  1. Thanks for the update TK. Hopefully we get at least some sun this afternoon but im not counting on it. Sundays seem to be shaping up lately to be cool and damp.

I know a few of us, myself included, who have commented on the foliage being kinda, eh. Not sure the legitimacy of this site, but did a search on the dull fall colors this year and came up with this interesting story.

    http://www.tgdaily.com/sustainability-features/66440-are-new-england-fall-colors-set-to-disappear

    1. Warm frontal rain ended up more widespread and substantial than I had forecast. Soaking morning here. Becoming more spotty now but still damp. One more batch of rain sliding along the MA/NH border through early afternoon and from there mostly just isolated showers as we get deeper into the warm sector.

  2. The actual front seems to be sitting near the Pike. There is a line of showers there, lifting slowly NE as the shower cells in it move rapidly to the E with the mid level winds. Still socked in N of the Pike and it is still quite cool here with areas of rain. How much sun pops out in areas north of the Mass Pike later remains to be seen.

  3. I am quite hopeful that after the brief chill of yesterday and soaking rains of today, we will be richly rewarded with lush fall foliage by the end of the week into the rest of the month. 🙂

After all, it can’t be any worse than last year’s disgusting foliage.

  4. We did not see a soaking rain here. We only ended up with .03. Sun is trying to break out right now with a temp of 63.

    1. Sun trying to break out here in Boston as well with a temp of 58. I am somewhat surprised though that we haven’t cracked 60 yet.

  5. Definately in the warm sector, temps up to 70 here in North Attleboro with sunshine. The air has a summery haze look to it. Pats on soon 🙂

  6. Per Taunton Climo data……

Logan’s avgs for the coming week :

    Mon. 10/15 : 62F / 47F

    Sun 10/21 : 60F / 45F

I think the sunrise is nearly at 7am and in 3 weeks, just before daylight savings time ends, reaches 7:20 am….which is later than at anytime during early January.

  7. So I know the latest CPC is predicting these WELL above avg. temps for the next 10-14 days, but other than today and maybe tomorrow, im not seeing these well above temps. If our avg for this week is between 60-62 deg as Tom said, it looks like we will be right around there this week with maybe a couple days 2 or 3 deg above that, but nothing too crazy.

I know we have talked about this before, but what defines an Indian Summer? And is there any data out there on the severity of a winter following an Indian Summer?

    1. I thought it was unusually warm weather following a freeze. I seem to remember here are many definitions. At one point I seem to remember it could not be until November

Now there is a definitive answer. 🙂

    2. Indian summer. Tempature needs too be over 70 for seven days, and hasto come after the first frost in the northeast. It can last on and off from October till November.

          1. John, I’m getting nervous about this game. The Pats should be up at least another 2 field goals……if the offense gives the ball back, I dont trust the defense.

  8. NOAA says Indian Summer- An unseasonably warm period near the middle of autumn, usually following a substantial period of cool weather.

    Nothing about a freeze. Hmmm

    1. And wiki says

An Indian summer is a period of unseasonably warm, dry weather, occurring after the end of summer proper. The US National Weather Service defines this as where the weather is sunny and clear, and above 21 °C (70 °F), after there has been a sharp frost; a period normally associated with late-October to mid-November.[1]

This is what I do when I can’t watch the game. So maybe I’m a tinsy bit nervous 🙁

  9. defense needs to get better and so does the offensive line. At least next week we have a shot of breaking 2 records

  10. As much as I love Brady, he was horid in the fourth. Another game they should have won. Those jets games can be dog fights, not good.
