The Week Ahead

11:28PM

This will be a decent week by the standards of many, not because we have 7 stellar days coming up, but because we will be in a somewhat unsettled pattern that will produce some beneficial rain but not a bunch of washouts, and things may turn really nice in time for the weekend. Here is the best guess on the players and plays, day by day:

Monday…Low pressure moving eastward through the Ohio Valley & Great Lakes extends its warm front toward New England and increases the clouds during the day, with some rain following mainly at night.

Tuesday…Low pressure moves eastward acrossΒ  northern New England and the St. Lawrence River Valley by late in the day or at night, sending an occluding front (cold front overtaking warm front) across the region. Not sure how much of the forecast area gets into the true warm air. Will go for it at this time. Either way, a very unsettled day with numerous showers and thunderstorms. The potential for heavy rain of 1 to 2 inches or greater is there. The potential for severe weather is also there, but this would be more likely well inland and well southwest of Boston in areas that would be in the warm sector for longer. This potential will be watched closely.

Wednesday…Low pressure starts to move away but a lingering upper level trough and additional disturbance will trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms in still somewhat warm/humid air.

Thursday…A front stalls south and southeast of New England and with some southwesterly upper level flow, clouds will probably dominate. A shower threat should be confined to the South Coast and Cape Cod.

Friday…A little lingering upper trough and one final disturbance may produce some clouds, but probably a nice day overall. Showers should be in the mountains to the north.

Weekend…Early call is for high pressure to dominate with great late Spring/early Summer weather!

Detailed forecast for southeastern New England (southern NH, RI, and eastern MA)…

OVERNIGHT: High clouds arrive west to east. Lows 55-60, some lower 60s urban centers. Wind NW under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Increasing clouds. Rain may arrive well west and southwest of Boston late day. Highs near 70 immediate coast to upper 70s inland. Wind variable to SE 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Cloudy with episodic rain. Embedded thunderstorms included late. Lows in the 60s. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Frequent showers with scattered thunderstorms embedded. Heavy downpours may lead to local flooding of rivers and streams. Highs 70-75 except 60s South Coast. Wind SE shifting to SW 10-15 MPH, higher gusts.

WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Scattered showers/thunderstorms. Low 62. High 81.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Isolated showers. Low 58. High 76.

FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Low 56. High 78.

SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 58. High 80.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 62. High 82.

  1. Thanks TK!
I feel like I am being eased into summer at this point…like dipping my feet in the pool.
I love the rain, and the warm weather, and variables… I have to keep remembering it is still “spring” πŸ˜‰

  2. Thanks TK – I’m not sure if you will see this – but did you watch the Pirates of the Caribbean movies? I watched the first one (rewatched) yesterday and if you didn’t see them this won’t mean a thing but I had to replay it to make sure I’d heard correctly. When Jack Sparrow returns from the deserted Island where Barbossa had put him for the second time, Barbossa looked at him (dumbfounded) and said “It’s not possible.” Sparrow replied…”No, it’s not probable.”

  3. Another movie to avoid:

    The Internship

Mildly entertaining, Nothing substantial, A decent TV movie is all it is.

    Vince Vaughn is irritatingly insane.

  4. From NWS this morning:

ALL IN ALL…WE HAVE A STRONG LOW LEVEL JET AND A FOCUS FOR THE
PRECIPITATION WHICH IS THE BOUNDARY TO OUR SOUTH. COMBINED THAT
WITH A JUICED ATMOSPHERE GIVEN THE HIGH PWATS…THE STAGE IS SET FOR
ANOTHER HEAVY RAIN EVENT. WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED TO SEE SOME INCH
PER HOUR RAINFALL RATES IN HEAVY SHOWERS TONIGHT. GIVEN THE GROUND
IS SATURATED AND RIVER LEVELS ARE RUNNING HIGH FROM THE RECENT
HEAVY RAIN OF A FEW DAYS AGO HAVE HOISTED A FLOOD WATCH. THE FLOOD
WATCH INCLUDES ALL OF OUR REGION EXCEPT THE CAPE AND ISLANDS.

  5. Thanks TK! Good Monday morning all πŸ™‚ My plants are loving all this rain, but so are the pesky insects. At least we’re not dealing with Monster Mosquitoes… yet!

