A frontal system will be just offshore through the weekend and it looks like it will remain east of southeastern New England, keeping this area on the cloudier, cooler side. We’ll also be dealing with areas of rain sliding up along the front, most notably today, which will be the wettest day, coverage-wise, with rain for a good portion of RI, eastern MA, and southern NH to some extent, into the afternoon before the area pushes back to the east and out of the region. Clouds may even break late in the day with a few areas possibly (no promises) seeing some sun before it sets. With temperature and dew point hanging out around each other tonight, we cannot rule out areas of fog forming. It looks like clouds will be the rule Sunday but most of the rain should stay offshore, with another patchy area possibly forming but staying to the west of the region. This should leave southeastern New England in between with just a slight risk of showers.
The front that sits just to the east during the weekend likely dissipates by Monday as a new trough from the west pushes into the region, but takes 4 days to pass by. What does this mean? It means humid, but not hot, and a daily risk of showers and thunderstorms Monday through Thursday. Details and timing will be worked out as each day moves closer.
Updated forecast for southeastern New England…
TODAY: Cloudy through early afternoon with rain ranging from steadiest and moderate at times in southeastern MA and RI to lighter and more occasional further north and west. Decreasing rain from west to east mid afternoon with all areas rain-free by day’s end, lots of clouds still remaining but some breaking clouds with even some sun possible later on. Highs in the 70s. Wind variable to mostly E up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows in the 60s. Wind light variable.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Slight chance of showers. Highs in the 70s. Wind E 5-10 MPH.
MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY: Variably cloudy. Daily risk of showers/t-storms. Overnight lows mainly 60s. Daytime highs middle 70s to middle 80s, coolest Cape Cod.
FRIDAY: Sunny. Low around 60. High around 80.
FIRST! lol
Ok sorry for the delay. Busy day yesterday at the beach including some fun weather. I may post a few pics here on the blog for those of you who don’t get to see what I post on FB.
Thanks tk.
Not much rain here as of now with just an occasional sprinkle. It is though muggy outside.
Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz. (From BB)

A. 6
B. 16
C. 26

Answer later today. (1879 may be when “official” record keeping started Boston – I don’t know. I know that temperature recordkeeping started in Central Park in 1869.)

Well all the choices are covered except B so I’ll say B
Tom a new Italian place just opened up in pembroke where the old pasta Elagaza was. I may go tonight if so I’ll let you know how it was. It’s called mother Anna’s and also is located on Hanover st north end .
Nice, enjoy !
We love Italian, so that will eventually be a place we’ll need to get to.
We’ve been to Mother Anna’s. It is not one of the best in the north end but it is good. And the chef will be different in Pembroke so I will be anxious to hear
Vicki it was great and I’m very picky with Italian food. Allen is the one who bought down here. The place was packed.
Luckily we got there early at 4:30 because by 5:15 there was a line out the door as I new this would be the case. Very reasonable prices and very good portions. The only downfall with this place is the size as it’s on the small side. I think it will do well.
I too, have eaten at Mother Anna’s in the North End – it was excellent! I’m guessing the one in Pembroke will be just as yummy. Hope you had a great time!
Thanks TK !

The heavy rain the NWS called for today is spot on
Good morning!! Occasional showers here, sometimes a brief downpour other times nothing,
Kind of tough, especially on the Cape, if this is your Sat-Sat rental week.
The Cape is bearing the brunt of the rain today and Sun-Thurs look kind of ….. well …. there’s probably been better stretches of summer weather.
I’m looking at the skaket beach web cam, and both the ocean and bay beach in Orleans are empty !!!
So if you are in the NW suburbs and don’t notice the temp, humidity, and the fact there are leaves on the trees, and that the precipitation was in the form of light rain, this might remind of you of one of those winter days where the Cape and parts of the South Shore / South Coast get a foot of snow and the rest of us get snow flurries then dim sunshine.
Thanks for the update TK. And I have absolutely no problem imagining no leaves and snow falling lightly with nice, crisp temperatures
So true !
OS – I have a video on FB that my SIL took driving home last night with all of the water on the street. I thought I could post the link here the same way I posted the photo to you but it doesn’t work. Any ideas how to get a video from there to here? Thank you
Doesn’t go the same as photos.
You may try a site like this. There are others.

