2 Nice

2:42AM

A cold front moved through southern New England late Wednesday, responsible for a few showers and thunderstorms after a very warm to hot, somewhat humid day. Now high pressure will dominate with mild and drier air for 2 very nice late Summer days today and Friday.

The Labor Day Weekend will feature increasing warmth and humidity Saturday and Sunday, with Sunday featuring a risk of a few showers and storms, similar to Wednesday, as another front approaches. This front will bring a better chance of showers/storms for the Labor Day holiday itself on Monday, and may linger into Tuesday as it runs out of gas over the region. High pressure starts to rebuild on Wednesday next week but this time without the push of drier and cooler air as we will be in a more humid and warm pattern.

    1. Better question is, how many times has the 6z gfs gone bonkers, then for the 12z to come back down to reality πŸ˜‰

    2. Get in the storm cellar NOW!!!

      Into The Storm!

Btw, I was wrong last night. We did get a brief shower, just enough to wet
      the pavement before stopping. πŸ˜€

  1. Speaking of INTO THE STORM.

Has anyone seen that movie. I showed my wife the trailer and the acting was so bad,
she refused to see it. So my choice was to go by myself or wait until it becomes available
on Demand with my cable system. I chose the latter.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2106361/

      1. I STILL want to see it.
I guess I’ll pay $5 or $6 to Comcast, rather than
$22 to showcase cinema for both of us to see it. πŸ˜€

        I’ll say one thing.

Even though the movie Twister may have been a better
production, the tornadoes in Twister were so FAKE looking.

This movie has them looking far more real, even if over done.

  2. Thanks tk

Beautiful day!! Sun angle is now like early April so it’s lost a little bit of it’s strength from a few months ago. We have begun the 8 weeks of Fall/Aeration Overseedings, I have 168 scheduled. Looking like we are slightly above average going into next week. Average high is 80 degrees, average low is 56 degrees. Have a good day everyone πŸ™‚

  3. Thanks, TK.

I tend to shut down my computer early – I don’t know why. But anyway –

TK – hope you are feeling better.

Vicki – so glad Mac is doing good and the medications are doing good! πŸ™‚
However, so sorry about the loss of your dog. Will you get another one?

Last evening, we too got a lot of thunder; it got very dark; no rain; and nothing on the radar near to Sudbury. But a few hrs. later, we did get some rain and a little thunder.

    1. Thank you rainshine. I am not sure we will get another dog this time. We are at the point where we would like to just travel a bit more.

And it was odd that I heard tons of thunder last night and could see lightening everywhere but I saw nothing on the radar.

      1. Those storms snuck in UNDER THE RADAR!!!
Actually, they were too busy going POOF to show on radar. πŸ˜€

  4. re: Patriot’s Trade

REPORT: TOM BRADY β€˜VERY UPSET’ WITH LOGAN MANKINS TRADE
    08.27.14 at 4:45 pm ET
    By WEEI
In a video on BleacherReport.com, veteran NFL reporter Jason Cole said that the trade of Logan Mankins to the Buccaneers for Tim Wright and a draft pick was not well-received by Patriots players. In particular, he said, Tom Brady was β€œvery upset”€ with the move.

β€œTom Brady had a very emotional reaction to what happened yesterday. He was not happy with this move,” Cole said. β€œThere’€™s usually a very special bond that you have between offensive linemen and quarterbacks; quarterbacks depend on those guys so much. That relationship can get very rough at times, they’€™ll talk to each other in very harsh terms because everything is so on the line, they’€™re so nerve-wracked about it, but I will say Brady, initially, he was very upset with this trade. We’€™ll see how he reacts going forward; he usually finds his calm after a day or two.”

β€œΒ€ΒœOther players on the team were also a little bit concerned about what is the direction necessarily. I think there is some understanding that the team needed a tight end, but why would you necessarily give up a player of his caliber for a short-term fix at tight end?”

As has been reported, Cole said that the Patriots had asked Mankins to take a pay cut after the Pro Bowl in February. He also said that the savings from trading Mankins had nothing to do with trying to sign other players such as Darrelle Revis.

