We’ll have to take the good with the bad this holiday weekend. What’s good and what’s bad, you ask? I guess, using popular opinion, the bad would be the fact that upper level low pressure will take its time exiting the region and will still have an impact on southeastern New England both Saturday and Sunday, and that yet another disturbance will be on the approach by late on Memorial Day Monday. The good is the fact that some drier air will work in from the northeast and north Saturday, clearing the region at least partially, and even more so on Sunday. More of the bad is that there will be a chance of pop up showers and a thunderstorm both days, due to lingering instability from some cold air aloft. The good of this is that these will not be long-lasting or widespread. We’ll also have to be on the lookout for the disturbance moving down from the north late Monday, as conditions become somewhat more favorable for stronger storms if things come together just right.ย As for the air temperature, it will start out on the cooler side of normal and then gradually warm with time, so that the warmest day will be the holiday itself. By that night, however, we may be dealing with a cold front charging down from the north. This will be dependent on the timing and positioning of the new disturbance.ย This also makes the forecast beyond the holiday a little more complex as there are some unknowns. Will word the extended forecast somewhat vague and general for now and adjust as is necessary.
Have a safe and happy weekend everyone, and please remember those who have served our country to make it possible for us to do many of the things we enjoy!

For the most part though, as far as you can see, do you think it will be steady rain during the 10-11:00 hour?
Tomorrow morning I mean ๐
Nope. Nothing. ๐
Mike Wankum has Sunday as the wettest day with showers and thunder for the coast and dry inland. Also Pete has all next week totally dry and sunny. It seems the only consensus among the TV mets is that Monday will be warm and temps near 80.
TK, please keep us posted this weekend for any late changes. Thanks as always! ๐
I don’t agree with either one of them, though Mike may be partially right about Sunday in that it may be a touch closer to the coast. But I still think we destabilize better over the interior even Sunday.
The thing that has me a bit worried as severe weather potential sometime in the Monday evening to Tuesday time-frame. But it’s so far away in weather-time that I just can’t really elaborate now.
Thanks TK, you enjoy the long weekend too!
The NWS in Albany has rated yesterday’s tornado out there an EF-3 with 140mph winds. Very intense for that region!
Vicki I hope everything went well today.
Thank you John. We really liked the doctor and as much as we like the drs at newton wellesley who are actually from MGH, mac wants to stay with this one. The molecular study is not in so no plan can be made
On a note of observation. We were in the new Yawkee building at Dana Farber which is lovely with huge glass windows. From the 10th floor we has a spectacular view. Looking out we saw a sea of hospitals. Children’s, Brigham, joslyn, Beth Israel, etc. In only a few blocks are housed – literally – the best hospitals in the world. It is mind boggling how incredibly lucky we are in this part of the country
Yes that building came out very nice, I watched that building being built . Keep us posted. Enjoy the weekend. I’m in shorts and freezing .
Enjoy your weekend also, John ๐
Thanks TK. Doesn’t sound bad and it would be nice to track a thunderstorm or two.
Wow. I saw your post on FB just now TK. It was a tornado. I don’t understand the nws not mentioning its possibility right after it happened.
There is a severe flash flood warning from south of Springfield to just east of Hartford. Someone may have said this on last blog. I haven’t looked there so apologize if I’m repeating
The storms seem to be just sitting there

A. Central Florida
B. Northern Brazil
C. Central Africa
D. Southern India
Answer later today.
B.
B
I will guess C.
What, I answered A. and it came out B. My final answer is A.
C. In fact it’s narrowed down to one “town” in the mountains.
I’ll say C ๐
Looks like a thin band sliding down from the north over us. Would love to have it end so we can finish the mulch today. Kind of a nice morning though sitting on the porch with coffee listening to the birds and the rain
I forgot. The Sudbury river has receded at least a foot on its banks in just this past week.
Lol ๐
A for both trivia questions.
Big time downpours of rain late yesterday afternoon and evening and there was even a severe thunderstorm southwest of me.
I am hoping to get a round of golf in today and go over to mom’s and help plant flowers today before more showers arrive this afternoon.
Hit them long and straight JimmyJames :). Enjoy the day
No idea for trivia 2 so will say A. Thanks longshot
This doesn’t look pretty!