Thank you OS
It must be a torrent SE of Marshfield, because looking at the radar, I’m not under the most intense echos and its still raining moderately.
Rain? What Rain? Sun was out here a little bit ago.
Just went to fish market in wellesley and had to switch to sun glasses. No sun in framingham
Sun now peaking out a bit here too !
Here’s a photo of the clouds associated with what was a severe t-storm at the time west of Portsmouth NH yesterday afternoon before the hybrid squall line reached Hampton Beach. Sun was still shining at the beach at the time. This was around 4PM.

Here is a photo taken looking at a puddle on the cement in the water slide area at Hampton Beach in the 2PM hour after a passing shower. You can see thin middle clouds reflected with the sun and if you look closely the sine waves of a drop of water that just landed in the puddle (near the sun’s reflection).
Bonus points if you can guess whose jean shorts are visible on the left side of the photo.

Emily
Correct!
She, my friend Lynda, and I were hanging out there while my son was riding the slide.
Love pics like that and I guess Emily. And My magic ball tells me Lynda was there too
Looking WNW from Hampton Beach across the marshland at 4:52PM yesterday. This is the approaching line of t-storms and you can see a decent shelf cloud advancing toward our location. At this point the heaviest cell in the line was on the left edge of the photo but was not producing all that much lightning.

These 3 photos were taken at 5:07PM. The shelf cloud was just passing and the heavy rain was approaching from the WNW.

5:07 and lights are on. Love the pictures
And the storm finally arrives (just a few min before this 5:23PM photo). Note the river of water nearly half as wide as F Street. I took this photo from the side door of the Funarama Arcade.
There was a wind gust about 30 MPH shortly before the downpour arrived with the passage of the shelf cloud.

We received .21″ of rain today. That is not going to do it.
I had a decking railing replacement job for a friend on south street in JP today that I had to cancel. I couldn’t risk get my tools wet.
Answer to Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.
Since 1879, how many days has the temperature reached 100 degrees in Boston?
A. 6
B. 16
C. 26
D. 36
The correct answer is C, 26.
Interesting question …
Thats 26 times in 135 years or ever so slightly less than once every 5 years.
Looking at the last 5 yrs (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014), Logan has hit it twice ….. 2010 and 2011. Just missed last year (2013) with a 99 and hasnt really come close this warm season yet, 92.
Really interesting. Agree Tom.
I’m I correct that temps were always not at Logan. Mac wants to know how many of those were in the last 50 years. Guess where he is going with that.
That is am I correct
I was kind of thinking of that as well …..
Are they spread out fairly evenly ……..
Have they occurred in clusters …..
Have more happened recently ? Etc …….
Tried to look it up … Came up with summarzing articles on 100F days in Boston, but I was hoping for a list to analyze. None yet.
Thank you Tom

Super typhoon Halong, cat 5.
Potential track towards Japan in several days. Probably would not be this intense at that time, but might still be quite formidable.
Some of these typhoons can be just UNREAL in intensity.
I guess so !! ….. and this would have to fall into that category.
Eric Fisher appeared on Nat’l news tonight, commenting on different severe weather conditions from the northwest all the way to Bertha.
Don’t see us hitting the 100 degree mark this summer.
Fine with me. This has been a great summer in my opinion so far since we have not had long spells of heat and humidity.
I agree JJ. It has been an amazing summer weatherwise
New England regional weather service just posted a pic by TK with credit on FB
They asked permission.
Well, can we see it?
Ok saw it. Nice.
I figured they did. That is sooo very cool