    1. That makes me so sick I wanna throw up. That last line really gets me, and as i said yesterday, that money isn’t being saved to go to another player to make the team better, its going in the owner’s pocket…”He also said that the savings from trading Mankins had nothing to do with trying to sign other players such as Darrelle Revis.”

    2. Brady needs to be much more than “very angry” with this, he needs to march into Kraft’s office and say he’s taken his last hometown discount if they aren’t going to put the team in the best position to win NOW. It’s his legacy and i gotta be honest, if he doesn’t win at least one more, it puts him in the level below the likes of Montana. He’s been constantly fed the company line about taking a cut for the better of the team and he’s been drinking the Pat’s cool-aid for far too long. Time to stand up to ur boss Tommy and fight for what u deserve.

        1. I wonder why Charlie won’t weigh in on this?????

Does he take care of Kraft’s lawn and grounds?????

          1. Mankins lived in Richard Seumours old house, I used to take care of it many years ago, Mankins wife is tough too lol she will tell anyone to go pound sand lol

  5. OS, I’m not in Big favor of the trade, but I certainly understand it. Mankins was a beast pre 2011, still an above average guard but certainly not pre 2011. 10.5M for a guard in today’s modern day NFL. The Krafts r committing to winning and obviously have shown that the last 20yrs. They are a top 5 team that spends the most money, they fluctuate between #2 to #5. History shows bill has balls and no one is sacred cows, intially I almost had a heart attack bc of my attachment to veterans but I won’t fully judge the trade bc if Write comes in here and catch 53 balls for 570yds like his rookie season then I say the trade worked, will see what happens,, go patriots!!

    1. Not bad Charlie, good thoughts there. I do agree with u on one thing, he was being paid way too much for his position. His play has slipped and i think at this point, they were paying for his veteran leadership more than his on field performance, which IMO was worth its weight in gold. With that said, even with is diminishing play, there is no one on the current roster better than him at that position.

    2. Thanks Charlie. A Much better assessment than I might have thought.

IF he’s making TOO MUCH money, then WHY did the Pat’s sign him
to the contract in the first place? WHY can’t the team HONOR
it’s own contract. With this team ownership, the contract isn’t worth the cost
of the paper on which it was printed.

I whine. I piss and moan. Fans ARE allowed to do that.

Guess what? I may tune in to watch Jimmy Garoppolo play tonight. πŸ˜€

        1. Agreed. They nickeled and dimed him for every bit of his rookie contract and didnt extend him when they had the chance (sounds like a Pats thing to do, right?). Then by the end of that contract, he had outplayed it by so much they were forced to overpay him. They did it to themselves.

  6. It’s a cut throat sport, I do feel for Mankins kids, the kids really were making a lot of friends and I would think Mankins wife will stay here with kids and see what happens with him at the end of year, and keep the kids here in school

  7. Bill is basically predicting Klines improvements r significant enough to do the trade, plus cap space etc, don’t worry they will be close to the cap

    1. We shall see about that.

2 things that will calm us down about this trade:

      1. Kline’s performance ends up being on a par with Mankins or better.
      2. The emergence of Tim Wright as a bonafide tight end on this team.

If this team ends up cutting Wright, as suggested would happen by Lou Merloni yesterday, then it is Mankins for a 4th round pick. That would be the most piss-poor trade on the PLANET!!!!

Btw, as an aside, I consider Lou Merloni to be the absolute BEST talk show host in this CITY. Just my humble opinion. Followed by Tony Massarotti and Scott Zolack.

  8. Anyways what a nice day, don’t want to stuff a weather blog with sports, gotta get back to work good day πŸ™‚

    1. Charlie, IF there was something going on with the weather, there
would be much weather talk. You know that. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

      1. We’re just about in that in between season with not much shaking in the weather department. Thunderstorm season is waning
rapidly. Other than a very occasional tropical threat, not
much happening until late November even December if that. πŸ˜€

  9. It is ironic that the first day of meteorological fall (Labor Day) will actually begin a more consistent HHH pattern…UGH! πŸ™

    1. I am hopeful that the cool, dry pleasant days will at least outnumber the HHH days during the month of September. It is just with HHH temps I can barely stand 1 or 2 days let alone several in a row.

