The squeeze-play is on today between departing, intensifying low pressure to the east and a narrow area of high pressure moving in from the west. This will continue the strong and gusty northwesterly air flow across the region, and despite bright April sun, it will feel even cooler than the 50s to near 60 that it is during the day today.  Winds finally drop off tonight but that will just allow temperatures to fall into the 30s in most areas. Friday will be a more tolerable day by April standards, much less wind, still plenty of sun to start, but clouds will advance later in the day ahead of an approaching frontal system. The low pressure area parent to this front will initially start to pass north of the region Saturday but will try to redevelop just over southeastern New England, similar to the system of Wednesday. It will then slowly move away through Sunday. The result will be an unsettled weekend, wettest Saturday, windiest Sunday. In fact, on Saturday, it may be cold enough aloft that precipitation bringing cold air down could cause some mix/snow in higher elevations.

A quick look into next week shows the potential, after a break Monday, for a prolonged period of unsettled weather setting up.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the 30s. Wind NW 10-20 MPH with gusts over 30 MPH early, diminishing overnight.

FRIDAY: Mostly to partly sunny. Highs 60-65, upper 50s coastal areas. Wind light N shifting to SE.

SATURDAY: Cloudy with periods of rain in the morning (higher elevation mix/snow?). Variably cloudy with a chance of rain showers in the afternoon. Low 35. High 48.

SUNDAY: Partly cloudy and windy. Low 42. High 60.

MONDAY: Partly sunny. Low 45. High 63.

  1. Thank you TK. Looking as if the party will be indoors tomorrow. If we were home, I suspect it would have been a given. At the beach it is fun to be out for a bit. Sure cannot complain about the weather this month with less than a handful of days we haven’t been outside for long periods.

    1. Hey, I am no meteorologist – more of an observer – but I am guessing that once this cool and windy and damp and un-springlike weather ends it will go right into Haze, Heat and Humidity mode! I could be wrong, but I think I’ve seen it happen.

  6. Dug out the hat and gloves for what should be a brisk morning walk! Just hope the hat stays on with some of those winds gusts well over 30mph! At least the sun is out adding some warmth to this rather chilly spring day ☼

    Although, Euro says no snow, 850MB temperatures are down to as low as
    -4C with enough precip around to make it miserable! I don’t like it at all!!

      1. A couple of inches of SNOW is what 50-60 miles North of us?
        Wouldn’t take much of a shift to get that Snow to the Boston area or just North and West. 😈 👿

  13. Truck temp says 59 degrees, other than the wind it’s really a nice day today, has anyone noticed how much the landscape has changed since the beginning of April? Love it!! Good day

    1. It’s changing very rapidly up here now. Grass is greening up really quickly. Trees budding fast. Blossoms are coming out fast and furious. It’s all blowing around in the wind today, along with a few passing trash barrels and recycle bins. I may have even seen a lady on a bicycle in mid air… 😛

      If you are out of the wind and in the sun, you can feel the strong sun very nicely. Shade & wind makes it quite chilly.

  14. When I was driving home today my car shifted quite a few times on the highway because of the wind–Very scary. THAT is one aspect I really am not a fan of. But! Other than that…at least it was sunny! 🙂

    1. I was experiencing the same thing in my fairly low-profile vehicle while cruising down 95S from Reading to Burlington around 2:15PM.

  18. Some signs of a potential accumulating snow event for at least higher elevations interior MA and southern NH Saturday evening / night, maybe all the way to Boston. It will easily be cold enough aloft. We may add enough intensity in precipitation to drag the cold air right to the surface and flip it not just to a mix, but completely to snow in these areas.

        1. Just at this point the possibility that there would be enough snow falling and sticking to the ground somewhere (most likely the areas I mentioned) that would be measurable by definition, that is, 0.1 inch or greater.

    1. Yup. Went for a walk with my son at 7:40, got back at 8, and still somewhat light.

  22. JR saying Saturday is not a washout. I see it as maybe not rain all day but pretty dam miserable overall.

  23. Spectacular morning. Waves are huge. Tide is as high as we have seen since first weekend but still not close to the height it was then

  25. All plants and flowers have been planted, 62 plants and flowers, I planted 2 maple trees last yr and they have blossomed already. This house is ready for spring 🙂

  26. Oil truck just pulled up to my house first time in six years we received three deliveries, always two as the house heats easily. Off it goes.
