A For the trivia answer.
As I said on the previous blog would not be surprised if some interior areas at some point this weekend see a non severe thunderstorm. There is just enough instability around. Main threats with these non severe storms a quick gust of wind and some small hail. Certainly don’t see any tornado or flood threat.
Thanks tk Good morning!! Baseball, then Patriot Place for lunch, then relaxing before we have dinner, maybe a good movie tonight with the kids. Temp is 48.4, looking like upper 60β²s for highs today. Having the traditional draft party next sat, should have quite a few people including some ex patriots, ex nfl players here for it good day all
Willie McGinest will be announcing the Patriots 2nd round draft pick π
Nah, they’ll trade it for a third and 2 fourth rounders π
If there smart this yr, they will π
Thanks TK. A for trivia. 56 here already! Looks like the first lawn mowing will occur today :(.
Thank you TK
61.5 here at this hour. NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
However, winds are LIGHT! I’m getting ready for the EVIL EAST WIND!!!
Hope winds pick up from the WEST instead. Don’t think so.
59.3 here
9 AM at Logan winds from 230 at 8 mph.
9 AM at Plymouth winds from 260 at 4 mph
Unless that winds picks up, winds along the coast are destined to FLIP into
the EAST!!!!!
Beverly, 270 at 7 mph
I’m sorry os if that happens, should be close to 70 degrees here this afternoon π
57 in pembroke . This Saturday is a lot Better than last . Last night was a great night to be out. Heading to a communion party and hopefully watching a good bruins win today. Looking like tomorrow is now not going to be that bad. Enjoy the day everybody.
You to john
Tk I was wondering if we had any snow events for next weekend? I got another big cookout, and just want to make sure we are not gonna need the shovels? Lol joking good day all
Wonder how many asked the same question 37 years ago next weekend π
Lol your making my point π
Actually I’m not making your point but judging by your next comment I suspect you figured it out. http://forums.accuweather.com/index.php?showtopic=29630
There has never been accumulating snow here in na in May, not sure about north and west, but never here π
Thats not entirely true. The storm vicki is referring to caused a lot of damage even in the attleboros. My mom was working at sturdy hospital at the time and tells me about driving home with tree branches falling all around her. It wasnt a lot of snow, but with the trees in full foliage it was bad

http://www.easternuswx.com/bb/index.php?%2Ftopic%2F133901-may-9-10-1977-snow-event-map-nypanew-england%2F
That map is NOT accurate. There was MORE snowfall SW of Boston than indicated on this map. Places like Millis, Medway, Holliston and Franklin all had a foot or more,
NOT NOT NOT the 8 inches or so on this map!!!!!!
Newton had 6 inches plus, NOT the 3 inches indicated on this map.
There is a MORE accurate
MAP out there somewhere.
Perhaps NWS has it????
Completely false. You’ll even say stuff without knowing the facts just to make a point.
Politics is for you my friend! π
allergies are starting up just in time for last week of classes and finals week and i have no more allergy medicne π and inorder to get more i have to go into boston but i have no time for that π struggle time
Repost of Todayβs AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.
Rain has fallen at some point on 46% of Kentucky Derby days. How many times has the Derby been postponed due to rain?
A. None
B. Once
C. Twice
D. Three
Answer later today.
A. None
A for me also
I am going against everyone else and say D. If I am wrong, then so be it. I have a feeling though that it has been postponed at least once.
Charlie quick question. How is it that you associate with former pats and NFL players. I’m just curious. Enjoy the day.
B
I take my guess out . After I put it in I was curious. So my answer may be right or wrong I’m not telling.
I’m trying to get in some gardening later today, after the Bruins game and also tomorrow. Any idea when the rain might start in the Boston area later today and what are our chances for a rainy Sunday morning? Thanks π
I have the same question. I am watching the B’s and then I want to take a walk.
Gorgeous day in the south end.
Hoping those isolated showers tomorrow stay south of Harvard square for the most part! Although I doubt the chance of rain will keep people way from Mayfair!
Not too much out there at the moment….

I’m talking tomorrow, OS. π
Oh sorry. That’s a horse of a different color.
Could be really IFFY for you.
Nah. I’m staying positive! Even if there is a passing DOWNPOUR, bets are it will be brief enough not to ruin the day! π
STAYING POSITIVE.
I’ll think positive for you also. Sounds as if it will be an very fun day for you.