      Hopefully no record highs either!

  10. If I had to choose a types of weather in order of favorites as we did seasons, my last would be HHH. However, the heat of this week IMHO doesn’t begin to compare to what would have been the same in July. I thought these past few days were really lovely and had to actually look at the thermometer to remind myself the temps were close to or at 90.

    1. I agree with you Vicki!. I was worried about my son having football practice in the heat but it has actually been quite comfortable by the time they start in the early evening. Now if only the mosquitos would stay away!

      1. Mosquitos? I’ve only seen a couple all season.
I Have NOT been bitten even one single time and that includes
several times fishing on the water’s edge. Mosquitos
        DON’T LIKE ME!!! πŸ˜€

        1. I haven’t seen a lot either and they usually like me. Since early April during the golf league nights i usually get bit up pretty good, but this year, never had to put on bug spray

          1. Weird, isn’t it?

They’ll find my wife, but not me (usually anyway.
It’s not that I don’t ever get bitten, but compared to other persons, I come away unscathed. :D)

Just have NOT been bitten this year.
Had to flick one off me once, but I was on guard
            and it didn’t have a chance to dig in. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

        2. Maybe there not as bad in the city. On most nights I need to come in and out really quick and no outside lights can be left on. Horrible down my way just bad!!!

          1. John, I agree about the CITY. Not usually bad
            in my neighborhood.

But I have been out and about fishing in some
really woody/swampy/wet areas outside of the City and still came away unscathed. πŸ˜€

        3. Mosquitoes have not been bad here this year. Of course now that I say that, they will come out in droves. They like me……so clearly they are not attracted to sweet things πŸ˜‰

          Poison ivy likes me also

      1. Shhhhhh

No, no, no, no, no and no again!!! Did I mention NO?

We shall have NONE of that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        πŸ˜€

      2. Not so sure John. Even though global temps are up (thank you southern hemisphere) there have been signs the northern hemisphere is on a cooling trend.

  11. I’ve decided that this guy Wright is doomed on this team. If Brady is as “angry” as reports indicate, he will always equate Wright with Mankins no longer being on the team. The first pass he throws to the kid that he misses, drops, or runs the wrong route, he will never have Brady’s respect or trust. We’ve seen it before. Brady has his favorites and he has zero patience for guys trying to learn, especially with the added element of this trade. This guys gets cut after the first few games. I hope I’m wrong

    1. I don’t know Ace. Brady is first and foremost for the team. His lack of patience drives the new members to get it right. I’ve seen other greats do the same thing and it has always worked out. If wright is let go, I would expect it is because he didn’t work out all on his own.

I am looking forward to seeing the game tonight. 10G. I will probably have to learn to spell his name eventually.

      1. 10G
What the bleep is that? Does that stand for Garoppolo?

OR does it mean you have 10 grand riding on the game? πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

        πŸ˜†

        1. of course it is garoppolo ….Vicki version. We call Brady 12. Ted 9…..I just added a G because he is new πŸ˜‰

            1. Get used to that name as it’s going to be around for a long long time!!!!!!

Unless I am totally wrong (and after tonight, perhaps I’ll change my mind), this
kid WILL be Tom’s replacement. πŸ˜€

          1. Do you also call Bobby 4?
Let’s see if you can get this one:
Billy 1? (this is a toughy)

            And these?
            Pete 3?
            Carl 8?
            Tony 25?
            Nomar 5?

            1. No despite Ted’s hopes for nomar he never made it to number. Billy Martin. Yaz and it was yaz I thought of when I said some greats are hard on others. I listened to Ted give him what for repeatedly one year…late 60s. I had the song 25 sang and had a crush on him. Awful way his career ended.

      2. Oh and I think I am with Vicki on this one.
I don’t think he’ll hold anything against Wright.
Hope not, but who knows for sure.

IF Wright gets cut, that means Mankins was traded for a
        4th round pick. POOOOOOOOOOOTHETIC!()@*()#&*(!@&#!

  12. Wouldn’t worry too much about HHH next week or beyond. I think we got a taste of what a muted form of HHH is like this week. It ain’t that bad, especially if you avoid the midday heat. And that midday heat will dwindle, especially after the first week to 10 days of September.

