  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

A little chilly this morning. 46 at my house.
But really nothing unusual for mid September.

Boring times ahead. Unless there is some sort of tropical system, it is just
waiting for the ocean to cool off and the first snow flakes. Even thunderstorm
season has passed. Summer is gone.

How about a contest to pick the date of the first snowfall at Logan, 1 inch or greater?

I have a sneaky feeling that it “may” come fairly early this season. 😀

  2. Thanks TK.
I got to do some thinking when the first inch will happen. A few years ago I correctly predicted the right date when the first inch would fall outside of WTNH building our ABC affliate in CT. I did not win anything but my name was mentioned in the late meteorologist Dr. Mel’s blog.
    Weather is BORING this week!

  3. Saw kids at the bus stops this morning in shorts and winter coats. Odd to see but personifies late Sept in new england! 🙂

    1. i wear a sweatshirt and shorts this time of year because by afternoon its perfect outside. But wow one day and i already see some color in the marshland

        1. My mom always gave me the 60 degree rule. If it wasnt at least 60 degrees at the bus stop i couldnt wear shorts.

        2. And girls didn’t wear pants. Except – as I’ve said – my mom made me wear pants under my dress just to walk to school. Humiliating to say the very least.

  4. It is very impressive for Logan to reach a record low temperature during the winter months let alone mid-September.

TK – Would you say this is a very chilly air mass by September standards?

After that 97 degrees last week I am certainly not complaing…good riddance to the 90s and hopefully the 80s as well. 🙂

    1. Not really that unusual for September. We’re entering a period of time where record low temps are going to be easier to attain than they were for a long while.

Time of year doesn’t really have any impact on how easily record lows (or highs) can be set. It’s all related to the climate normals.

    1. If we had this same airmass over us back in July, it would have been absolutely refreshing to say the least. 😀

  5. I dont know if its a coastal illusion or what …… (the last of the low clouds cleared only a few hours ago)

Does anyone notice a milky haze in the sky, particularly the southern half of the sky, that is somewhat dimming the sun and also making the sky appear a bit whitish ?

Almost looks as if we are downstream of forest fires or a major volcanic event.

    1. Just saw your comment Tom and yes, i do notice the milky almost ashy look to the sky toward the south and southwest. To the north and east its clear and blue.

  6. Anyone know what the bad allergies are right now? I felt terrible last week and then went to PR and felt great within 24 hours, now I am back home and feeling like crap within 24 hours of being home..ughhhh!!!

  7. Pete on air said that the last time Boston had a record low temperature was in March 2007 at 5 degrees. I find it interesting that we only have record lows every few years but record highs are achieved at least a few times every year.

      1. Harvey hinted at just that. In fact, he said that around the world there are twice as many record highs as lows nowadays.

  8. Looking out long range it doesn’t really want to cool down like you would normally see going into Oct, I see above normal temps in the long term

      1. Lol I wonder if in say 150 yrs if leaves will be on trees going into Christmas, Thanksgiving almost happened a couple yrs ago, but Vicki if the leaves were to stay on the trees going into Dec we’d have to here how it’s normal and that this has happened before in the early 1900’s blah blah blah, just saying 🙂

        1. I have to check back to last year. I’m pretty sure we had leaves until thanksgiving the past two years but have to see if it went past

    1. I am not sure it’s on tonight. unless you have some special channel. I think there are 3-4 preseason games that are not on here.

  9. Since its quiet did anybody here about the homeless guy who found a bag full of money and a passport and turned into the boston police, I think it was $42,000. My wife told me tonight that the owner did not even tip him, to got to be kidding me. This guy has nothing and could have done plenty with that money but instead did the right thing. I guess some anonymous donor in Virginia has set up a fund to reward this fine homeless man and it was already at $19,000. Good for this donor and good for the fine people who see fit that this guy who has nothing but the shirt on his back should be rewarded. Shame on the owner of the money, shame on you.

  10. To update the donar had set a goal to raise $50,000 for the homeless man and that goal has just about reached that total. Donations pouring in left and right and a job and a place to live being set up by this Virginia donar. I guess the homless guy once held a good job .

    1. It figures that no one in Massachusetts came forward, it had to be a Virginia resident, Massachusetts don’t want this riff raff around, so sad, good night John, beautiful night 🙂

    2. He has been out of work since 2005 but says God has been good to him. Man is amazing. A far deeper message lies with this story. I think its a good idea for America to try to sit back and figure it out

      1. My point is that he’s from Mass and we all stand around while Virginia sets up donations and a place to live, sad to say the least for us, Massachusetts residents were not about to take this guy in or give him a place to live, they will watch, just saying Vicki, again sad

        1. Yeah, us MA residents are so terrible. 😛

          Nothing like being generalized.

