Wetter Is Better

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND DISCUSSION…
A few days ago, it looked like “a few showers”. But in reality, for at least parts of southern New England, it evolved into a somewhat beneficial rain, all due to low pressure spinning offshore. It’s not a strong storm, but this interaction of upper level energy, surface low pressure, and moisture has delivered some wet weather, not nearly enough to break the minor to moderate drought but helpful to that end. What would be better is more regular rain events. We’ll have some of that, as the overall pattern is evolving to feature a significant trough of low pressure in the Midwest, putting the East Coast including New England on the east side of it, often in an upper level southwesterly flow, combining moisture from the south with disturbances from the west. One such system will cross the region this coming weekend, with another threat early next week. Right now, the former looks more significant and the latter a little less productive. Though some chilly shots of air will be diving out of Canada into the central US in this upcoming pattern, it’s not a particularly chilly pattern for New England, as cool air masses arriving behind departing low pressure systems are often modified by a long trip over a landmass holding leftover Summer warmth.

  1. TK, thanks for the update. Sunday looking good in your forecast which helps for some outdoor events I have planned. Meanwhile it’s just past 1:30 AM and still raining in Newton. Feels like we’re >1″ here.

    1. Certainly more substantial than anyone originally thought. We’ll take it. 🙂

Yes, after this low gets out of here, we go into a very progressive pattern with large scale trough axis Midwest. That’s a mild pattern for the East Coast, especially the Northeast.

CPC continues to solidify its 6-10 & 8-14 outlooks in the same mode of thinking we’ve had here for some time now: A mild temperature pattern, a wetter precipitation trend. It’s already ongoing.

  2. Let me know if the single-spacing between forecast periods is showing up for you.

I know, the color is October orange. Most of you will probably hate it, causing me to abandon the whole idea finally and just go back to a black background for all eternity. 😉

    1. FWIW, I love the colors, just the ones that don’t make my eyes burn while I’m trying the read the black text on the white background 🙂 Loved the dark green. This orange isn’t bad. Very pumpkin spicey 😀

  3. Thanks, TK. The single spacing is showing and I love the color. Very easy on the eyes and relaxing. But I will defer to those who want to open the page at work.

    1. Ahhem! Yea, hard to pass off this background color as something im working on for work, lol. With that said, i do like the color, very fall-like 🙂

      1. Color is OK. Like I said, doesn’t matter as long as the
        blog content is there. 😀

        Thanks TK for the update.

  4. Thanks for the update TK! I would normally complain about gloomy days like the past 3 days but its a nice change of pace and gives everything a nice gulp of water. I was surprised to see the rainfall amounts east of say I-95, but even more surprised at the sharp cutoff just west. We are still lacking that widespread event which hasn’t happened in a very long time. Everything has been so localized.

  5. I saw some comments on the previous blog on the Pats, Belichick, and even RGIII??? It seems there’s still a split between those fed up with his antics, particularly with his handling of the media and those who think this kind of behavior is ok and don’t think criticizing the team is what true fans should do. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I will just say this one thing about Belichick, there is NO excuse for his childish antics. This isn’t a new thing just bc they’re losing, he has been doing this his entire career and we have enabled this. This is not only disrespectful to the media and the league, but to the fans and those who love the game and this team. This isnt a criticism of the team, this is a humanity issue and treating people with respect. The media has a job to do too and he just throws the big middle finger at them like they’re second class citizens. It’s not right and quite frankly im surprised more people arent upset about it.

    1. I think your comments are spot on. I also don’t see that having a problem with management has anything to do with criticizing the team. The team basically does its best with what it is given and what the coaches tell them to do. The same person who drilled into me that boo’ing is not what a true fan does (my opinion and his only) also took full credit for the failure of the team he managed and admitted he and not the team or players deserved blame.

      1. I have to add that I am really upset with BB – I think as Hadi has said many times that he has done a horrible disservice to Brady and it is a lousy way for Brady to end his career.

    2. I honestly like the fact that he does what he does at news conferences, He does not give the dam media a story to write and critisize. Less news media crap= more concentration on the game and less chance of a player getting into thier head that they are a big shot.

  6. Just saw a report that Aaron Dobson hasn’t been playing bc he had an argument with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels 3 weeks ago…

The coaches are starting to lose the locker room. This may get worse before it gets better 🙁

      1. Looks like 1.38 inches, but that was from adding up a bunch of 6 hour totals, so I’m not sure if that is correct. Sounds about right.