Ha. Good pun
57 in Boston and 66 here, was surprised by that. Cloudy here now.
Remember john the temps r the same everywhere as Boston π it was almost 70 here today π

As a comparison, here in JP some 5 or 6 miles from the fucuckta thermometer
at Logan it is 69.8 !!!!!!!
Take those Logan observations and flush them down the TOILET!!!!!!!
We felt the cooler air here too.
Thanks Vicki for the snow map for May 9-10, 1977. I had no idea that Providence had 6 inches plus and that the rain/snow line was far (due) south of Boston. It is a wonder that Boston didn’t get a bit more than the half inch. What is also interesting is the snow gap in the CT River Valley. No surprise of course that SE MA/Cape totally escaped any snow. π
You are welcome. As is the case with Ace’s mom, I remember the tremendous tree damage.
That is probably why my grandfather would always tell me when I was a kid and was mad that it didn’t snow in March, he would always say don’t worry it can snow until May, we all would think he was nuts. π π but I guess he saw it, hasn’t happened since π
2 inches here in JP.
6 inches + as close as parts of Newton.
65.1 here. Our house smells like mint :). Mint juleps, mint Jell-O shots, mint in the derby salad, mint for the sweet tea.
Beautiful day today here at Patriot Place, place is packed as usual, I’d guess the temp is in the mid 60’s.
John how am I associated with ex patriots or ex nfl players? I just happen to be close friends to some, going back to high school days, usually Chris Sullivan from north attleboro ex patriot, Anthony Sherman currently plays fir the chiefs also from north attleboro, and Tom Nalen ex bronco from the 90’s 7 time pro bowler will be here. Little Andruzzi should show up but not sure.
Ok . So there is the connection right . Confusing post from you. Good day.
WOW!!
What a hockey Game!!!!!! Bruins down 3-1 with less than 10 minutes in 3rd period
and Bruins WIN 5-3!!! Incredible!!! I am truly IMPRESSED!!!!!
Way to go BRUINS!!!!!!!!
That’s the real Bruins team. They did not play well enough to finish it off in game 1. They played OK in the 1st today, poorly in the 2nd and early 3rd, and then they WOKE UP. You will see this team for the rest of the series. Bruins in 5.
Maybe tk but I’m thinking seven. This is going to be a dog fight trust me.

The Bruins can always find a way to give me a near heart attack!!
The young guns, Krug and Hamilton, looking good.
They played their hearts out! I’m happy for them and for Boston.
One of the better hockey games I have ever seen!!
Hope Thornton is OK. Looks to me that he cracked a couple of ribs, but he
did come back on the ice for at least one shift.

The most accurate snow maps anywhere are sitting in my attic. They were created by the NWS and the MA State Climatologists (Bob Lautzenheiser and Dave Taylor). I worked with one of those guys for years.
And yes, North Attleboro had accumulating snow in May 1977, with damage.
May 9-10 1977 delivered 7 inches of snow to Providence RI. Attleboro area had about 4 or 5 inches from the best data I have.
Remember this well. I was working downtown on South Street and we got a slushy inch or so. Out on Roslindale/West Roxbury line where I lived at the time there was about 2-3 inches.
Hey all!
I have been participating in a weather forecasting contest put on by the University of Oklahoma. It has been going on since October. The past four weeks have been the tournament stage of the contest. Today I found out that I won the tournament. Those who participated in the tournament ranged from undergraduate freshman to professors. I faced mostly grad school students. The person I beat to win the tournament is a professor at College of DuPage. The biggest thing I will take away is that I am totally in the right field and my drive to succeed is as strong as it’s ever been. Three more years till I graduate(hopefully).
That’s so cool. Congrats!!
I know I said this earlier to you but congratulations again!
You are in the right field. There is no doubt about it. π
Congrats
Hey Scott, that is terrific!!!!!! Big and bright future for you!
Impressive scott!! Well done!
Congrats
Congratulations Scott! π
Well done, Scott. Congratulations.
Nice job
The fact the anniversary of that may snow storm is next week really shows how slow the tree foliage has been this spring. Tree foliage during that storm was near full which is why it caused so much damage. Tree foliage is still mostly bare with the exception of a few.
You bring up a good point Ace. If the same setup were to happen this week, any tree damage would be very minimal. Early spring flowers like daffodils and tulips would likely be in great jeopardy, however.