          Virginia is calling you. 🙂

        2. I got your point. You missed mine 🙂

The collection is great and I suspect he will do some paying it forward. I’d love to see him get a job.

  11. Last night, a north wind off of Massachusetts Bay held Marshfield’s low to 52F.

Calm wind tonight, its already 45F !! Looking at the 8pm obs, SE Mass is currently the coldest part of New England.

  12. Taunton got down to 34F.

Meanwhile, its 39F atop Mt. Washington ……….. Worcester and Blue Hill are in the mid-upper 40s, should be a quick temp rise once the sun gains some elevation later this morning.

Gee, its dark at 6am and again, by 7pm these days.

  13. Being at work, I cannot copy and post a link …… however ……

If anyone wants to, check out the most current northeast visible satellite picture. It shows the CT River Valley, the Hudson River Valley and all the River Valleys in Pennsylvania. They are easily identified, as the fog has yet to burn off this morning.

  14. Most models, even the euro now, developing a low pressure area along a front that takes moisture from the gulf system up the coast giving us a good nor’easter come around next wed

  15. Leaves were down early last Fall. Late the year before. At least in the “northern hemisphere” ..aka north of the Pike. 🙂

    1. Not here TK – we have had them up until Thanksgiving the last 2 – possibly 3 – years. I believe I commented when we went to the south shore right after Thanksgiving that I was amazed at the number of trees with leaves still holding on there.

      1. Depends on the types of trees too i believe. Maples lose them fairly early while some, especially oaks, never fully lose them all.

        1. It was our two big maples that didn’t want to drop them last year and drove me nuts. I expect the oak to hold the leaves longer but doesn’t bother me as they are back by the woods. Maples are on either side of the house and everyone tracks the leaves in so I want them down and gone.

      2. We are not north of pike of course and neither is south shore – just in case that wasn’t clear 🙂 🙂 I did find that our maples were hanging on just past Thanksgiving and that coastal was raking Thanksgiving weekend. I also noted a question from me on Nov 24 as to whether it was the first day that had stayed in the 30s and that we turned our heat on during the day for the first time on that date.

            1. Yes. Came home yesterday. Talked to her this morning and she sounded really good, had a good night and a good morning so far. The visiting nurse was in too.

              1. GREAT news and must give you and your brother and dad a moment to sit back and breathe a bit easier. Are they still considering surgery?

                1. I think so but not until next month. There is still fluid by her pancreas they have to make sure is gone first,

      3. Yes I remember now – the difference between Charlieville and up here was astounding last fall. We were done raking and cleaning up the yard while the trees from your area southward were still holding onto leaves.

          1. actually as I recall – charlieville was announcing the end to leaves and was certain vickiville could not possibly have any left

            1. Vicki go fund me is the donation page for that homeless man. $75,000 is the newest goal and I guess there nearing that.

              1. The man who set it up was thinking maybe it would have raised a Couple hundred. I guess the guy once had a good job as a clerk in a court but lost his job due to problems with his boss.

                1. Thanks John. I know they want to buy him a house and think the sentiment is great but he needs a job or some means to support the house. I sure hope it works for him. Any business would benefit from an employee with that kind of honesty

          2. I wish Charlie would take the last train to Charlieville 😉

The leaves were off early around hear last year but the year before was very late

    1. But he can’t afford a house if he can’t work. And as generous as it is, its setting him up for more failure. I think the individuals managing the funds will be wise and make sure that doesn’t happen. The generosity of people is amazing and he deserves it

      1. True but with no mortgage and a furnished home and with all that money I would think he would be fine. And it sounds like this guy wants to help him with all that. I heard there going to let this fund get as high as it can. What a great feel good story. This is life changing for this man. If there is no addictions involved he should be fine.

  16. Last year was closer to normal and dropped there leaves at the end of Oct and were bare by early Nov, 2 yrs ago they were late, like Thanksgiving late, I consider that later than the normal, yes I know they can drop early and drop depending on a variety of things but having leaves on trees to thanksgiving, and to top it off we had leaves on the trees that year early like really early, I think 2 yrs ago we had a total of 3 months where the trees had no leaves, that’s not normal.

    1. Probably only happened here in Massachusetts…I’m sure everything worked according to plan in Virginia, Texas, etc, etc.

    1. Agreed…there was a really great picture on their FB page the other day and it was red (upper portion of the sky), white (clouds in the middle) and blue (darkened mountains)…very cool and patriotic!

  17. Its strange seeing the EURO so confused. Heck, the GFS is being more consistent in its 6-10 day long range outlook. Its meteorological chaos !

I half expect the EURO to take something from the Gulf of Mexico to west of Albany, NY on its 0z run overnight.

    1. I had noted that and was planning on a similar comment here, but you covered it. 🙂
