The Week Ahead

5:31PM

DISCUSSION…

The first weekend of Autumn was more like Summer than some of the weekends during the actual Summer, featuring 100% sunshine with high temperatures well into the 80s in many areas. The big ridge of high pressure responsible for this weather is weakening and sinking to the south and will allow a cold front to push through southeastern New England from north to south Monday, bringing some increase in clouds and a turn to cooler air. Then a more onshore flow will be dominant Tuesday through midweek with weak upper level low pressure overhead. This will result in clouds being dominant and temperatures on the cooler side, though not too chilly. By late week, a more southerly flow is expected ahead of an approaching trough from the west, so that by next weekend at least some wet weather is probable.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 50-55 inland valleys, 55-60 elsewhere. Light wind.

MONDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 75-80 by early afternoon then cooling later in the day. Wind light variable becoming NE 10-20 MPH from north to south midday and afternoon.

MONDAY NIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Patchy drizzle and fog overnight. Lows 55-60. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Patchy drizzle and fog. Highs 60-65. Wind E 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Low 50. High 65.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Low 53. High 67.

FRIDAY: Variably cloudy. Low 51. High 66.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. PM showers likely. Low 54. High 66.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny. AM showers possible. Low 50. High 65.

  1. Thanks TK. Beautiful weekend we had on the Maine shore. Was about 74 right on the water but felt warmer on the sun. Just a few miles inland temps were in the mid 80’s! We will be following the cold front down the coast tomorrow on our way home.

    1. I always loved the concept of following a front. πŸ™‚
      Glad you enjoyed the weekend!

I was looking at the web cam from Hampton Beach today and it was really making me wish I was up there, or in Maine, or a bit of time at both. But at least I did accomplish some important outdoor projects this weekend as well as having some fun out there so I’ll take that. πŸ™‚

Have a safe trip home tomorrow. πŸ™‚

  2. CPC’s “computer-generated” 6-10 & 8-14 say warm and wet. Let’s see if the humans agree tomorrow. πŸ˜‰

  3. Answer to today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

What is the highest temperature that Boston has hit in October?
    A. 93
    B. 90
    C. 85
    D. 82

    The answer is B.

    1. I got interrupted and didn’t quite see it all, plus I couldn’t have the sound
      on at work.

But the gist of what I heard was colder than normal and wetter than normal, which would translate to a SNOWY Winter. (based on analogs of 3 previous Winters)

OR did I totally miss it?

  4. There was an article in the local newspaper in my area the Waterbury Republican American last Friday and a professor at Western CT State University who teaches meteorology was saying expect a colder than normal winter with snowfall 10 to 12 percent above normal.

    1. My husband’s cousin who follows Chris Mass in Washington State said that is what he is predicting for our area too

  5. Just out: A report published this morning by the American Meteorological Society finds human-caused climate change increased severity of 2013 heat waves in Asia, Europe and Australia. NOAA scientists served as three of the four lead editors on the report. 6. I can’t say enough about Buca’s Tuscan Roadhouse. Had a fantastic meal there
Saturday evening. Weather was perfect!! Long drive for dinner, but got to see friends
we haven’t seen in awhile. Really nice.

Now for the Pat’s game tonight. GO PATS!

    1. With the running back along with Romo and Bryant, I think that offense is pretty good ! See if the defense holds up, but based on what they showed last night, they should finish better, maybe even much better than 8-8.

      1. I agree with you Tom the offense is not the issue. The defense was a big issue going into the season. I thought they
would be giving up close if not over 30 points every game this season. Two out of the first four games they allowed
less than 20 points. The question is can this continue the rest of the year. At the quarter point of the season more
wins than I thought at this point.

    2. It seems that when we “think” it is a tough game, that’s when the Pats DO
a number on its opponent. When we think it should be a piece of cake,
they either win ugly or LOSE.

      We shall see what happens.

        1. That being said, I have now jinxed the Pats for tonight so if they lose it is not because we are wrong but because of me πŸ™‚

          1. Who said: It is what it is?

Win, lose or Draw, it’s on the Pats. Not on you
            or I or anyone else. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

I do hope they win, but honestly, I would NOT be surprised at ANY outcome.

IF Brady can get some protection (what is that???), then he could have a BIG night.
IF not, well then anything could happen.

We shall see WHO shows up for this game.
It’s like in Forrest Gump, “You never know what you’re gonna get” πŸ˜€

  7. Interesting that Logan had warmest temps in all of New England yesterday at 87. NWS also tweeted out that we won’t see temps like that again until may or June next year.

  10. Gonna try and stay up for at least the first half tonight. Sunday and Monday night games are too late in the evening. My old ass is usually in bed by 9, lol.

    1. I agree with you. These prime time games end after 11:30 and you have to get up at 6 7 in the morning that is tough. I was up late watching the Cowboys game and feeling a little tired today but it was worth it seeing a victory over the Saints.

  11. I get up at 7 AM. I am staying up for the complete game and If it goes into overtime and ends at 2 AM, so be it. I’ll be short sleep for one night. Big Deal. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜†

  12. If the blocking ridge does indeed set up west of Greenland, what that will do is continue the mild temps along the East Coast and put the cool stuff in the western Great Lakes, Midwest, and eastern Plains.

This is along the lines of what I would expect to happen right now if we do block it up.

CPC’s human-made 8-14 day from today has above normal temps through the Northeast.