  6. We drove down Pelham Island Road in Wayland on Saturday. It’s the road that is always cut off by the Sudbury River when there is a lot of rain. They had the duck boats there a couple of years ago to transport residents across the flooded area. The river has a way to go still to get close to the street although it doesn’t usually come to its highest level until a day or so after the rains.

On a curious note, I would love to know the history of that road since its name indicates that it in fact would have a history of being an island. Making me also wonder why anyone built there ??

    1. Throughout History, people have built in the inappropriate locations. πŸ˜€

Right on the ocean, on River flood plains, in earth quake prone areas, in Tornado prone areas etc etc etc.

Humans never learn and they tend to build where ever they please. πŸ˜€

  7. Thanks TK !

Big blob of heavy rains/storms south of NYC. I wonder if that stuff maintains, as it slowly heads towards the northeast ?

  8. Boston will have above average rainfall for the year 2013 by the end of today, crazy stuff !!

  9. Both 12z EURO and GFS have come closer to the coast for later this week, with a fairly decent ocean storm …. 996mb, if I’m recalling correctly, along with an impressive rain shield on its northwestern side.

      1. Yes, however, in the day 6-10 period on the EURO, the heights definitely rise some in the east, so perhaps a fulltime switch to summer mode. I think New England’s true summer weather always kicks in around or a few days past the solstice, so this timing seems about right.

  10. UGH another rainorama! Thunderstorm Index just at a one for tonight and tomorrow since any thunderstorm activity will remain below severe levels.

  11. Light to moderate rain, things weren’t even able to dry out before more rain esp in the more shady areas, geeez

  12. So how do you justify the Tebow signing? Last year everyone in NE was killing him now he is a Patriot…….hmmmmmmm let’s see the spin that comes from Foxboro!

  13. Come on Charlie, you “love it”. Really? A circus more than a guy who can cut it in this league.

    1. Hehehehe. You really are not a pats fan are you.

Not sure why anyone would spin anything. Lets see how he does. He has the potential to fill several positions. We are not the Jets !

  14. Just for mini camp (for now).

It’s just a player, for a team, and they are testing him. Nothing more, nothing less.

      1. I did. I have never seen the movie but I do understand the meaning of what was said. πŸ™‚

  15. I knew hadi would come around lol he hates the Patriots but that’s ok, in New England there will be no circus, he will be a HB and if he don’t work out you cut em, love the deal, and i agree with tk, will see what happens, I will be at the mini camps in a month, can’t wait!!

  16. TK what are your thoughts for the rain tonight in North Attleboro. Sump pump is finally receding after Friday’s storm, don’t want to put it over the edge tonight. So far .13 here.

  17. Once again Charlie I don’t hate the Patriots. I just think at some point you all have to realize that BB is not making the best choice at this point in his career. I know to you all that is blasfamy but at some point you all have to realize that with the team you have you should won more than 3 Super Bowls. Now think to yourself why? Not Brady and not the rest of the players. What is BB doing to get the franchise ready for post Brady?

And lastly Charlie I DO NOT HATE THE PATS!!

    1. hadi. they have been making second string QBs first string QBs. The back ups are learning and getting better

  18. I’m not sure what Tebow adds except some running ability. He doesn’t subtract much but he doesn’t add either and he was available at a discount.

The Pats have needs. One of their biggest need is receivers — in fact, if you read anything about the Pats they are one of the most receiver needy teams in the league. The departure of Moss left them without a deep threat; Chad Johnson (Ocho) never understood the offense and couldn’t fit in; Welker is gone; and Gronk is “iffy.” Yes, there are other receivers, but in a pass happy league, especially with a pass happy team, and a pass happy QB, you need receivers.

Not sure where Tebow fits in. I suppose he could be an HB, but probably a stretch.

  19. Going to make an update to tweak timing of rain and be a little more specific for Tuesday, a few minor midweek adjustments, and add a sideswipe of a coastal storm Thursday night into Friday, as well as drop Saturday’s temps a bit.

Any heat is delayed for a while. We’re in a cool pattern for a while. Watch how fast it turns around before June’s done though.

    1. I hear ya OS. Just checked the base, net and all is dry. We shall see when. Wake up for my 3am check what I find! Only had flooding in March of 2010, but now I always worry about it!
