Weekend Update

10:04AM

A double-barrel weak system comes through today and tonight with clouds and limited rainfall. The bulk of rain from the southern system will remain offshore though some is still possible this evening overΒ  RI and southeastern MA, especially Cape Cod / Islands. The northern part of the system will send a band or 2 of weakening showers/light rain eastward across the remainder of the region and not all that much rain will fall. The bulk of it will be between 6PM and 9PM, bulk being a relative term. Overnight it’s all departing. Sunday, a cool northwesterly flow takes over with plenty of sun and the feel of Fall (even though it’s still technically Summer). High pressure hangs on for Monday with more sun and a little bit of a warm-up. A weak and fast moving system will bring wet weather to the region the first half of Tuesday before it gets out of the way for another cool high pressure area Tuesday night and Wednesday. This high will park itself over the region during midweek then start to settle southward. This will begin a transition toward a warmer pattern again.

  1. I don’t know if anyone is headed to the Lexington area of 128 but a truck carrying liquid tar overturned this morning sadly killing the driver. The road is shut down both sides and it may take 24-48 hrs to clean up. I don’t know if that means it’ll be shut down that long and can’t imagine it does but just in case

  2. Thanks TK
    Thanks Vicki

Nice this morning. Not so sure about the rest of the day.

Did Anyone on this blog see the Northern lights last night? I looked and was
    SKUNKED. πŸ˜€

    On another note:

Very Sad times for the National Football League.

I could go a rant that would last all day, so I’ll stop right here.

        1. Oh wow . Big football player beating his 4 yr old, classy guy. Nope scumbag is the appropriate word here. The other guy hitting his wife will be reinstated because as usual the victim says you have it all wrong.

    1. We didn’t see anything either and I was up checking every few hours

And yes. Horrible time for nfl. The positive of Rice is so many women and men are speaking up about domestic abuse. There is no upside to peterson. It makes me sick.

      1. Apparently a lot of women (Ravens fans) proudly wore their Ray Rice jerseys for last weeks game. Now THAT sickens me

        1. I agree Ace. A good part of the problem is societies tendency to blame the victim. I’m seeing at least some beginning to understand that.

  3. past 2 years my first draft pick in my first fantasy draft of each season some how gets in trouble, next year im going to draft Peyton Manning to see what happens πŸ˜‰

  4. Good afternoon!! Heading to Patriot Place for lunch then college football tonight at a friends house in Brookline. Looking forward to the warm weather at the end of the month. Good day all πŸ™‚

    1. Some signals for some decent warmth, at least a couple periods of it, in about a week or so, and again end of month or early October.

  5. The Northern Lights were visible from Mount Washington and the observatory posted a great photo of it.

    1. My son is up there camping today….one day late :(. I think it was Hadi who shared a photo from far north Maine also.

      1. There were some nice ones taken. We’ll get our turn. One way we’ll have an incredible display like the one in March 1989.

  6. Offshore system is a fail so far.
System to the NW is weakening – rain area will shrink as it comes through eastern areas.

  7. Out on deck …. Its chilly, but red wine we are drinking is offering some warmth. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Clouds have thickened and are lowering. Radar makes me think rain is holding together better than I thought it would, unless radar is on sensitive mode.

  8. .17. We got less than the Charlie hole. I am not sure how to handle this…….a celebration, concern…..I need help here

  9. As expected, a weakening northern system delivered 0.25 inch or less to the region. Also, the timing worked out well.

A little more of a surprise was the degree of failure of the southern system. It just didn’t do much of anything. That was a benefit to a friend of mine that was getting married today on a beach on Cape Cod. The sun was out most of the time, and though it was a touch cool it was very pleasant there. They’d probably take the slight chill over a sweltering late Summer day.

Now it goes fairly quiet for the next week with only a weak system coming through Tuesday morning and still perhaps a little bit of a disturbance causing more clouds for a time on Thursday. Models have been a bit unsure what to do with that as we have some upper troughing but a rather large surface high nearby at that time.

  10. Good morning! My wife is running the half marathon at Suffolk downs, omg folks talk about an outdated building, why don’t they update this? Good grief wow! Anyways it’s Sunday and we all know what that means, it’s Patriot Sunday!!! What a game last night against USC πŸ™‚