I was wrong to think we wouldn’t hit 90 this week, but my guess on the lack of true heat and humidity was more or less accurate.

  13. Cristobal would have given us a pretty decent blow had it come up.

Look at this projection for 72 hours from this morning’s update:

    72H 31/1200Z 61.1N 25.0W 60 KT 70 MPH…POST-TROP/EXTRATROP

Still maintaining 70 MPH winds at latitude 61.1 North!!

    Incredible!!!

  14. Eager to see if Jimmy G continues to develop, looking forward to watching him and a few corners, no starters tonight, it’s still football πŸ™‚

  15. Just to clarify, in case there is any confusion. I’ve been calling for a switch to a warmer pattern as we go from the final week of August into the first half of September.

There has not been a forecast for persistent heat and/or humidity, or specifically any heatwaves, although we cannot rule that out just yet (3 heatwaves in September in Boston makes that event pretty rare for sure).

However, we will have the tendency to see higher dewpoints than we saw for much of the month of August, along with the temperatures averaging above normal. This pattern shift was seen a couple weeks in advance and has indeed come to be the case. But we’re right at the beginning of it. A cooler/drier interruption such as today into Friday is not uncommon. Temps will be above normal Saturday through most of next week.

    1. The CPC certainly agrees with you TK showing above normal temps for much of the CONUS for the forseeable future. I am hoping that temps cool down radically the second half of September.

My guess is that I am NOT going to like next summer very much based on what you have been posting so far. πŸ™

  16. I like that there will be a warmer pattern in early September. It’s like a reminder that summer isn’t over yet once the month changes. Like a P.S. “I’m still here!”

  17. I’m loving watching garappolo. Like Brady he is so comfortable in his body. He sure seems to have so much promise

  18. Good morning!! Looking like a dry and nice Labor Day weekend, let the above average temps continue into Fall, I won’t mind, nice game last night, now it’s finally onto the regular season. Go Patriots!! Good day everyone πŸ™‚

    1. Interesting read yes, but way off the mark if u ask me. That article should be titled, “The states with the least and most strict alcohol laws.” Equating ease of alcohol access and public intoxication for best state and stricter laws to protect the public’s safety as worst state seems to be one of the many things wrong with this country.

      1. I showed this to a group of lawyers in Tennessee, there 1st reaction was they were suprised the state hasn’t come up with a law against farting, when do people accept the responsibility? I mean people have heart attacks everyday but we have McDonald’s open till 1am, I think mass should come up with a law against people eating past 10pm, why? Cause it can kill you, where do the rules stop? Good day ace and Vicki πŸ™‚

        1. Some health experts and law enforcement will argue alcohol is more harmful than some class A drugs like cocaine and heroin strictly due to its addictive nature. It is responsible for more deaths per year. So yes, while i agree some laws may be too strict, you can see why they are necessary. It’s sad but people have a difficult time accepting responsibility. That’s why there are laws. Charlie, u must not have had much experience with alcohol related issues in ur life or else u would have a very different stance on this subject. I understand what u are trying to say, that Massachusetts is too strict, but id rather live in a state with stricter laws than a state like Tennessee with higher crime rates and more alcohol related deaths.

          1. I’m not going to get into alcohol related addictions or drug addiction, we could talk all day, moving on πŸ™‚

          2. You are on a roll, Ace!! I agree yet again. Well said. The truth is that people cannot regulate themselves in too many instances and that is exactly why we need laws. Eating at McDonalds doesn’t affect me, Charlie. Someone driving drunk sure as heck could. I don’t see the comparison. Good day to you as well πŸ™‚

            1. Vicki that’s just 1, there are many to get into, all I will say are the rules are borderline embarrassing, I’m not saying to be free like Missiouri or Texas, but certainly not like we have it It will change, goodnight

              1. Your opinion which you are certainly welcome to. Embarrassing doesn’t enter into a discussion when people are sharing opinions. It implies one opinion is more valid than another. Enjoy your weekend, Charlie.

  19. Good morning,

My initial thoughts on the game and the Pats unswayed by any talk show banter.

