Monday March 31 2025 Forecast (7:11AM)

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 31 – APRIL 4)

Dense fog greets many early this morning, especially just north of an advancing warm front. This front will get north of the region soon and put an end to the fog blanket. Lots of clouds will dominate today but it will be much warmer than yesterday, even if it doesn’t seem that way north of the front early on. A band of rain and embedded thunderstorms will accompany the passage of a cold front tonight. Dry, cooler weather greets the first of April. Another low pressure area passes to our north at midweek. Its warm front returns clouds to the region Wednesday with some nighttime precipitation (some frozen potential north, rain south). Briefly warmer on Thursday but rain showers will be around with a cold front sagging through the region. This front doesn’t get too far to the south on Friday, but far enough that dry weather returns in time for the Red Sox home opener, along with air that is relatively mild for early April!

TODAY: Widespread fog with areas of drizzle through mid morning, then mostly cloudy with a chance of a few passing rain showers. Highs ranging from near 50-57 South Coast, 58-65 most areas, except 65-72 potential interior valleys with any breaks of sun. Wind nearly calm early, then S increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.

TONIGHT: Cloudy. Rain showers likely including a chance of thunderstorms, ending from west to east overnight. Lows 42-49. Wind S 10-20 MPH, higher gusts, shifting to W from west to east.

TUESDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 48-55. Wind W to NW 10-20 MPH and gusty.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 25-32. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Increasing clouds. Highs 40-47. Wind NE up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. A period of snow/mix/rain likely. Lows 33-40. Wind E up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partial sun morning. Mostly cloudy with rain showers afternoon. Highs 55-62, cooler South Coast. Wind variable becoming SW 10-20 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with rain showers ending in the evening. Partly cloudy overnight. Patchy fog developing. Lows 45-52. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 55-62. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 5-9)

Cooler, unsettled April 5-6 weekend with a frontal boundary in the region – details TBD. Dry, cool weather early to mid next week.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 10-14)

Cool pattern, another low pressure system impacts region around mid period, details also TBD.

  1. Thanks TK !

As you mentioned, with the warm front north of Marshfield, the fog is gone.

Mid 50s currently, feels a lot more like Spring than the weekend did.

  2. Thanks, TK

We’re all “busting our buttons” proud today as MHS alum Sean Newcomb starts for the Boston Red Sox this afternoon against the Baltimore Orioles in Camden Yards. They moved first pitch up to 2:35 with rain and storms in the forecast.

Here’s the sign out in front of our school today:

    1. Baltimore forecast:

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Southwest wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

    2. This is so great. I wish Sean the very best. Will they schools be watching or will most kids be home?

      1. School is dismissed in 15 minutes at 1:50. I would assume that most would be home. Because Baltimore is the home team, he pitches “second.”

  3. Red Sox need to acquire some new “bats” if you know what I mean. 😉

Yankees had a big hit parade over the weekend! 🙁

    1. They acquired Bregman which is a good start. The offense is still abit lackluster for my taste. I miss the Ortiz and Ramirez duo and the days with Betts and JD Martinez were also sweet. Those were fun lineups.

  4. I was noticing the temperatures in Greenland yesterday and noticed some mid 30 to low 40s below zero. That seems extraordinarily cold for this time of year in that region. Was this recent high way to the north colder than normal? How long will this pattern remain? Looking for hope of warmer days..

  5. When I mentioned “bats” I meant literally “baseball bats.” The New York Yankees lineup now use Louisville Slugger “Voltage” baseball bats and all weekend have been hitting and scoring tons of runs. They scored 20 in one game. The bats are perfectly legal under MLB rules.

I’m surprised no one here has heard of this. It was all over the media over the weekend. I heard about it and I don’t really keep up with MLB like I used to.

    1. I get ya! Well if the Yankees scored crazy because of the “bats” then I think pitchers across the league would go on strike! In all seriousness, if it were that easy to score with these bats every team would adopt them.

  6. Thanks, TK. it is 61 here in Sudbury. Mostly cloudy and mild but a bit breezy. Sky looks weird but pretty. Hard to describe. Some dark clouds but bright spots.

  7. If Texas defeats TCU and if USC beats UConn in women’s college basketball this evening, the Final Four in BOTH men & women will be comprised of four #1 seeds. I haven’t followed closely enough to know when the last time that happened is…

In NCAA hockey’s Frozen Four, the quartet is comprised of Western Michigan, Denver, Boston University, & Penn State.

Western Michigan will face Denver in game 1 and BU takes on Penn State in game 2 on April 10.

The winners of these 2 games will play for the championship 2 nights later on April 12. I’m inclined to root for BU since they are “local” but I love underdogs ,and both Penn State & Western Michigan got here as #4 seeds (there are only 4 in each bracket to start). I’ve a feeling, however, Denver is destined to do it. I have a feeling we’ll be hearing the name Zeev Buium a lot in the future.

Also, in NHL news, Alex Ovechkin is 5 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s goal scoring record. It’ll happen before the playoffs, IMO.

  8. Last time all four one seeds made the men’s final four was in 2008 in San Antonio where the final four is this year.

  9. A little bit under-achieving on the potential for high temps today, but still pretty mild away from any ocean influence!

This is the final day of March and it just so happens that this is also the day I am dipping my feet in Atlantic water, which I have to do at least once a month through the year. Haven’t done it this month yet, so today it is…

    1. Made 63 here. I was out to the store this afternoon without a jacket or coat and was perfectly comfortable. For the last day of March, I’ll take 63 any day!!!!!

  10. I also just found out that those “Voltage” bats were developed by an MIT grad no less. 🙁

    Traitor!

  11. Vicki – I just noticed your post above. Thank you so very much.

We are having a wonderful time on the Cape. The weather has been cooperating. Today we went to the White Ceder Swamp Trail in Wellfleet and the Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Then we went to Nauset Beach where the wind was a little much. But, the parking was not bad 🙂

    1. I always second guess myself and wonder if I have the incorrect date. Phew.

And Empty parking spaces and man eating sharks. Hmmmm could there be a connection.

Just kidding. Sounds as if you are having a spectacular anniversary celebration.

  12. Looks as if there has been lightning in CT for a while now. JimmyJames, hope you had a show. Maybe Mark too and maybe SC west of me

    1. Ugh ugh ugh. Just looked at radar and systems with lightning are now traveling SW to NE ……west of here Sniff

  13. 28 years ago at the time of this posting, a raging blizzard was happening across most of SNE.

It was exciting and scary at the same time. ❄️ 🙂
