7:48PM
A cold front will march east southeast across southern New England during this evening into the overnight hours, pushing offshore by early Wednesday morning. There is one final band of showers and thunderstorms ahead of this front as of the time of the writing of this entry (about 7PM), but it is expected to move east southeast and eventually weaken and dissipate and never make it into southeastern New England save for a few possible showers (may not even see that). Storms or not, the cold front is going to clean house and bring another shot of cool/dry air to the region for the middle of the week. This appears, however, to be the last shot of such air for a while, and even though the comfortable air will be around for a few days, as we get toward the end of the coming weekend and into next week, it appears we will be heading into a more typical August pattern of warmer and more humid weather.
Updated forecast for southeastern New England (southern NH, eastern MA, RI)…
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Slight risk of a shower mainly well west of Boston through 1AM. Still humid early, drying out overnight. Lows drop to 55-60 inland but 60-65 at the coast. Wind W increasing to 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mixed sun & passing clouds. Dry air! Highs in the 70s. Wind W 10-20 MPH along with some higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clouds vanish, sky turns clear. Crisp & cool. Lows drop to around or just below 50 inland valleys, 50s elsewhere. Wind W to NW 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY: Sunny. Highs 75-80. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY-SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 55-65. Highs 75-85.
MONDAY & TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 60-70. Highs 80-90.
It appears we have a rather quiet stretch weather wise
Very quiet, starting out cool/dry, ending warm/more humid. Hot spell not that far off.
It’s ok, it’s mid to late Aug, in my book it’s the end of the tunnel, I think that mid summer heat 90+ degrees like we had in July for 12 days straight is done, I’m sure we will get another 90 degree day or 2 but nothing like back a month ago, 70’s and 80’s are perfect 🙂 thanks for the update
Thanks tk
Thanks TK! Love the title of this one! 😀
Thanks TK. Do we all get one??? May I reserve mine for just prior to thanksgiving please?
hahahahahaha
😉 I like your new image……wonder where I’ve seen that before 😆
😉 Who knows….
heheheehe!
I know 🙂 🙂 🙂
does the long range say from aug 23 – labor predict sun.. im on vacation that streetch dont disappoint me 🙂
Me too….he couldn’t possibly let both of us down!!! 🙂
TK – How will the next hot spell compare to July’s in terms of intensity and duration?
Yes, I know summer is winding down but still…UGH!
It’s likely to be considerably less than July’s. I agree with Charlie’s assessment above. It can get hot late Summer .. we’ve seen plenty of hot days in late August and September over the years. It’s just very hard to string more than a couple together.
That’s why IMHO August is typically the very best of deep summer. We have spots of cool and we have splatterings of hot but mostly it seems we are just comfortable.
Tk, Thanks for responding to the article I posted. OS, Vicki definitely pretty interesting to read about seeing how we complain alot because Boston’s measurements are taken at Logan and are so easily influenced by the ocean. Also Vicki, I believe there are some other news outlets that spread some ideas that are false as well….But this is a weather blog so will have to debate when we meet up sometime. Speaking of meeting up when is the next get together Sept?
Hehe. Yes there are. I try to find moderate and it ain’t easy. The Christian Science monitor is one I like. I was teasing btw. Just wanted to make sure you know. It was a great link
Hi Vicki,
I know your kidding. Hope your well!
I am and hope you are the same. Would be an interesting discussion when we all get together.
Don’t get me going about Fox Spews.
Oh dear you and I may drive the others away when we get together …..somehow I’m not surprised 🙂
Fox News….”unfair and unbalanced”…just my quick two cents…now back to weather.
ooopps…I think I just pulled a “Charlie”
🙂
hehehe – your comment doesn’t surprise me any more than OS’s — 😉
Actually some areas of interest in the Tropics. The wave off of Africa is destined to
go poof, while the one in the Caribbean “may” develop into something. We shall see:
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
hecking out the GFS, several non-sustainable waves coming off the coast
of Africa. Nothing happening.
Going, Going, Well soon to be gone:

CMC has the one in the Gulf develop:

CMC also hangs onto one of the African waves with another behind:

Crap I didn’t realize I put .38, I meant .08 sorry

A little too cool for this time of year, but beats the crap out of HHH with 99 Degrees!!!!
Hey when did the Tropics wake up?
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
Some models show continued activity, ie CMC and Navgem, however, the Euro
and GFS show African waves continually going poof.
Sure looks like something gets going towards the Gulf. CMC has a Powerful system
develop.

Brownsville, TX best stay on guard just in case.
Just checking in periodically with my friends at Woodshill. Your posts put a bounce in my step.
Just about now (maybe yesterday or a few days ago, I’m not sure) the sun will begin to set on a daily basis over the polar region. The daily loss of daylight up there is fairly significant. It’s not like the Boston area where it’s hard to tell from week to week as the increments are really small. The changes up north do not immediately translate into winter-like conditions. However, significant nighttime cooling (widening differentials between day and nighttime temperatures) will be evident and this will move southward from the polar region to New England. We’ll be seeing it a few weeks, too. On my drive up to Quebec City next week through Jackman, Maine, I’ll see some evidence of this as there are always hints of autumn foliage by late August up there.
some of the weather models show the tropics heating up with activity towards the end of thier runs. expecially the western gulf
Morning all, cool and refreshing! 🙂
Hey total shot in the dark, but I’m hearing rumblings of another get together (i was unable to attend the last one and would love the opportunity to meet some of u). What about doing a cookout/bbq at a park where u can use one of those huge grills and the picnic tables area. Larz Anderson park comes to mind in Brookline as an option. Not sure if it costs money to do that but thought that might be fun some saturday afternoon before the weather gets too chilly. Everyone can bring a dish, maybe hotdogs, burgers, etc. in place of spending money on food and drinks at a restaurant/bar. What do u all think?
Great idea! Castle Island is a great place also but we would have to bring our own grills.
I would definately attend a cook-out! I think that’s a great idea 🙂 Larz Anderson Park sounds good.
like the idea also — I don’t drive into the city as I once would have – but I love Larz Anderson. I can get Mac to drop me off, work for a bit and collect me 🙂
Larz-Andersen is a great idea. Nice space. Good views of the city.
Oh dear heavens, my SIL said Brady was hurt at practice. Arghhhhhhhhhh
Knock knock. Anyone home ?
Who’s there? 😛
Lonely Vicki
Lol
awwwwwwww HI Vicki!!
Hi….it was awfully quiet here today.
I’m sorry! You should have rang the door bell instead of knocking 😉 Maybe it would have been more effective, hahha 😛
If you ever get lonely, you can come over to my blog and chat with me 😉
I can’t remember your blog address. Would you mind posting it again?
It was CHILLY today with that breeze!!
I think the Cape Verde low is going to be fighting the odds most of the way. But who knows … the last Cape Verde storm made it a lot further than I thought it would. The Caribbean low could be a threat.
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
Everyone in the gulf states needs to pay close attention to that one in the carribbean
Get ready for the feel of Summer coming back next week and hanging around for a while. Beyond early September there are a few hints at a sharp turn to below normal temperatures again.
Yay!! I can wear the new summer dresses I got recently!
Gayle (if you’re watching)… My early feeling is that you may be happy with the pattern heading through the end of August and early September.
Blog = updated!
