The Week Ahead

8:50PM

The next 7 days will feature weather that would be expected to occur in late August. The most “eventful” day will be Monday, as low pressure offshore tracks close enough to bring some rain to southeastern areas especially RI, southeastern MA, Cape Cod, & The Islands. Some light rain or sprinkles may push a little further west and north than these areas. Another low pressure area will track offshore Wednesday but probably too far out to impact the land areas with any precipitation. On a couple occasions, a few air mass showers or storms may be found over inland locations especially Tuesday & Wednesday. High pressure will be more dominant the second half of the week with little if any rain and fairly warm temperatures along with some humidity.

Forecast for eastern MA, southern NH, and RI…

OVERNIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 55-60 except 60-65 urban areas. Wind calm.

MONDAY: Mostly cloudy. Periods of rain especially RI through southeastern MA midday on, and just a chance of a few sprinkles or a period of light rain other areas late afternoon. Highs from 72-77 south of Boston to 77-82 north and west of Boston. Wind light S.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly to partly cloudy. Lows in the 60s. Wind light variable.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated to scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Highs 75-80 coast and Cape Cod, 80-85 elsewhere. . Wind S-SW 5-10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated PM thunderstorms. Low 66. High 82.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 64. High 83.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 64. High 84.

SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 65. High 85.

  1. Thanks TK ! Sky has cleared some and with the light wind, it has cooled off nicely. Feels great !! Our A/C has been off 2 straight days now and its nice to enjoy the fresh, cool air.

  2. Currently….. Marshfield, MA : 61F, Barrow, AK : 64F.

Earlier this month, there was a very strong storm that hit the Arctic. It had a very low pressure and thus, a lot of wind. Based on what I’ve read, wind in the Arctic during summer can really affect sea ice………After the storm departed, a lot of ice in the area the storm was in had decreased in coverage. On the arctic sea ice website that I like, they mentioned that they weren’t 100% sure if the ice outright melted or was moved by the wind, etc. In any event, in the very brief time that ice has been tracked, 2007 had the lowest amount of ice in the arctic in Sept. and based on how close its to that level now, there’s a chance that the 2007 low will be beaten this September.

    1. Thank you Tom

I feel as if we were all just wishing you a fun summer vacation. When do teachers have to go back?

    1. I agree but southern new England’s time if we are gonna get hit by a landfalling hurricane it’s usually Aug/Sept, beyond that it’s rare, that means we have 6 weeks to get a hurricane 🙂

  3. “The next 7 days will feature weather” – That sounds like this coming week is a TV show.
Love it! Haha! 🙂 With Mother Nature as the director and meteorologists as the people on the show (no control, but you have a much better idea of what is going to happen than those who aren’t behind the scenes haha)!

    Thanks TK 🙂

  4. It appears issac will go into the gulf with the latest guidance, personally I think that doesn’t get close to us as a hurricane 🙂

  5. Thanks TK

Lots of clouds here this morning. The river is absolutely calm – like looking in a mirror and ocean is equally quiet. Low of 60 overnight dP is 59.

  6. Forgot. Monday is a good day to have clouds and/or rain after two days of outside and yesterday’s of solid sun. Thanks for arranging it TK 🙂 🙂

  7. Last couple days of model runs for guidance on “Issac” have not been very impressive. I think it interacts with land once it gets beyond the Lesser Antilles and never really has a chance to get its act together.

  8. Henry Margusity belives that Isaac could be a threat for the east, especially Florida. He is also concerned that if not Isaac, other tropical systems will come up the coast and bring flooding to much of the east sooner or later. Hope that never verifies.

I really hope that, for a change, this nice dry air can last the entire week…if not a bit longer. 🙂

  9. Let’s see if we can keep a -QBO this winter(favors a warm stratosphere), to combine with the el nino. Not sure what would happen, but could be interesting.

      1. Funny thing is I thought the unusually warm days tossed into the mix last winter made it interesting. Just in a different way. But now I’m ready for some real winter

  10. My forecast for today never really did work out. It was close, in terms of rain, but it stayed south and east. I’m sure most people didn’t complain about missing a wet afternoon.

Updating now. Looks dry for days.

        1. Hi north. Thank you. We are having a wonderful time. Son came down after work and we just came in from the deck where we have been talking and watching the river.