IDK. I think folliage is a problem but even more of a problem is when the sap begins to flow.. the late march 1984 storm did horrendous damage to the trees. I think folliage is still a bit earlier than in the 1980s. The pic I have of the 10 inches on April 29 1987 has my daffodils blooming just above the snow cover and they had passed by April 29 this year and bloomed march 13 last
It’s the furthest behind I’ve ever seen in my life here, a matter of fact a weather anchor on cnn mentioned that even down south a lot of there landscape is much behind, so it’s everywhere people r noticing, not just here, it was a bad winter, we can only hope, and early indications r for a mild winter, enjoy spring, it’s finally here
TK – Any chance your 1977 snow map is available online or hard copy from the NWS?
I don’t think it is available anywhere except in storage boxes of a few people, but I may be able to get an image of it on here. I’ll see what I can do.
I wish I had a cherry blossom tree in my yard because they are my FAVORITE!!! I can’t get enough of them!!!! π
Todayβs AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.
The study of lightning is referred to as
A. Paleontology
B. Mentology
C. Fulminology
D. Emetology
No cheating. Answer later today.
Pure guess….. D :lol
Guess for me as well D.
I will guess D as well.
D……did I miss yesterday’s answer? thank you longshot π
Mt. Washington: 28 degrees with wind chill at 0-10 degrees; winds at 30-45 mph, but expected to increase to 45-60. Snow showers likely, but there is also a chance of a thunderstorm. Usually the Mt. Washington train opens sometime around now.
It seems this past winter has set everything behind about 1-2 weeks
I have been saying that for over a month but at first you didn’t agree. You were saying everything was right on track. π
By the way, how’s the swimming? π
Have a good day!
Very good thank u for asking, pool temp is 55 degrees, you laugh tk and that’s fine but kids r swimming today and I’m on the deck with a piΓ±a colada, the draft party this weekend I will have shifts bc only around 8-10 people can swim at a time, of course while your ice skating on woodshill pond and shoveling snow, joking good day lol π
Hey, at 160 feet above sea level, we hang onto winter a long time up here. π
Just sayin….
http://www.useakayak.org/references/hypothermia_table.html
I saw a report that the cog railway was running yesterday.
Saw that also and it is 11 years since the Old Man crumbled. I’m in the camp of letting his memory live rather than a false rebuild but then others would miss the memories many of us have so I could be easily swayed
Just a trace of rain last night, not much precip at all overnight here π
Draft week this week
Round 1 on Thursday
Round 2-4 on Friday
Rest on Sat
Go Patriots!!
Already 60.1 degrees out!!
63.0 here. Really nice out there at the moment.
BUT, I see “some” convection.
http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?ID=BOX
Very nice, but lots of clouds to dominate, but only spotty showers and a low risk of anything moderate or more. The wind is going to be an issue for a lot of people today, especially those that want to work outside. I am going to mow the lawn for the first time, either way. I don’t care how windy it is. π
64.4 degrees nice day π
Tk I just saw a table umbrella go airborne 15ft in the air and fly across Washington st another 25-30ft
It has gotten pretty gusty out there. Lawn plans are a go starting about 2PM. Have to grocery shop first! Probably see a few carriages sailing across the lot.
I got out at the grocery store and the wind took the car door. I am always very careful about hitting another car and was glad no one was beside me. It caught me totally off guard

Hey Longshot, what is the answer to yesterday’s quiz? β
I thought I missed it. I think it is called the race that always runs or something like that and will be more than surprised if it has ever postponed.
Philip, please see below.
D.
56.7 here with spotty showers and solid cloud cover. There is a special statement that winds could gust to 45.
Wind is brutal today
Answer to Yesterday’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.
Rain has fallen at some point on 46% of Kentucky Derby days. How many times has the Derby been postponed due to rain?
A. None
B. Once
C. Twice
D. Three
Answer is A, None.
Hey Charlie…the other day you mentioned you were going to check your numbers and let us know where they came from regarding the past couple of years. You stated that most of those months were cooler than normal. I had posted info from the NWS that said otherwise. Just wanted to see what your source was? Thank you.
Sorry, he has lost dexterity due to exposure to 55 degree water for 10 to 15 minutes. Please try again later. π
π π π π
Lol
So Keith, here we r again, what’s going on? Haven’t been able to back those numbers up, but I’m certainly trying to find out for this area, so what exactly are u saying? That we have been much above normal temp wise?