NWS service re: tomorrow
OVERALL…THINK WILL SEE SCATTERED SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOP LATE SUNDAY MORNING/AFTERNOON WITH THE SHORTWAVE. GIVEN ABOVE
PARAMETERS…FEEL A FEW OF THE STRONGER STORMS MAY CONTAIN SMALL HAIL/GUSTY WINDS AND HAVE ADDED ENHANCED WORDING TO THE FORECAST. IN ADDITION…ALTHOUGH CAPE VALUES ARE LOWER THAN WE LIKE TO SEE FOR
SEVERE WEATHER…A BIT CONCERNED ABOUT 500 MB TEMPS BELOW -20C. SOMETIMES THOSE COLD POOLS ALOFT CAN OVER PERFORM…SO AN ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM OR TWO CAN NOT BE RULED OUT ESPECIALLY NEAR THE SEA BREEZE FRONT. FINALLY…THE THREAT WILL EXIST FOR LOCALLY HEAVY
RAINFALL/POOR DRAINAGE STREET FLOODING IF STORMS CAN TRAIN ALONG SEA BREEZE BOUNDARY.
We shall see.
This reflects what I was concerned about yesterday.
Good morning from verdict ridge in Charlotte NC, we left last night and it’s beautiful here, temp is in the upper 60’s and sunny, breakfast, golfing then a nice dinner. Good day everyone ๐
How long you hanging there?
Just till tommorrow night ๐
LOL
And here comes that clearing from the east north east
Hi arod. Nice to see you here ๐
Thank you Vicki
What a glorious evening. 66 with 48 DP. Sun shining. Light breeze.
Not so glorious here as the O()!@&#ODOAQWE!@&*#*()! ing EAST WIND
is really blowing. Down to 60 from a high of about 66.
Look at what is on the way. Not sure it will hold together, but it has so far, even on the NH Coast!
http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?ID=BOX
I sat that OS. Here is hoping. Sorry for the east wind. Come on over and enjoy here, I’m on the porch although windows are still in.
Well I didn’t sit it. I saw it
If they do hold together, I think they will swing east of here ๐
Nope. They’re moving basically
North to South. If they hold, you get it, I get it, we all get it. Let’s hope they go
poof!
Are they extra severe?
No. I wouldn’t call them severe at all. Not even sure there is thunder, perhaps a rumble or 2. Don’t see lightning on the rada.
Then I’ll hope they hold together :). Thanks!!
57 Here. Wish this pattern would change. Not fair after a cold winter.
Turned out quite nice other than some decorative clouds this afternoon.
The weakening line of showers is about to traverse eastern MA, maybe leaving a rainbow in its wake well north and northwest of Boston where it gets out of there with the sun still above the horizon. Hampton Beach’s web cam showed some nice sun shining behind the showers there, with wet ground and sparse crowds, but people there nevertheless, as it is the holiday weekend. I’ll be up there tomorrow evening for pizza, games, and fireworks, and it’ll be a mad house.
Tk when do you think we can get rid of this cool weather and could this be a trend for a cooler summer, I hope not.
This pattern is not going anywhere for the next 1 to 2 weeks at least. We do get warm shots, but they are brief.
Ironically, May is running over 2 degrees warmer than normal at Boston.
Thanks tk. I have been following the daily tempature between boston and pembroke and to my surprise pembroke is usually the warmest on most days. Second night in shorts and not that comfortable . The next two days I’ll be opening the pool and hopefully it will be in use next weekend weather depending . Spent the day today planting and power washing and we had diner on the new deck for first time .
Looking things over, yes we do get bubbles of cool air from Canada and occasional unstable upper lows, but we will sneak in some very nice days as well.
Light rain here.
My wife just got of the phone with my mother who is in Quincy and she said it was raining good there, nothing here as of now just very cool evening .
It was a nice steady rain here. Everything is soooo green.

Hello all, not a big fan of Charlotte itself, still a nice little getaway ๐
Not to change the subject. But if there is any fans of comic book movies.
Xmen dofp was awesome
I’m surrounded by them. I’ll pass it along. ๐

Going to be watching those skies this afternoon for the possiblity of some storms to fire and would not be surprised if there are a few strong storms across SNE. This does not look like a severe weather outbreak.
Thunderstorm Impact Scale.
