July, we bid you farewell. A month hotter than average and a little wetter than average in most of the region. As August arrives, we’ll watch a cold front sweep across the region Thursday night and Friday morning, bringing some showers and thunderstorms to the region. This will set up a decent first weekend of the month, though we cannot rule out a shower or storm sometime on Sunday. Looking into next week, though we’ll be in a mean trough position, the weather will be largely dry with the air seasonable to cooler than normal.

A stormy but non severe Thursday night
The more I see Patriots rookie Aron Dobson the more I like him, he’s having a decent camp thus far and is showing where he can fit in, will see
Chad Jackson…
Really Charlie?

A massive dust plume is headed across the Atlantic, squashing tropical development. http://wxch.nl/19xHaXM

Impressive, but not unprecedented. This happens every so often. That dust may contribute to colorful sunsets in the tropics even into the Caribbean area in the weeks ahead.
The next 8 weeks beginning tomorrow is New England’s Hurricane season.
See above. Nothing is going to happen in the near future, that’s for sure. 😀
I saw it, interesting to say the least, once we get into Oct the waters from the Carolina’s northward will be to cool to sustain a formidable hurricane hence why more times than not we end up with just rain and little wind
Thanks TK!! 😀
HM touting flooding risk over the next 30-45 days. Hmmmmmm
So I guess we should prepare for a drought. 🙂
LOL, exactly.
Happy August 1st everyone. Hopefully we don’t see any big time heat this month. Wishful thinking on my part.
Threat level index with showers and storms
Flooding: Elevated
Wind: Low
Indeed happy August to one and all. Does anyone know what time the showers will be in Hingham tonight? Thanks much!
Any time after 4PM.
Tx. I was wondering the same. Good question. If it had been after 10:00 it would have been a better answer 😆
Here we sit, August already. Where did the Summer go. Sure there can be warm, even hot days, but let’s face it, Summer is on the way out and it only just began. 😀
BUT, from about a week from now until mid-October has some of the best weather
New England has to offer.
I agree. Looking forward to this weather. Seems our 2 “extreme” seasons (winter and summer) are usually potent but short
Seems that way, doesn’t it? 😀
Agreed on the heat…………… usually along the immediate coastline, it can be the most humid month.
A couple thoughts on the tropics so far …..
I dont like that the +2 to +3C ocean temp anomaly still occupies a great deal of ocean real estate nearby us.
The pattern remains quite amplified, as opposed to just having a lazy, west to east flowing jet stream across southern Canada and that concerns me because I keep envisioning a cutoff low parked in the mississippi valley region, with a flow very parallel to the east coast.
Finally, the pattern changed around July 21st and has been fairly stable now for 2 weeks. I’m sure the atmosphere doesnt keep track of time, but if the pattern stayed stable for a total of 6 weeks, then, that would mean a new pattern emerging around the end of August. Hopefully not one that would be more favorable to tropical development, at the time of peak season.
We’ll see what happens.
Could the potency of the dust storm OS posted portend stronger waves off the coast to follow
Maybe so.
My Guess would be NO Waves or much weaker waves. 😀
At least until that dust clears up.
Btw, it’s not just the dust, it’s the dry air to go with it. 😀
How long does it take for dust to dry ? Will we feel dust here?
Haven’t a clue. 😀
Have a look at this image on the Arctic ice area lost in the last week of July.

Notice how low this year has been. Sign of an early start to winter? Will have to monitor.
Looks like showers are moving in quite rapidly. 😀

78 with 58 DP. Sustained SE wind avg is 22 on one corner of deck. I feel as if I’m sitting in a wind tunnel. It’s sustained about 15 on ocean side. Lots of big clouds. Great sky and another winner day
Sue. Mac is going to driving range in pembroke and bringing clam chowder from oloverias home for dinner 🙂
That is fantastic Vicki. I can’t wait to hear what you think! Tell Mac to tell Joyce (bartender and owner) that Sue sent you. 🙂
I called mac and he will say hi. Thanks
I have updated the blog!