Basically yeah…Out of the last 24 months we’ve been above normal for 13 (according to the NWS). If you go back to the start of 2012 (28 months) it’s been 17 months. So I’m just wondering where you got your numbers from? Not a big deal but you seemed pretty confident in them. Have a good night π
Oh and one other thing. You just mentioned that you were checking for “this area” which I guess means your area in NA. That’s interesting given that you are claiming colder than normal for most months out the past two years…yet we are constantly hearing from you how much warmer it is down where you are…Care to explain? By that reasoning you should have more than 13 months out of the past 24 that are warmer than normal…
Oh my. We just had torrential rain and sleet accompanied by gusts to 39. The temp dropped a few degrees and now the sun is out. Fascinating day. I hope Harvard square is not having these events. I haven’t checked the radar
By the way, sleet, or hail, counts as snow (by National Weather Service definition), so you can put a trace in the snow column for today. π
I honestly thought there appeared to be white mixed in but was afraid to say anything. The wind that accompanied the rain was ferocious and constant. It truly was exciting to watch
π
Does that mean Texas gets measurable snow in June? Lol π
If they can measure the hail, then yes. Hail is recorded as frozen precipitation, which on official charts, is snow, sleet, or hail. It would usually be obvious to someone looking at the data if they saw a # or a T in the column in the summer that it was due to hail.
Was the operative word “usually” π
LOL
BB seems optimistic (this far out) for next weekend, with a 74F and 73F.
Down by the Cape Cod Canal yesterday, where we were camping, the SW wind off of Buzzards Bay kept it stable and it was wall to wall sunshine.
I was not smart though, not wearing sun screen and may arms and the back of my neck got burnt.
So, if anyone’s planning to be outside for a good amount of time on a sunny day, may I suggest sunscreen going forward, even if the cool spring temps dont inspire one to think of sunscreen.
Glad you are having sunshine weather. Great advice re sun. We all got a lot of color in April. It is amazing how hot the sun is.
Very hot in the sun ! During the day yesterday, the inside of the camper was above 80F. We kept the windows shut to keep the warmth in for the overnight.
Wow. Nice and great way to take advantage of the daytime heat
OKC at 96F, DFW at 94F. Summer south of 35N latitude, mostly 80s and 90s.
Lol that would be a nice day in Dallas in the middle of summer π
Answer to Todayβs AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.
The study of lightning is referred to as
A. Paleontology
B. Mentology
C. Fulminology
D. Emetology
The correct answer is C, Fulminology.
Well D is a forceful discharge, but I just looked up the definition and ewwwwwwwwww
I don’t care what the calendar says. It’s still winter
Well it better warm up because I just spent a good amount of money at Loews for summer stuff.
May 2-4 2001 we were in the midst of a tremendous early season heatwave. I remember it well because I was sick in bed with a virus. I missed two weeks of work from late April to mid-May. I didn’t really fully recover from it until early June.
5/2 = 91
5/3 = 92
5/4 = 90
Philip I remember that heat wave. It was my junior year in high school and the school had no air conditioning. Needless to say it was quite uncomfortable.
Nice night tonight, pool water is 56 degrees as I look at the thermometer, it only under the water about 8-10 inches so it may be colder at the bottom. Still an enjoyable day. Just had a local cookout with friends from neighborhood.
Heading to Narragansett beach ri in 2 weeks, I’m sure it will be super busy like it always is every year, water temps r usually in the upper 50’s maybe 60 degrees, I’ll be swimming amongst many, hitting the sack early, busy day tommorrow, goodnight π
Partly cloudy 53.3 degrees
I’ll take a look at the Narragansett Beach web cam that day. Make sure you wave. π
Lol!
the kids sticking their toes in the water doesn’t count as swimming! π
Quite a bit of difference in high temp forecasted by TK and BZ for this Friday. TK with 65 and BZ with 55. Not saying either one is right, but routing for TK.
Indeed !
TK and others,
I was wondering your thoughts on the weather this Friday and Saturday? I have finally come to the point in my back yard project where we are ready to install sod. I plan on using a roll out service plus the help of a couple of friends this Saturday. The loam is down and cannot be to wet before or during the installation. I have a couple of days to decide but it’s 10,000 sq ft of grass and I will need to plan ahead. Thanks in advance.
At this point I don’t think either of those will be completely rain-free days, unfortunately.
Updating the blog now.
