7:56PM
Before we get to the weather, for those who see this post in the 8PM hour Tuesday, the International Space Station will be visible as it passes nearly overhead from the SW sky to the ENE sky starting at 9:04PM. The HTV4 satellite will also appear in the NW sky slightly below the half way up point in the sky moving to the NE starting at 9:44PM. Should be clear enough to see both, though the ISS will be the highest up and most brilliant of the 2 passes.
Weatherwise, one more nice day Wednesday as high pressure hangs on but warm air starts to come in aloft, producing some high clouds. Then a slow-moving cold front takes from Thursday through Friday night to pass through the region, with episodes of showers and thunderstorms and a return to muggy air. This front gets offshore (hopefully) on Saturday, which should show improvement. A drier air mass comes in Sunday and lasts into early next week. There continues to be no hot weather in sight.
Updated forecast for southeastern New England (southern NH, eastern MA, RI)…
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows from 50 inland valleys to 60 urban centers. Wind light variable.
WEDNESDAY: Sunshine becoming filtered at times by variable high cloudiness, then some increase in clouds late afternoon and evening. Highs around 80 but 70s coast. Wind SE to S 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers possible toward dawn. Lows in the 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs 78-83. Wind S 10-20 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Numerous showers and thunderstorms. Low 66. High 80.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated showers and thunderstorms. Low 61. High 85.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 59. High 81.
MONDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 54. High 78.
TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Low 58. High 79.
Thanks TK. Now if I may, I’m going to re-post 2 from previous blog:

From the NWS:
FRIDAY…ANOTHER STRONGER COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND…PUSHING THE FIRST FRONT OFFSHORE AND BRINGING ANOTHER ROUND OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO THE REGION. LIKE THURSDAY… MOSTLY CLOUDY TO OVERCAST SKIES WILL PRECLUDE A LOT OF THE SURFACE INSTABILITY. HOWEVER…THERE IS STILL ELEVATED INSTABILITY AND UNLIKE THURSDAY…THERE IS QUITE A BIT OF SHEAR BOTH IN THE 0-1KM LAYER AND IN THE 0-6KM LAYER. IF WE GET A BIT OF SUNSHINE…THERE WILL LIKELY BE POTENTIAL FOR A FEW STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS. OVERALL THOUGH THE LARGEST THREAT WILL CONTINUE TO BE FOR HEAVY RAIN AND URBAN AND POOR DRAINAGE FLOODING AS PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES INCREASE TO OVER TWO INCHES.

Well it looks like for this Summer anyway, our Ocean temperatures have already peaked
and are on the way back down.
http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/nem.html
Sometimes the ocean water temps fluctuate from late July through early or even mid September near their peak values, so we’ll probably see these go up and down a few times before they start their steady downward trend.
Ocean currents play more of a role in the larger-scale temperature pattern than do local to regional weather conditions.
In a normal year, sure.
This year, not so sure. We shall see. 😀

