The last of the rain is exiting Cape Cod now, with the only other threat of any wet weather being in the form of an isolated shower over inland areas later this afternoon and maybe toward the coastal plain around sunset as some instability clouds pop up where sun is out longest well northwest of Boston, then drift southeastward before dissipating.
The upcoming week looks dry, at least through the work week and likely into if not all the way through next weekend (we’ll watch a frontal system approaching later in the weekend based on current timing). This forecast will cover through Saturday but I will add Sunday on later today when The Week Ahead is posted.
Forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southern NH…
THIS AFTERNOON: Lingering very light rain exits Outer Cape Cod first thing, clouds hang on in much of the region as a clearing line slowly approaches from the west, but sun coming out well northwest of Boston will trigger developing cumulus clouds and possibly a few pop up showers. Most areas rain free. Drier and cooler. Highs 70-77, coolest north and east facing coastal areas. Wind N to NE up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy with an isolated shower eastern areas early then clearing finally. Low from the upper 40s inland cool spots to middle 50s urban centers. Wind N under 10 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 70-75. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows from the middle 40s inland valleys to 50-55 coastal and urban areas. Wind NW under 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 70-75. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 50. High 78.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 53. High 81.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 58. High 83.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 60. High 80.
Thanks TK for not mentioning the word “fall” in your update. For me, until we see persistant high temps under 70 and overnight lows (for Boston) under 55 then we can talk about using the f-word. 😉
AFAIC this week is nothing more than a pleasantly cool late summer air mass that we used to have in Augusts of the past. 🙂
I like pre-fall better than late summer. Odd how my mind works. Both mean the same; however, pre-fall has the promise of great things to come as well as a new beginning. Sad isn’t it 😉
Everyone ready for the game? Food and assorted beers are ready here!!
I remember “pre-fall” was mid-late August but nowadays we seem to get what I call “just below normal summer temps” in September. I have a bad feeling our climate is changing…and maybe not for the better.
I am ALWAYS ready for the Pats…food or no food. 🙂
Philip I remember far different seasons also and agree they appear to be changing. I lOve each for what it offers but always anticipate the change. It’s what I
Feel is the best of new England.
My use of season labels is always somewhat loose. Fall can be Sep 1-Nov 30, the astronomical Fall, football season, etc. .. The simple fact is, the climate is what it is and the weather is what it is. We’ll have more days that are 80+ and humid, be they before or after the Autumnal Equinox. And Charlie will enjoy his morning lows in the 40s the next couple days. It’s weather, and it changes. It changes season to season. It changes month to month, week to week, day to day, hour to hour, and sometimes within minutes. It’s weather. I forecast it, not always accurately, but I try. It’s just weather, and I just love it. 🙂
I don’t mind Sundays that are slightly cooler 🙂 It’s better to sleep in 🙂
Pats looked tough today.
Love Ridley. Think they were making a point to Welker. Nice game !!
gave me some much needed fantasy points 😉
some nice hits to did not really let them get anymore yards after the catch
Did I miss the quiz answer.
What a night. We sat outside and just soaked in the sun and nice crisp-ish air after the game.
RGIII!!!
Nice job Pats as well.

Correct answer to the quiz is Winter.
During which season is the Jet Stream strongest in the Northern Hemisphere?
1) Summer
2) Fall
3) Winter
4) Spring
I finally got one right!!
Congrats and thank you, Longshot!!! And congrats to those who also got it right. I didn’t see all of the answers but believe rainshine was one who said winter !!
Hello, everyone! Been a while since I’ve commented and just wanted to say I hope you’re all doing well.
Today’s weather was downright perfect. I took a motorcycle ride up to the summit of Mount Wachusett. It was gorgeous — crisp, comfortable air, puffy clouds, and a view that stretched as far as Boston! Saw four golden eagles and a whole slew of odd insects. If any of you have a free afternoon I really recommend taking a drive (or a hike)!
I love the top of that mountain but have only been up there 2 times. I need to fix that issue.
Thanks for checking in and as always thanks for reading!
hiked it a few weeks ago. i am hoping to take a hike while the foilage is at peek.
Hi Christie………your day sounds perfect. I will remind my son. Wachusett is a wonderfully close hike!
and a good ski area durring the winter. its close and is like my version of nashoba i go there all the time.