  7. Back to the BG color – I think of all of them it is my favorite. I’ve probably said that about several others but there is something very relaxing and welcoming about this color I really like

    1. Cool. Thanks

I read about that happening a long time ago.

IS it due to Climate change? OR is it due to area farmers
sapping the ground water to the point that the lake/sea is
receding? OR a combination of both. Who knows for sure.

Either way, it is frightening. I think the same thing is happening
      to the Caspian Sea.

  8. I read some things from last blog and to be honest my thoughts are what they are. This has nothing to do with the Redskins (Matt). Redskins suck and I know that. It’s time to start realizing the Pats are going to start declining and this is not 2004.

    1. I think everyone understands that. All teams and all players and all people have highs, lows and middles. It is life :).

    2. You attacked the patriots i attacked the redskins. How about changing thier name.,,, do not start saying crap about the patriots and everything because of a bad streatch, Patriots made it to the afc champion ships 3 years in a row. Brady, has the 3 most wins of any qb, has the most playoff wins. bill and brady have the best winning percentage, most superbowl apperances of any coach and qb combo. Don’t start saying crap about the patriots unless your ready for others to unleash on your team.

      1. Easy matt you are showing your imaturity. I am not saying anything else that isn’t anyone else saying. Again you can bash the Redskins all you want.

        1. Spot on Hadi.

Anyone of has grown up in this area in the last 15 years has been lucky to see a very special time in Boston sports. We will probably not see that again for decades. Those of us who grew up in the 60s and 70s now what bad stretches are (except for the Celtics).

  9. The area of low level moisture is shrinking from 3 sides. Still a low overcast here in Woburn but soon all of this will start to melt away. The state of Maine and parts of eastern NH are mostly clear as dry air is working down from that direction. This sliver of dry air means some sun for tomorrow but clouds start to advance later and set up another push of low level moisture from the east overnight and Saturday morning with areas of fog and drizzle. Band of rain and embedded thunder from the west arrives late day. It may pour in western New England for several hours during the afternoon/evening.

Sunday looks bright, gusty and pleasant. Warmer Monday. The shower threat Tuesday probably fails and holds off until overnight or early Wednesday, then another push of cooler/dry air comes in. But the overall pattern remains warmer than normal and a little wetter than we’ve been. Don’t buy into the cold shots that will make it into the Plains but not here, as I explained in previous comments.

      1. Honestly, I wouldn’t blame him one Bit at this point.

With the CRAP the Patriots have thrown at him, he SHOULD want
to leave. Mankins being the last straw!

          1. Great QB’s who have played for other clubs at the tail of the end career:
            Montana
            Favre
            Manning
            Stabler
            to name a few

  10. TK – I have no problem whatsover with the background color. Choose whatever you like AFAIC. The only issue I had was when you departed from WordPress briefly a few weeks ago. I had problems scrolling and reading comments but from I can tell, no one else here did. 🙂

Also, since it appears that there will be a number of wet days ahead of us for much of this month (as you have been forecasting), will the water table hold up through the upcoming winter assuming we go dry again for awhile?

    1. It was still WordPress, just different versions. The one I am running is 4 years old. The others were more recent.

I do not believe the water table will be holding up near normal through the winter. I think it drops in a dry pattern and we could potentially be in serious trouble next growing season.

  11. I really enjoyed watching the upper level low come overhead the last 24 hrs. Particularly watching the radar and seeing the long duration, slow pivoting of the precip shield over eastern and southeastern New England. Definitely winterlike.

  12. Thanks tk 🙂 Patsfan4Life I will not discuss sports on the weather blog, it just causes problems, and there all just opinions anyways. It may be close to or even the end of an era, but what a great era it has been!! No team, I repeat no team has won more or been to more superbowls than the Patriots in the last 20 years, no team has been to more playoff games in the last 20 yrs, no team has more playoff wins in the last 20yrs. A blink from being 19-0 16-0 regular season. People can say whatever they want, but that era belongs to the New England Patriots 🙂 they will be back 🙂

Looks seasonably mild for the upcoming week 🙂

    1. Or it may not be the end of anything. Could be a hiccup. Could be time for a new team to take center stage. No matter what, I’d say Dallas and Pittsburgh (ugh) the Pats and Even Denver can stand very proud. No one can take their accomplishments away. And many would like just a taste of the thrill they give their fans.

    2. The Pats have a huge legacy, but one of the Pats greatest accomplishments is one that not many are aware of … there is no NFL team that has a winning record against the Pats in the current century.