Garappolo was OK. Not great and not terrible. He made some nice plays and some bad plays, BUT I still think he has IT and will be AOK.

O line blew chunks. Kline got beat several times and he’s supposed to be Mankins
    replacement???? Tom’s in trouble!!!!

D line sucked. They gave up way too many yards running. Ok I know mostly subs were playing.

New guy, Tim Wright, looked really good and he hasn’t a clue about the playbook
just yet. I don’t think he gets Cut. This guy can run routes and CATCH the ball.
    He’s a KEEPER!

    Thompkins looked good.
    Boyce, not so good.
Dobson showed some flashes. He “could” be good.

Concerned that the Gronk hasn’t seen ANY action yet. They still insist he plays
in the opening game in Miami. I’m guessing he does NOT play in Miami. πŸ˜€

    1. Good comments OS. I am also quite concerned about Gronk. My SIL thinks he will be fine. Like you, I am skeptical. Garappolo has several years to learn from the best and I think he show incredible potential. I truly enjoyed watching him.

      1. Vicki,

Thanks and I agree. Garappolo has a tremendous upside.
They didn’t use that top of the 2nd round pick for nothing.
They KNEW they had “something” there, else they
would not have used the pick.

And you are so right. He will learn from the BEST and only
improve and improve, unlike that Dunderhead, Mallett!!

        1. I have to disagree on Garapollo learning from Brady. It has been widely reported that Brady gives him the cold shoulder and is reluctant to teach him much of anything. Garapollo will need to learn by watching. Any mentoring from Brady will be limited. Its like if ur boss hired some new hot shot fresh out of college and everyone knows he will be ur replacement someday. Are u going to show him all the ins and outs of the job? Hell no, lol

          1. ACE,

IF Tom were say 28 or so I would agree with you. Given that TOM is 37 and approaching the end of the line, I disagree with you. There is no reason for him NOT to mentor him.

I had this situation at work and I was NOT
even close to retirement, being in my late 40s.
I had to teach and mentor the boss’s son to replace me. In this case, the cold shoulder was, indeed, in order.

Had I been 60+, then I would have happily mentored the bosses son.

Just my thoughts and we’re all entitled to our opinions. I do like it that we can disagree around here in a friendly manner. πŸ˜€

            1. I would tend to agree if I thought Brady was near the end, but he has expressed his desire to play into his 40s, he is by no means close to retirement in his book anyways. The team may have a different idea though

              1. Agree, like soon when they
ask Tom to renegotiate his contract again and Tom takes a hard line.

                SEE YA!

In fact, with 10G, that could very well be the motivation. πŸ˜€

          2. Good points, Ace. I tend to agree with OS but we will see how it plays out. When I said learn from Brady, I was actually thinking by exposure. Garappolo is part of everything. When young in the business world, I actually learned more by observing followed by drive than I did by mentoring.

    2. If he is a no go for Miami I would seriously get rid of him . I would be shocked if he plays the entire season because the guy is just injury prone and a very slow healer . It’s stinks because when he is in it really helps the team.

        1. I hate to see that happen ace but why pay a guy who is off the field more than on. I’m just wondering myself why has he not played when he got a clean bill of health not that long ago . I’m only saying this if he has another season like it’s been going. Hate to see him go but they need him on the field .

          1. I fully agree with u John, he has been off the field more than on during his career. IIRC, that mirrors his college career also. The Pats knew what they were getting when they drafted him. If not for the injuries he would have been a top 10 pick. This year and next are make it or break it years for him. If he cant stay on the field i see a trade or outright cut a very real possibility

    3. I agree about the O-line, Tom is in some trouble at least early in the season if they don’t come together as a unit and protect. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if this team had a slow start on offense. 10G played a good game but hes not ready for any regular season action. He needs at least a year and i think that’s why they keep Mallet too. I am very surprised Gronk didnt get any reps in pre-season. He needs to know he can take a hit in real game action and i fear his first hit might be his last, much like when he came back from the broken arm and broke it again.

