occur during the day. We’ll have a more widespread band of convective rainfall Monday evening, which can include embedded thunder and gusty wind, moving across the region from west to east with a cold front. Behind this front comes a cool, dry air mass for the first day of April on Tuesday, but our active pattern means the next low pressure system will approach by midweek with an increase in clouds Wednesday and some precipitation possible by late-day or that night. At day 5, the details are fuzzy, but that system may start as something other than rain for part of the region.
TODAY: Cloudy. Occasional light rain / drizzle favoring northern MA and southern NH where some icing can occur. Temperatures range 32-39 southern NH / northern MA to 38-45 South Coast and eastern CT. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Areas of fog and drizzle. Periods of rain, may include some freezing rain and sleet far northern MA and southern NH. Temperatures generally steady in the ranges expected today. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Cloudy. Areas of drizzle eastern coastal locations. Highs 38-45. Wind NE up to 10 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Cloudy with rain likely. Areas of fog. Temperature steady 38-45 evening, rising overnight. Wind NE to variable up to 10 MPH, becoming S 10-20 MPH with higher gusts from south to north overnight.
MONDAY: Mostly cloudy. Passing rain showers possible. Highs 48-55 South Coast, 56-63 elsewhere. Wind S 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.
MONDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain showers likely during the evening, ending overnight. Lows 40-47. Wind S 10-20 MPH, higher gusts, shifting to W.
TUESDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 48-55. Wind W to NW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 25-32. Wind N up to 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Increasing clouds. Chance of rain/mix/snow at night. Highs 40-47. Wind E up to 10 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 3-7)
Brief warm-up April 3 but a chance of rain showers as low pressure passes. Dry, cool, windy April 4. Additional unsettled weather probable later in the period.
DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 8-12)
One or two systems have the potential to impact the region with precipitation during an unsettled and colder than average pattern.
Thank you TK.
Walked the shore at 39F, now 37.
Tk, thank you

Thank you, TK!
Steady drizzle here. Sigh.
Light snow in Andover mixed with sleet pellets.
Radar shows not much so low level moisture. My cousin has 6 inches in Denmark, ME since last night. He shared a photo and that’s after 5 inches the other day too.
Current temperature here is 37. If it were only 5-7 degrees colder…oh well.
If this was a 3-day holiday weekend it would be the perfect example of Murphy’s Law, but since there’s no Monday holiday it’s just 3 straight days of unsettled weather.
Thanks, TK!!!
You called it, sir!
As of 12 noon, 31 and mixed precip in Concord NH
77 and partly sunny in Danbury!!!!
Only in New England do these distinct occurrences happen within relatively short distances.
This is very much not true. There are multiple places in the USA where this happens: Midwest, Plains, Rockies, West Coast, to name 4 major ones. There are numerous examples of larger contrasts and larger short-term changes that I can cite, and I will do so later to give some context.
Where I live, for example, on a typical summer day there’s a 40 degree spread within about 20 miles
The Wayback Machine is remembering the Great March Flooding of March, 2010, 15 years ago. We had 4.93″ on March 29-31. I recall fearing the cellar flooding out because the sump pump couldn’t keep up. Rt. 44 was shut down because the Taunton River had flooded its banks and other roads in the South Coast region were washed out.
There was nearly 7″ during March 13-15 and another 2.22″ on March 23. I recorded a Taunton all-time record of 16.83″ of rain in March, 2010.
Now that I recall, the IRS gave MA residents an extension well beyond April 15th on filing our taxes following that event. I forget the exact number of days though. Of course that was before filing online. I believe we were still going through the motions of picking up the proper forms at the post office.
The year 2010 might as well have been 1910 in comparison to today’s technology.
Snowing in Woburn.
Well, I didn’t have that in my fcst.
Snow in Fitchburg. Snow in Beverly.
Based on radar, this appears to be ocean-effect snow for Beverly to my location. And it’s colder than guidance had. Never underestimate cold air in spring. I should have listened to that rule of them a little better today.
SAK has informed me that Marshfield & Provincetown are reporting sleet (I hadn’t looked, I was with my mother working on laundry).
This frozen stuff is a lot further south and east than I had anticipated.
Note: SLEET counts as SNOW as far as climate records go.
Down to 35F.
Boston’s down to 36. Dew point is 32, which means they’re likely not done falling.
Light flurries in Swampscott now. Should be over in a couple of minutes.
The ocean blobs actually go back quite a distance. You’ll probably see it go back and forth from flakes to drizzle.
I am going to be flabbergasted if Logan doesn’t report snow within the next hour. It’s right on their doorstep.
Snowing again here in Woburn now.
Exactly that is what I am seeing now. Not sure I’m seeing this on radar in a definitive way.
37 with 34 DP. Nothing falling.
I just had a burst of snow here that took me down to 1/2 mile for about 45 seconds.. hahaha! Still snowing but very lightly.
I am not minding ONE SINGLE BIT that I was wrong about this today.
Why would you my friend? The word weather and the phrase perfect certainty are usually not found in the same paragraph let alone the same sentence.
Thank you TK!
Thanks TK.
42F and very chilly on the softball field in Coventry this afternoon. Unbelievable that it is 78F at Danbury in western CT right now and 81F at NYC. As late as yesterday the NWS had us at 67F for a high here today. That ain’t happening.
Jay Peak VT snowing with 3-6″ new on the ground and 30″ new in the last 7 days.
442″ of snow on the season now, which I believe makes them the snowiest ski resort in the country this season outside of the Pacific NW.