Thanks tk
TK. Think I saw the Space Station. What should it appear like? Looked like a bright star moving across the sky.
You saw it. Very bright this time.
The Japanese satellite will also be visible at about 9:44 to 9:47PM traveling northeastward across the NW sky about 37 degrees above the horizon. Will be less bright than the ISS was but should be clearly seen in unobstructed viewing areas.
Thanks TK. Had my wife and daughter and her friend outside with me too.
Yep that’s it. My SIL has us out looking at it on a regular basis but it never gets old
Could be an interesting day on Friday if enough sunshine comes out Friday from reading the technical discussion from the NWS in Taunton. Clouds are a very good thing on Friday. I am hoping the weather imprvoes for the rest of my vacation down here in Virginia. It struggled to get to 70 here today.
Have fun JJ. What did you see today?
Hi Vicki…. I went to a winery in New Kent and toured Yorktown today. Tomorrow I will be golfing.
Hi JimmyJames in Virginia!!
Mac is jealous of golf. The winery tour sounds wonderful. We toured Yorktown years ago and enjoyed it tremendously.
can someone put out the yearly predictions for me i believe it was vicki who posted it, just want to see how close i am so far 😉 i think i nailed july
If I don’t remember in the morning please remind me. I’m still playing catchup from vacation
So AccuWeather’s forecasts now go out 45 days…
The following is a commentary on this:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
HAHAHAHAHA!!
*falls over due to lack of oxygen*
Hahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Fell over here due to hysterical laughter. 45 day? Seriously ????
Believe it…
Sooooo sad
Really. How can they do that with any accuracy???
Just took a look. Ges out to my birthday as of today. It is going to be sunny and 68. Lets see how that pans out.
Well since they figured it out already, I guess all the meteorologists can now go on vacation for the next month or so. 😉
And now I guess I’ll have my outfits all planned out for school for the next several weeks to come…
Hey maybe AccuWeather will start predicting what the actual days will be like for everyone. For instance…
For anyone named Emily, Cindy, George, and Bob you will be happy on September 5th.
For anyone named Bill, Nora, and Henry…well, The 5th just isn’t your day.
😀
Just took the dog out and saw a white skunk with a black stripe staring at us….luckily it took off.
Ick! That’s scary! Glad it ran away…
Me too!
I agree with Emily – ick!!!!
To TK:
The 45 days is mere child’s play. If you would like a forecast for your neighborhood that goes out 18 months, you can go here.
http://www.dryday.com/
🙂
And the nerve of them…they want to charge for this BS service!!!!!!!!!!!
https://www.dryday.com/orderform.aspx?l=united-states/massachusetts/suffolk-county/boston&m=000100000000000000
Any of us could pull historical data and give a forecast, what a joke.
honestly what accuweather is doing look at the temps, its the average for each day
vicki you have the predictions yet?
Hi Matt – thanks for the reminder. It’s been a busy week catching up from vacation and amazingly the roof that was damaged in the Feb 9 blizzard (almost 6 months ago) is finally being repaired. My advice to anyone who has Liberty Mutual would be get rid of it asap.
You can see the predictions on a sort of off blog I have – they are the second topic down – also do you have any idea what type of cloud that is in the top picture? Mac took it when we were on vacation. Thanks
http://franconiaridge.blogspot.com/
With each passing day, the likelihood of Boston reaching 90 degrees for the rest of 2013 seems less and less likely. I’m sticking with that prediction.
OS – I finally put up that picture of the cloud I tried to describe. It’s on an old blog I have at http://franconiaridge.blogspot.com/
It it a cloud type or just a regular cloud? Thank you!!
Just had to verify.
up, I was correct. It is a ROLL CLOUD.
Here is an image of an official roll cloud. Sure looks like your cloud.
https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRfYJKZ1RofzJXLSntEGSIds7bnApTrjUih1nPkq5s3FG2hljOe
Wow – very cool. Thanks, OS. I’m off to read about them. I loved the picture and was sorry I wasn’t there to see it.
Interesting reading, OS. It says they are relatively rare. Makes it even more exciting!!
I love Phillips prediciton!!!
Might have to change three and three to two and four. 😀
Everyone probably already knows this but there is a NASA app for the iphone and probably other phones, etc. It will show sighting opportunities (e.g., ISS, HTV4, etc) using your current location.
This morning Barry forecasted no more 90’s for the rest of the month. 😀
TK – Do you agree I hope?
Nope, sorry. 🙂
Hehe. Me either and I am absolutely positive that helps TK to breathe easier 😆
We snuck in a few more days of camping ….. Ah, the nighttimes were so wonderful, we actually were creeping towards the fire to warm up a bit, and yet the days were beautifully mild and summerish. It fealt like Labor Day weekend camping, which I always love that time of year.
This is perfect weather IMHO. You have had a wonderful summer Tom
My SIL said school started in Atlanta today.
Today, wow !!
We start in 2 1/2 weeks, getting 3 days in prior to Labor Day weekend, which I like. Takes some of the sting off of snow days.
It has been a great summer ! My wife was saying earlier today, this has been the best summer and I agree with her. 🙂
We have enjoyed your summer trips for a few years and I can see why this is the best yet. Very nice
who wants to bet that some where between the 20-25 there will be a 90 degree day or 2. ps band camp there is always at least one day with 90 degree or higher durring band camp why change it now lol
vicki you had not posted the year long predictions yet
I posted a link to them Matt. Earlier today
She posted them on a link above.
Thanks north :). Please tell mrs north spray killed poison ivy and Now that we are back from vacation mac will pull it all up. Please thank Sara 🙂
oh ok did not see it, sorry. cool roll cloud you have
I will tell her. Tell him to be careful!
Does anyone know what the insects are that make all the racket at night this time of year? My mom always said they were June bugs calling for water. They are as noisy as I’ve ever heard tonight
no its a mix of frogs and crickets. with a beatle of some kind. i forget which beatle sounds at this time of year.
Thanks Matt – they are noisy but it’s fun to listen to. We have a pair of tree frogs tossed into the mix to. A real summer night concert!!
I don’t know anything about the bugs but I would love to know what spray you used to get rid of the poison ivy.
Hi Diane. We used round up for poison ivy and it took two dousings and it will kill any other plants in the area so some is still there. North’s wife explained to me a while back that the only way to get rid of it is to pull it up. I figured we’d kill the leaves first and then leave it until we returned from vacation and pull it. I am horribly sensitive to it so it will be my husband’s job and we are not sure how sensitive he is. He’ll wear clothes that are old and would otherwise be thrown out – and rubber gloves.
We did learn if you do nothing it multiplies very quickly. Good luck and if I left anything out perhaps North’s wife will add to or correct anything I said.
Sun’s magnetic field about to flip, causing “ripple effect”
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-205_162-57597396/suns-magnetic-field-about-to-flip-causing-ripple-effect/
I saw that shotime and thanks for posting. I keep hearing that it might affect weather but to date have not heard how. Does anyone here know???
In from going the dog out. Smell the skunk tonight but didn’t see it!
Taking the dog out!
Can you tell where it is living. There is not much worse than having a dog sprayed by a skunk except having the dog and the dog walker sprayed. Good luck. We have not smelled any recently for which we are very thankful.
Showers and a few heavy downpours have been moving through here since about 5:00. There are now a few small breaks in the clouds.
