2 On, 2 Off

3:01AM

We now settle into a pattern of 2 fair days & 2 unsettled days that, depending on timing, may last into if not through next weekend.

High pressure hangs on for 2 more very nice days today and Monday. A large low pressure trough digging through the middle of the country will edge eastward Tuesday into midweek, sending a zone of unsettled weather ahead of it into the region Tuesday & Wednesday. This should get far enough east for a sliver of high pressure to bring 2 nicer days to end the work week, before the next trough and front approach by next weekend.

Forecast for eastern MA, southern NH, and RI…

TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 66-71. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 43-48 inland valleys to 49-54 coast and urban centers. Wind light variable.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 70-75. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. PM showers. Low 60. High 73.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. AM rain. Low 57. High 69.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 48. High 67.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 47. High 72.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. PM showers. Low 56. High 72.

  1. Thanks TK.
Going to enjoy the next two days before its turns a little stormy around here late Tuesday into Wednesday with the POTENTIAL for heavy rain, gusty winds, and maybe some thunderstorms as well. I don’t see any severe storms with the storm system. It looks like the severe weather if there is going to be any will be in the Mid Atlantic and to our west.

    1. I agree about the t-storm risk. The big question with this upcoming event is timing of arrival and departure of heaviest showers.

  2. Beautiful morning here along the coast of Biddeford, ME. We are staying at a friends house right along the rocky shoreline. This place is beautiful! We tracked the sunrise using a iPhone app which was really cool. The waves have become remarkably bigger over night and as I was typing this I had too move back from the rocks. Lol! A coupe of 6 footers came rolling in one after another.

    1. I see I have to teach you to be a true New Englander, Em. This is, in fact, one of the “fair” days. Those clouds in the sky are called “fair weather clouds”. They are a frequent visitor. Sometimes they anger people when they spread out and take the sky over for a few hours during peak sun hours, but they are a fact of life, and we are better off embracing their beauty rather than curse their presence. At least that’s my opinion on the matter.

But if you want the truth, the only reason there are lots of those clouds in the sky right now is that I just put my new solar ground lights outside in the “sun” to charge the batteries fully. 😉

        1. Well since then we have seen a decrease in fair weather cloud coverage here. The lights are now in full sun and charging!

  3. TK. A client is having a meeting in concord MA wed and thurs. there is a walking tour of concord scheduled for late afternoon wed. What are chances of heavy rain then? Thank you

    1. To let you know, I’m currently siding with the slightly more progressive GFS over the Euro, in regards to the band of heaviest rain for the Tue/Wed event. I can say with low to moderate confidence that it should be dry in the late afternoon hours (that is, no rain falling). But I can also say with decent confidence that it is going to be a very close call. Tens of miles difference west and the rain band is still over eastern MA. Please check back on this one…

  4. If there was ever a game we didn’t deserve to win. That was it. And good grief can they get the regular refs back.

    1. yeah that holding call in the end zone. was stupid. We need the old refs back why did they replace them with jokes

  5. Well, one thing for sure – the game isn’t over ’til it’s over – and it looked like we could have won. Last seconds – too bad. Well, the season is young.

Another gem of a day weather-wise!

    1. Agree rainshine. They did at the end what has been working for them too well to have given up on it for the first 9/10ths of the game. Hopefully they see that and as the old saying goes …..you can’t win em all

      Spectacular weather day.

  6. There was no reason whatsoever that I could tell why Gostkowski hooked that field goal…not even subtle pressure from the Cardinals defense.

Can’t blame the replacement refs for that…the goat horns go to Gostkowski!

Having said all that, I had a bad feeling when the TD run was called back a few plays earlier. Unfortunately Gostkowski was probably due for a miss. 🙁

      1. I’m never glad anyone loses. They got a bit carried away with new offensive ideas. Why I have no idea. They’ll figure it out. Down the middle. They have gronkowski and Welker and Lloyd and Ridley.

      1. @ Baltimore next weekend. Thats not easy, they well could be 1-2 after week 3. Even if that happens, I think they’ll be fine.

  7. Now back to weather discussion.

The skies were nice and blue such that the only thing missing were some reds, oranges and yellows. I hope we can get some color going before months end with some serious early morning chill. 🙂

  8. Down the Cape this weekend….. Saturday morning, we were on the beach about 10:30 am when a thin line of extremely dark clouds passed overhead. Almost simultaneously, the wind came around to the northwest and the temps quickly fell through the 60s. Then, as the skies seemingly brightened, a two minute heavy shower hit. It was followed by sharp clearing around 1pm and then today was a great beach day with the warm sun offsetting an occasional cool breeze. The water on the south side, Nantucket Sound, is still fairly mild, I’m guessing pretty close to 70F.

    1. I didn’t want a perfect season anyway…we all know how THAT turned out. 😉

I always felt 11-5 this season anyway. In the division they’re in, the playoffs are pretty much a given.

  9. One final football comment.

BB needs to trust Ridley a lot more. Maybe I am remebering wrong, but I don’t recall Ridley’s fumbles costing them any games. He really should have been playing in the SB vs. the Giants. BB tends to have trust issues with rookies. In the previous SB, he didn’t trust Gostkowski when he was a rookie. Instead they went for it on 4th and long and Brady’s pass fell incomplete…not even close IIRC.

  10. The GFS & Euro have the same idea but are singing different tunes about the coming week. Once I figure out which one I think is more sane, I’ll venture into The Week Ahead.

      1. At this early stage I think we have to bring some type of disturbance through here, with the mean trough to the west. The question will be amplitude and trough axis position. I think the Euro is a more pessimistic model in this case. Question is, does it have the right solution?

        1. If the Euro has the worst scenario, then I guess any outdoor plans are pretty much washed out. The Euro is always the model of choice for you, correct? 🙁

          1. Except when I think it’s not handling the situation correctly, and this may be one of those times. I think it’s overdoing the blocking & amplitude.

              1. Well not totally. When you take into account that it may only be wet Tuesday night & Wednesday morning then one more round of showers sometime around Saturday, the week overall won’t be that bad.

  11. I believe more rain north and west of Boston, but I think south of Boston gets less but still a beneficial inch or so of rain while north and west gets 1+ of rain

        1. Hope it’s a good busy. Did you see the sky scraper they want to put in where the old Filene’s was in downtown crossing. I thought of you!!!

    1. That is good to hear.

About next weekend, does the Euro sometimes have a bias toward a deeper trough a week out.

  12. Another perfect morning!

Did longshot post the quiz answer and I missed it? I love quizzes. We have watched jeopardy every night as long as I can remember!!!