If you need help decoding that, the only important things are: “Logan Airport” and “light snow”. Boston will NOT go snowless in March.
Observation courtesy SAK. I’ve been too busy running around between upstairs and mom’s house to pay close attention.
The Yankees hit three homers on the first three pitches of the game today:
https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/paul-goldschmidt-cody-bellinger-aaron-judge-homer-on-first-three-pitches
After that Nestor Cortes, pitching for the Brewers, had an undefined ERA (3/0).

Yankees so far have 8 home runs with Aaron Judge hitting 3 of those home runs. The record for home runs by one team in a game is ten.
Jeez, I should turn the game on…wasnt even watching!
9 home runs now and 20-6. Holy crap!
Yankees have one more inning to get ten home runs as a team and tie the record. Aaron Judge bats in the 8th inning trying to get his 4th home run of the game.
I was thinking of you this morning, Mark, wondering if you were on a softball field today!
I remember days like this coaching my boys on the Little League and soccer fields.
The temperature has fallen one degree in the last 15 minutes or so. We’re at 38.1.
The Easter Sunday Snowstorm was 55 years ago today.
Providence had 7.8″ of snow. I remember our Easter dinner company had to leave early because the weather was deteriorating.
Here are the details from WPRI-TV, Channel 12:

Yep the scrimmages have started for the high school softball team so we are back outside. My least favorite time of year to be out on the softball field!
Some off and on mixed sleet and drizzle in JP.
In case you didn’t see it above, Logan did have snow.
I just did see that.
We had a great trip to Banff and Lake Louise, Alberta last week. The Canadian Rockies are absolutely spectacular and I highly recommend visiting if you havent been before and get the chance.
We skiied one day at Banff Sunshine and two days at Lake Louise. Weather all three days was variable…we’d be in the clouds and snowing hard one minute and then 30 minutes later the skies would part and the sun would come out, yielding amazing views. Temps were seasonable in the 20’s for the most part.
Here are a few pictures from Lake Louise Ski resort:

WOW!!!! Absolutely Spectacular shots!!! thanks for sharing!!!
Stunning photos, Mark. What an awsome trip.
35.5 here in JP and it is now SNOWING lightly.
And they were real snow flakes, not snizzly ones.
35 here in Quincy but still plain drizzle for the most part. I was outside very briefly and while stretching out my arms I did notice one or two teeny tiny ice pellets on my coat but that’s a stretch for now.
Even if Logan (Boston) has snow and/or sleet falling in the air, it still has to leave some coating on the ground to “officially” report as a Trace. Otherwise it would still officially be measured as 0.0” snow for March 2025.
I hope Boston can get that “Trace”. Jacob’s snow graph this morning looked very sad and embarrassing showing 0.0”. It would be the first time in Boston’s weather history to not have at least a Trace of snow for the month of March.
No, it does not. They have a trace. I already said it.
This is NOT the first month without a trace of snow at Boston. They already recorded a trace today.
They’ll be something in the air…
https://radar.weather.gov/station/KBOX/standard
Let me reiterate, again, and be perfectly clear.
The snow that fell at Boston will be recorded as a trace.
Boston WILL NOT have 0.0. It will go down as T.
Hey, I heard you the 1st time.

I know you did.
The definition of a trace of snow is very clear: “snow that does NOT reach 0.1 inch, including snow that melts as it falls.”
This is straight from the authority, NWS.
Excellent.
I learn something about weather every day here at WHW. All this time, I thought that any snow had to leave “something” on the ground but obviously not. So even “melted” precipitation counts. I had no idea.
Thanks again and again TK!

No problem. I’m here to educate whenever I can.
I would have guessed that it would be something like “including snow that melts on contact with the ground.”
“Melts as it falls” seems to include snow that melts at any altitude in the atmosphere.
Ok TK. Got it! Thanks!

Speaking of education, I referenced this earlier, but this is a pretty cool write-up from Weather Underground regarding temperature swings and contrasts…
