    1. Happy Mother’s Day, Vicki – and to the mothers in your family, too! Hope the new additions to your family are doing well! πŸ™‚

      1. Thanks rainshine. I hope you are Well and your husband is very much improved. Is cara now the queen of her new home :D.

        1. Thanks for asking – husband much better due to steroid injection done at Newton-Wellesley hosp. on Thurs. I am ok – allergies just lousy – Cara is fine – she has us “under her paws” now! πŸ™‚

    1. My mom always told me the rain on Mothers Day symbolizes tears that moms shed for their children. That was the inspiration for my FB post earlier, in case you missed it. πŸ™‚

  1. I just want to echo the Happy Mother’s Day sentiment to all the wonderful Mothers
out there in blog land. πŸ˜€

  2. I remember when I was a kid a bunch of mothers days in a row it would be pouring on our way to brunch at Ma Glockner’s restaurant. This morning reminds me of those days, without the restaurant sadly as it closed a few years ago.

    1. Ma Glockner’s….Ah get bring up old memories.

Believe it or not, I’ve never been there, only passed by the sign
on rt. 126 a zillion times and drove by it once or twice.

Btw, I found this. Since Ma’s is closed, there is a restaurant
in Woonsocket, RI that serves MA’s special.

I have been to this restaurant. Very good with outstanding views
      of the Blackstone river.

      1. It brought back memories for me too and we were only there once and I have no idea why we never went back. Thanks for the link OS. May be near my daughters. I will check it out

      2. Nice! Thanks Old Salty! My mom will be thrilled, we’ll have to check it out soon. I miss the cinnamon buns the most.

  3. Charles River Dams.

Vicki pointed out the one I wasn’t sure about, namely Wellesley. Hadn’t a chance
to verify, but I think it might be right near rt. 16 and rt 128. Assuming it is there,
then here the ones I know about starting at the source in Hopkinton:

    Bellingham
    Medway
    Natick
    Needham
Dedham (doesn’t dam the whole river, just a small portion to flow into and become
the Mother Brook which empties into the Neponset River in Hyde Park)
    Newton (upper Falls)
    Newton (Lower Falls)
    Wellesley
    Waltham
    Watertown
Boston at the Museum of Science

And I wouldn’t be surprised if There is another. Anyone know? πŸ˜€

    1. Oh my I knew about Watertown and museum of science and Waltham by the old Grover cronins. And I should have known the two newton falls just by guessing. I can’t believe you know that many. Wow. I also didnt know there were that many.

      1. I have fished above or below or both at at least 5 of these. πŸ˜€
        Probably missing one. πŸ˜€

        1. I thought there was a dam somewhere near the Hunnewell estate in wellesley. And the name corsdingly comes to mind. This is all from memory of stories my mom or dad told me.

    2. I just checked an atlas of mine. Hmm there “may” be as many as 2 more
in Medway and perhaps one in Milford.

Some day a road trip to see. πŸ˜€

  4. I thought i liked all types of weather but will have to admit there is one type of weather I absolutely do not like. This is it. I don’t mind the rain or the clouds or the wind. I like all of those. But the damp, clammy feel is just plain nasty. My hair feels like a helmet uh ugh ugh ugh πŸ™‚

    1. Ugh, I hear u Vicki, opening the windows doesnt help either. I had to switch on the AC in the house just to get rid of the dampness but didnt last long.

  5. Longshot am I correct that you live in newton area? Do you know what the water is that divides albemarle st? I always wondered

  6. This is a repost of today’s Accuweather Trivia Quiz. from previous blog.

A backdoor cold front generally moves toward the…

    A. North
    B. East
    C. Southeast
    D. Southwest

    Answer later today.

  7. Thanks TK and OS. Ill cover my peonies as buds are formed. Does anyone know about hydrangeas and boomerang lilacs.

  8. I have now had it with the “noses” falling from our maple. They cover the deck and everything on it in minutes. They get between the decking. I just hosed them all off and Just as many have returned. Mac was standing in the window watching laughing at me. The window is now hosed clean πŸ™‚

  9. From today till June 21st there is only an available 40 min of daylight to gain, pool temp is 63 degrees

    1. Good thing that pool water is over 60 otherwise you’d have a thin coating of ice on it Tuesday morning. πŸ˜‰

  10. Answer totoday’s Accuweather Trivia Quiz.

A backdoor cold front generally moves toward the…

    A. North
    B. East
    C. Southeast
    D. Southwest

I think everyone was correct — the answer is D.

            1. This is a repost – just a silly question.

Longshot am I correct that you live in newton area? Do you know what the water is that divides albemarle st? I always wondered

  11. I wouldn’t worry about it Vicki, I’ve never had a problem since Ive been planting flowers or the garden since 01, there’s been a number of freezes or frost over the years and they have never effected them in anyway, irrigation does turn on to water the flowers and lawn from 4-7am so maybe that’s why idk but never a problem, I find frost and freeze warnings from mid April on dont affect them hence why I plant everything in mid April

    1. Thanks charlie. We do not have irrigation and I think that is definitely part of it. We lost all buds a few years back on the peonies along with bleeding hearts and various other plants. I can’t remember about hydrangeas and we have not had the bloomerangs at this time of year before.

  12. JJ. Did you get a chance to see Freddie’s hall of fame speech. He is one special person. I’m still crying.

  13. Crappy morning, great afternoon. Went to lilac festival at the arboretum and it was beautiful.

    1. We went to mt auburn cemetery and everything is in full bloom. It is beautiful.

Hadi what is the body of water along rt 9 just before getting to Boston? Its lovely. We never drive that way

  14. Vicki I think you are. Referring to the resvoir near chestnut hill. Not sure what the exact name is.

  15. Vicki, are you referring to Albemarle Rd? I think one end of it starts at the Charles River.

    1. Yes that’s it, Longshot. Is that part of the Charles that runs up the middle of Albemarle Rd?

See what you started OS? Now I’m curious about some of the water areas I’ve seen for years and never taken the time to figure what they are πŸ™‚