        1. lol, i like it to, its so much easier than trying to spell it out, maybe it will catch on with others in the sports world and that will be his name πŸ™‚

    1. So is monday looking like a not so good day for outdoor activites? Or will it be one of those guessing games, dont cancel plans but be prepared to? lol

  20. From Mike’s weather page:

Tropics are still quiet in the short term with a couple areas being watched for future development down the road, one in the Caribbean and one off of Africa. The Caribbean area shows movement over the Yucatan and maybe some development in the Bay of Campeche. Most models show a Mexico threat but way too early to be certain.

ONLY the CMC shows development of the disturbed area moving across the Yucatan.

  21. My only thought I have on the game is 90% of the starters sat, 3 quarters of the players you saw last night on the field will be cut. Have a great day everyone!! Beautiful day!! πŸ™‚

  22. ACE,

    NWS re: Monday/Tuesday:

    MONDAY…
FRONT CROSSES THE REGION AS IT WASHES OUT…BUT MOISTURE LINGERS
ACROSS THE REGION ALONG WITH THE HIGH HUMIDITIES. KEPT CHANCE POPS
GOING DURING THE DAY INTO EVENING HOURS MAINLY DUE TO DIURNAL
HEATING. ALSO HAVE MENTIONED CHANCE FOR THUNDER ACROSS CENTRAL AND
SOUTHERN AREAS. EXPECT PRECIP TO WEAKEN MON NIGHT. WILL REMAIN
    WARM AND HUMID.

    TUESDAY…
ANOTHER COLD FRONT APPROACHES…SO WILL SEE ANOTHER ROUND OF SCT
SHOWERS/TSTMS. WARM AND HUMID CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE WITH HIGHS
AGAIN IN THE LOWER-MID 80S. THE FRONT SHOULD CLEAR THE COAST TUE
NIGHT…BUT WIND FLOW REMAINS FROM THE W WITH THE DRIER AIR
    REMAINING N OF THE REGION.

  23. Of course we know not to put too much stock in GFS.
Will see what the 12z model runs have to say about this thunderstorm POTENTIAL for Monday and Tuesday.

    1. The SREF doesn’t go out to Tuesday yet, but it appears that helicity abounds.
We shall see. Other than the day of the Revere tornado, I haven’t seen
anything in Boston. Sure there was one other day where Brighton got hammered, but I missed it totally. πŸ˜€

  24. SREF may be picking up one of those high shear low cape environments. Thankfully a few weeks ago when there was those high helicity values nothing materialized other than that storm that had a severe thunderstorm warning in northern worcester county. If the CAPE had been higher that day with the amount of shear in the atmosphere that COULD have been a pretty good size severe weather outbreak.

    1. Yup.

Watching the SREF closely as we get closer.

It looks like we could potentially have three (3) thunderstorm days:

      Sunday
      Monday
      Tuesday

With Tuesday perhaps having the best shot at more potent storms.

Again, we’ll have to watch and see.

Generally, these situations do NOT live up to the hype (read that models, including the GFS )

      1. Just try to enjoy the weekend all mets are saying warm and mostly rain free. Muggy Air will be felt for sure on Sunday as it comes close to 90

  25. Ahhh

The models don’t know which end is up from Sunday through next Saturday.

It’s going to be this….no….it’s going to be this….NO…wait a minute, it’s going to be this!

    DART TIME!

  26. went to the beach thursday and it was great. The sign up front said the water was only 60 degrees. PS it was not 60 degrees it felt more like 68 to 70, waves were big, used our boards some of the best waves i used my board with. πŸ™‚

  27. About Jimmy G. Ps he has better numbers than all these other rookie qb starters on these other teams but i better not see jimmy g on the patriots field come regular season and playoff time thats time for Brady. The O line was already struggling last year, Loosing mankins was a even larger blow. One thing to notice is that wright shows promise.

  28. HI ALL!!!
Crazy few days (not in a bad way). Lots to do. Now I get 2 days this weekend to mix some projects and lots of fun and it looks like the weather will cooperate. I am working on Monday September 1 (Labor Day) but that’s ok for getting paid time + 1/2 and gaining a bunch of PTO. So in a way, a celebration of “laboring”. πŸ˜‰

I’m updating the blog… Look for a post soon!

  29. ….And the blog is updated!

Have a great weekend everyone! I’ll be checking in and updating.
