Pattern Remains Dry, Turns Colder

2:04AM

A wave of low pressure will pass north of New England this weekend but its broad circulation will send some clouds and possibly a few scattered rain showers through the region, along with a gusty breeze, especially Sunday. A cold front will approach late Monday and drive in some colder air for Tuesday into the middle of next week. A storm is likely to get going off the Atlantic Coast but will stay far out at sea (though should be watched in case it should come further north than currently expected).

Forecast for southeastern New England (southern NH, eastern MA, and RI)…

WEEKEND: Variably cloudy – most sun Saturday AM & Sunday PM. Passing rain showers Saturday night & Sunday morning to early afternoon. Highs 45-50 Saturday. Lows 35-40 Saturday night. Highs 50-55 Sunday. Lows 30-35 Sunday night. Wind W 5-15 MPH through Saturday night, NW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts Sunday.

MONDAY – VETERANS DAY: Sunshine then clouds arriving from the west late in the day with a chance of passing rain/snow showers at night. Highs around 50, colder at night.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Low 30-35. High 40-45.

WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY: Variably cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 40s.

FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Highs around 50.

  1. Tk to answer your question I’m not sure where that station is out of. I just went out and checked and it is 105.1, it’s fm1 if that makes a difference and yes the Christmas music is still on.

  2. Good Saturday Morning….

That storm threat went from really something to Nothing fairly quickly. Oh well.
Also, I can’t believe the amazing and very fast warm up after an initial brief shot of cold air.

    That typhoon is unbelievable.

    1. From the Philippines, even worse than we thought:

Thousands may be dead in the wake of the most powerful storm on record this year, according to NBC News. Unconfirmed reports from the Philippine Red Cross suggest that at least 1,200 people may have died in the storm—1,000 in the coastal city of Tacloblan, and at least 200 more in the Samar province.

The numbers came from preliminary reports by Red Cross teams on the ground, Gwendolyn Pang, secretary general of the Philippine Red Cross, told NBC.

Regional military commander Lt. Gen. Roy Deveraturda said that the casualty figure “probably will increase,” after viewing aerial photographs of the widespread devastation caused by the typhoon, which was heading toward Vietnam after moving away from the Philippines.

        1. GREAT link North, thanks. I have forgotten the definition of quartile. Anyone ??

I am keeping your uncle’s wife in my thoughts and hope you hear soon!

      1. I don’t know how fast it drops but it sure seems high for this time of year. I do know January 1, 2012, it was 46 degrees off of Scituate. It sure seems as if we have been saying time and time again for quite some time that storms go poof with a few here and there actually holding together. I hope it’s not a poofy winter 🙁

        1. They ‘re not like they used to be, undefeated my freshman through junior years. After that, not so much. As long as they beat Attleboro thats all i care about, lol

          1. Nothing like it used to be, I played 2 outa the 4 yrs in Super Bowl at the old Sullivan stadium and Bentley college, though I more I’ve looked into this new miaa playoff schedule, it’s much more up to date, no one likes change, but it had to be done, anyways yeah north don’t win nothing anymore, a town as a whole was great in the 90’s and leading the way, now it’s stuck in neutral and I’m happy to announce there building more eye soar dealerships on rt1 in north Attleboro as we speak, of course more modern restaurants or some nice smaller retail stores would have been nice. Take it easy am 🙂

          2. There not beating Attleboro, not this year, Attleboro got a new field but still in those outdated stands that people have sitten in since the 60’s ugh

    1. And mac wants to add that with the heat increase we will need more power and we do not have more power. I wonder if that’s factored in

Thanks. OS. I read quickly as we are off to see new grand but will read in depth later

  4. I knew 105.1 wasn’t out of Boston so I made a guess and got it right on the 1st try. 🙂

Somehow my Woburn High School football team went to play Concord-Carlisle (#1 seed) on their own field and beat them. Now they go to Melrose to play for the championship of the division next week. Winner of that game enters the final playoff bracket to decide the super bowl teams. Not sure I like this new format but at least my old team is doing well. And the other team in our division that was supposed to go all the way (Reading) has lost and is eliminated.

    1. I don’t know one thing about high school football and the format but yay for your team. Very exciting!!

  5. I have a question that is as far from weather related as you can get. When we came home from providence tonight we noticed the new road on 495 around exit 17 Franklin looks as if it is wet or icy. But it is neither. Does anyone know what that is or the reasoning behind it? I was thinking in a snow storm anyone not familiar would immediately think the entire road had black ice

  6. I’m sorry north, it’s a nice town, I guess, I just believe the town selectman have under achieved in the last decade or so, the town has no money, it’s in a great location for residents and especially businesses, and the clash that happens is sickening, look at jolly Charlie’s on rt 1, it’s been a eye soar for 35 yrs, they have had 6 proposals, anywhere from a hockey rink, retail to just retail, but nothing gets done, it’s 2013, not 1982, and I’ve been following these tiffs, and the residents can’t agree on what is going in there, this could be tax revenues for the town. We live in a major metro area folks, Just crazy! 🙂 have a good night

    1. I agree about the selectman. They need to take charge and not just run in neutral. I love the town though and there are some great people here!

  7. TK, noticed a variance between temps you are forecasting for Weds-Thurs vs. TV mets. A few mets have the temps staying below 40 for Weds and then hitting 50 on Thurs.

    1. Mine is just a general forecast. It probably will be closer to 40 (a bit above or below) on Wed and several degrees milder (closer to 50) on Thursday.

  8. Hi All-Happy Sunday to you all. Hope everyone is happy and healthy!

Looks like another brief cold shot Tue-Wed and then temps moderating after that. I expect the period between the 15th and 20th to be warmer and fairly dry until the near end of that period. A more robust system will approach from the SW with rain. After that, I expect the coldest weather of the season to date to settle into the eastern US around the 21st. I expect this later period to be indicative of a cold but dry pattern I am now anticipating for at least the early part of winter. I tend to be a believer in the analog data that supports dry, cold patterns in early winter lead to overall drier and colder winter seasons throughout the period. We shall see.

    1. Thanks JMA, always good to hear your thoughts. I seem to remember both you and TK had similar thoughts/predictions for last winter, we all know how that turned out. If theres cold air around theres always a chance for snow even if the overall pattern is dry. All it takes are a couple major storms to make it an above average winter for snow

  9. Philippines typhoon leaves trail of destruction. As many as 10,000 people are believed dead in one city alone!
A very sad and dire situation!!! I just hope and pray that aid is swift and able to get to some of the more remote areas.

  10. Its possible to have some snow showers and possibly a snow squall with that artic front. Most likely locations would be the interior and particularly those up in elevation. This looks to be the only shot at precipitation for the week.

  11. Here, it is a beautiful day. We are planning a fire outside as it gets closer to evening. There is something very special about being able to sit outside this time of year!! Leaves are raked in the back and on the sides for the season. We will do the front again one more time before Christmas decorations go out.

  12. Awesome day today!! My dad won the junior football championship, as well as wear the 01 Patriots Superbowl Championship ring, a few sunny breaks and nice, temps about 55 degrees

  13. Wind calm here. Was hoping the forecasted gusts would help dry out the leaves today. Guess ill rake em wet 🙁

  14. So now is this going to be the new WBZ/AccuWeather on-air met work schedule?

    Eric Fisher = weekdays 6 & 11 pm
    Todd Gutner = weekdays 4:30 – 7:00 am
    Danielle Niles = weekends
    Barry Burbank = weekends

As long as Barry is still in the mix on a regular basis, I guess it is OK with me. 🙂
